Day 262 | Video; | Action;
[Julian groaned as he woke up--he felt like he'd slept for hours, but he was lying on something much harder than even the station's Cardassian beds, and it made his neck and shoulders ache terribly. He stretched his neck, then opened his eyes--and was immediately on high alert when the unmistakable fact that he was somewhere that was most definitely not Deep Space 9--not even the holosuite--hit him.

And then the device over his ear and half his face began to play its welcoming message, and he was immediately even more incredulous and angry. To be accused of such crimes and sentenced without due trial--when he'd just avoided being unceremoniously bounced out of Starfleet...

Julian had just escaped a prison that he'd been abducted to in the quiet of night, and now here he was again--without even the dignity of his uniform, instead a bright orange thing that even his fashion sense was affronted by.

There were other people here, he could see them going about their lives, hear their voices over the communicator looped over his ear. Well, time to get the introductions over with.]

Normally, I'd expect to be at least given the basic right of due process and trial by a jury of peers--in which I am proven guilty of whatever crimes I am accused of--before being thrown into a prison indefinitely.

[Not to mention he's fairly sure whoever and whatever power is holding him here doesn't have jurisdiction over him.]

I am Lieutenant Julian Bashir, Chief Medical Officer of Deep Space 9. I'd appreciate any further information anyone can give--and if there are any Starfleet officers present, I would appreciate hearing from you.

[Easy for you to say, you don't have to deal with Temporal Investigations afterwards.

Though he wasn't even on DS9 five years ago--he was just graduating from Starfleet Medical.]

Well, I suppose that confirms that we get to deal with the headache that is timeline differences...

[ no, but she has dealt with what that department will become, and the crew of the timeship relativity had a greater understanding of time than their contemporary counterparts. ]

It is the same timeline, Lieutenant, merely a variation on selected points within that timeline.

Yes, but after seeing first-hand what can happen when the timeline gets altered, I'd rather not take the chance.

[He and Captain Sisko did kind of alter the timeline enough that the Federation stopped existing at one point. It was an accident, but still.]

I assure you, I have plenty of experience with matters of time, both personal and not.

[ like that time the borg thought it would be a hoot to go back in time and stop first contact... ]

I wouldn't assume that you didn't. It seems to be fairly common, after all. Common enough to be worrisome, at least.

[Yeah that didn't work out well for y'all.]

At least to me. But I've not had the best of luck with either temporal or dimensional displacement.

Common enough that Starfleet has an entire department dedicated to the investigation of these instances of temporal displacement.

[ yes, but as people from the 29th century who specialize in matters of time have confirmed, the federation likely wouldn't exist if not for the borg's attempt at unraveling the past. gotta love causality loops. ]

If you are concerned about having to speak with them regarding this matter when and if you're free of the facility, it is highly unlikely that you will retain any memories of your experiences here.

Yes, I've had to deal with them before. On multiple occasions.

[And then they accidentally went breaking it so the Federation didn't exist. Almost did the Borg's work for them, there.]

I'm not quite sure I like the idea of that, either. Messing about with the mind is a very delicate thing.

[Especially when the mind involved is far more complicated than it seems to be.]

I am sorry that I am unable to provide you with a more comforting alternative, Lieutenant.
