DAY 254 ✯ OPEN VIDEO.
[ you. what are you doing here? ]

Hiding, like you. [ except— wait. no. this isn't right. this was familiar, almost tangible as if it were a collection of memory engrams locked away behind a series of unbreakable, undetectable algorithms that had begun to break free of their restraints. she knew this place, but it wasn't right. this— was not right at all. she didn't belong here. it wasn't her fault. that which she stood accused of wasn't her fault. an individual should not have to answer for the collective's wrongdoings.

she went away, like some do — she understood that much. or maybe she was still on the equinox. perhaps she was hallucinating. firm, unwavering in her stance, she'd been willing to perish instead of becoming what ransom and his crew had become. she wanted no part in any of it. she resisted. but he was trying to force her hand, made the doctor—

standing up, only dimly aware of the headset, of the feed, seven draws her hand across her temple and the metallic, ocular implant that's a stark contrast against pale skin and loose, bright blonde hair. she's intact, and an awkward, uncharacteristic clearing of her throat tells her that her auditory processor is operating under normal parameters. her voice is her own, controlled by her own will and not that of a hologram devoid of ethical subroutines.

only then, when she's certain that speaking will produce words and not song, does she address the dome directly. ]

My designation is Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01. I will not comply.

[ She needs to regenerate? That was unusual, wasn't it? Or had Starfleet's interactions with the Borg made some difference to their assimilation procedures? Riker would have to ask about it, but for the time being it seemed like their priorities lay in different places. His own was recon, and hers was survival.

The mention of Data draws him up short. They know each other? Of course they do - Collective knowledge - but what was it that made her think that Data would have the answers she needed? Then again she knew Picard. So maybe she had come to know Data, too?
]

Do you and Data know each other?

[ Worth asking. ]

[ yes and no, but mostly seven's just been borg for far too long to function without her borg systems. the doctor tried to remove them all, but there comes a point when someone who has been a drone for nearly two decades, who was assimilated as a small child, cannot be fully liberated. seven's skeleton in and of itself would be a horrifying sight, were someone to boil all the flesh and blood away from it. her brain would resemble a hard drive more than it would anything remotely biological. growing up borg has had devastating consequences on her body. picard was lucky.

seven nods, willing herself not to respond to the rush of images that flood her mind. she tucks an errant strand of blond hair behind one ear, revealing an additional, spider-like implant resting just below the lobe. ]

If these memories are to be trusted, then he and I were acquainted last I was present in this structure. [ more than just acquainted, but that's... not something to be addressed right now. and not by her. should they resume their relationship, it is data's right to inform his friends, his colleagues. ]

[ It's probably best that Riker doesn't hear it from her, but then he might not believe it no matter whom he hears it from, not because of Seven--in fact, his hang ups would be disbelief in regard to Data. None of his romantic exploits had exactly...worked out. Though he had no doubt that over the years the android had learned from each and every one of them.

He inclines his head.
]

Then I wish you luck finding him. And if there's anything that I can do for you, please don't hesitate to call me. We all owe A--Captain Janeway a great deal. I'm sure she'd prefer to hear that the members of her crew were all treated with as much consideration as our own.

[ What he's trying to say is that he won't let his own prejudices get in the way. Or at least: he'll be trying not to. ]

[ a— don't think seven didn't catch that. she did, far more attentive to detail than she's given credit for (which is a remarkable feat, given her nature and former state of being). she could guess at that, poke and prod, but her experiences working with the crew of the relativity have instilled a sense of respect for the linear flow of time that she previously didn't possess, having been borg and understanding time travel and the tweaking of history in the way in which the collective saw it. some things aren't meant to be given more than a passing glances, for there are some things she isn't yet meant to know. ]

Yes, she would. And if there is anything that I can assist with, Commander, I would be... happy to help.

[ don't let the fact that she's borg detour you from the powerful, resourceful asset an ex-drone is. all that assimilated knowledge, the skills she possesses that are beyond the federation's reaches — comes in handy more often than not. ]

[ Admiral. It wasn't a particularly difficult guess, but if she chose to know it and go without confirming it then that suited him too. Riker was still shaken from his appearance here or else the slip wouldn't have happened at all, and if not for his confidence when speaking, if not for the fact that he was speaking with an ex-Borg drone, the 'A' would have sounded more like 'Ah', a humming hesitation. It wasn't. Riker didn't falter--not like that, at least.

He nods. He will speak with her again. It's already back on his to-do list. She intrigues him more than she frightens him.
]

I'll check in with you soon.
