DAY 283 | FOURTH WALL | ACTION;
[ zuko's been here for over an hour and he hasn't seen one familiar face – or landmark. what started out as fading back into the crowds that flanked either side of the street in the busiest section of ember island's shopping district after spotting a cluster of soldiers had quickly turned into something else entirely. the people were different, the stores were different, and he was surrounded by water, like he was standing at the bottom of a lake, encased in the relative safety of a waterbender's air bubble.

it was near the library that the treasonous prince finally removed the hood of his cloak, realizing that it didn't matter whether someone saw the scar on his face or not, because scar or no scar, nobody was going to recognize him. wherever he was, it wasn't anywhere near ember island or the fire nation, and he had no idea how he even got here. that bothered him more than anything else. ]

Excuse me. [ he stepped out in front of the next lucky person to pass by the sidewalk leading up to the library's steps. ] What city is this?

[ what other explanation was there? that swig of fire whiskey he took earlier was tainted, left untouched in a back corner of the beach house for far too long. it was messing with his mind. he was probably wandering around aimlessly on the beach talking to trees and sandcrabs his contaminated mind thought were people.

but he stopped, against his better judgement, and turned back to face her. ]

I'm seventeen. I've never been older than that. I don't have grandchildren. Aang and Katara — they're still kids themselves. They don't have any of their own. I don't know where you're getting all this from.
