( day 268 ) closed voice to martha jones.
[ it's hard to get up; it's such a consistent feeling to elena that by now it's no news. every day is like this: she opens her eyes, remembers what and who and where she is, and gets out of bed.

this morning is different. she can sense it the moment after her eyes open, after she stares at the ceiling for those few blinks to ready herself. she doesn't think too much of it, simply pulls in a breath and mentally shakes herself, pulls the covers off and moves to sit. that's when she sees her hand - not her hand.

her breath shallows and panic overcomes her. when she gathers herself to do the logical thing - to run to the bathroom mirror and look into it - she finally recognizes the face staring back at her.

but she's in her room, wearing the same clothes. her unfamiliar hands touch and grasp the belly of her shirt. (this isn't her body.) anger and upset fills her. this has to be some kind of new joke or mishap - that's when she rushes to her bedside to pick up her communicator and listen to the morning announcement.

of course.

then she contacts martha, startling only slightly at the sound of her - martha's voice - connecting the line. she nearly chooses video, but starts off with voice instead. she doesn't want to startle the other woman if she is just waking up. ]

Martha? It's - it's Elena. I think, uhm. The wardens are conducting another experiment. I'm in your body.

	[Martha can get that. Being there for her family. She'd done a lot for her family.] It just seems dangerous, being this needy on blood and trying to be there for your brother at the same time. I feel like a time bomb... I wouldn't want to be anywhere near my family and friends like this. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

I wasn't. Or, apparently I wasn't, for awhile. I don't remember that part, but some of my friends who've been here have remembered. [ but those aren't her experiences. they're not who she is, not here. elena pauses, licks her lips. ] It's been... hard. [ of course it has. living with bonnie, losing caroline, almost attacking sam... but hearing that won't necessarily help martha. saying it doesn't necessarily help herself, either. ] But it's not unmanageable.

[ elena shifts slightly on her feet. well, martha's. ] I have to ask. Is there anything I should know? [ she's been here long enough to know people keep secrets. long enough to keep a few of her own. she doesn't know much about martha, and knowing something could be important. ]

[Martha feels like there's nothing else she can say. Elena's given her the blood bags, told her what to expect. It's not for her to judge the other woman.

She does shift a little at Elena's question.]

Not really. People may ask you for medical advice. Don't answer them. Jack will try and flirt with you provided he's Jack. It doesn't mean much other than a good flirt.

[She stops before mentioning Sam. Aside from the fact that the whole relationship is confusing to her, the fact that Elena is his ex makes it more awkward.]

Okay. [ it's said softly. she doesn't really know who jack is, but she'll keep it in mind. she thinks of sam, passingly, when martha seems to be listing who she flirts with - flashes back to that day at the library, where sam usually sits, a dog bone and a coffee set out for him.

but she doesn't ask. despite the wave of jealousy she feels, it's not her place, or her right.

there is one more thing martha should know: ] If someone named Damon bothers you... Bothering people is kind of what he does. You can send him my way.
