day 254 - video; 001
[ When Riker appears at last he's circled back round to Sector 2, framed against the hedge maze. There's no distractions, and his introduction is absent of distractions too. At least at first. ]

Good evening. I hope it's not too late in the day to introduce myself, but I didn't wish for anyone to be surprised to spot me around the place. My name is William Riker, and I just arrived with the latest group of people. It's nice to meet all of you, if unfortunate considering the circumstances. I appreciate the kindness that has been shown to me since my arrival.

I understand some-- [ And suddenly Riker stops, looking up. It's started to rain, and he wipes a single raindrop off his nose. ] I'd better wrap this up. I'd like to speak to some friends of mine, whom I'm reliably informed have been here for a while. Maybe after I get in out of the rain, if that's perfectly alright.

Deanna, I hope you're in somewhere dry.

Captain. It's good to see you.

[ He looks visibly relieved. And about those directions. ]

I arranged to meet Deanna here. If there's no urgency, I'd prefer to stay put until the weather clears. [ He has urgent things to discuss with Picard himself, but his concern for her comes first. ]

[ That relief is a familiar thing to Jean-Luc. Riker has always worried over his well being, as he should. ]

Yes, of course. At your leisure. [ He goes ahead and sends directions to the apartment anyway. Always good to be prepared. ] It is... good to see you as well.

[ It's been his top priority for years. Now it's...well, it's his secondary priority, or at least it would have been until they made it back to dry dock.

He corrects:
] At the very first opportunity.

If you mind me asking, Captain, how long have you been here?

[ He pauses to consider that for a moment. He had arrived on day 184. ]

Seventy days now, exactly. [ He pauses, realizing that timelines played into this. And that it was possible that Will had only seen him moments ago. ] You must realize that in this... pocket dimension, people come from every timeline and world and reality. What is the last thing you remember?

Deanna and I are from the same moment, I believe. [ He pauses. ] Actually I didn't ask her as such, we simply had no reason to believe otherwise. And there are certain promises...

[ He takes a breath, looks back at the screen and tries to simply convey by a glance alone what moment they're from. And since that isn't really clear enough, isn't a good enough report, he continues: ]

There are more things than blood that go into making you Jean-Luc Picard. [ It's subtle enough. If he doesn't understand, he'll say so, and the matter will be settled either way. ]

[ Jean-Luc visibly bristles at the alluding to Shinzon, something that had followed him in both his nightmares and his waking thoughts as well since he'd been forced to kill him. It had been like looking into his own eyes and killing himself... and then of course Data, rescuing him and giving his own life in return. ]

Data is not from that time. [ He opts to focus on something not so personal in response. Besides, his First Officer needs to be briefed on this issue post haste. ] And I've opted to keep his fate from him in light of both the prime directive and to prevent any space-time anomalies or crossing timelines.

Of course, Captain.

[ Although, he reflects, if any of them were to take the news of impending death well, Data would be that individual. An anecdote about buried heads came to mind. Orders, though--orders he could square himself with. ]

Are we proceeding under pre-First Contact conditions as to the rest of the inmates?

[ i.e. How subterfuge? He might have already bent that one; though he hadn't referred to Starfleet, or made any other specifics, he had absorbed the fact that others were open with their spacefaring origins and reflected it in his own introductions. ]
