So, barring further unfortunate invasions of prehistoric beasts or other disasters, I’m happy to announce I’ll be starting an art class tomorrow. Short notice, I know, but don’t worry if you can’t clear your schedule; latecomers will be more than welcome. This isn’t going to be too formal, anyway. Days ending in fours and eights, starting at nine in the morning sharp... but I’ll keep the studio open through the afternoon, unless someone kicks us out. Classroom five. All skill levels and media are welcome-- I’ll set up a still life or something, unless any adventurous souls want to talk about modeling.

Questions, comments? I’m not going to do sign-ups-- just show up if you’re interested, and bring along some appropriate supplies. Paints, clay, anything you like. At the very least a pencil and pad will get you a long way.

|[ooc; official course info here. Will post a mingle-type thing for it next week <3]|

[ And he gets a tiny smirk back. ]

To reiterate, can't always rely on the uniforms.

I promise I won't tell Deb you said that.

[ There's a short snort of a laugh. ]

She'd probably say the same - well. "Fucking" uniforms, probably.

Though it's less derision than it is a personal preference for being prepared.

No, I get it. It's not a bad idea, knowing how to take care of yourself.

[There's a casualness to it, a way of agreeing without exactly agreeing. Normal people study self-defense too. It's a fine line, treading between I'm just like you and I'm just like everyone else.]

Write enough blood spatter reports and it seems like a good idea for anyone.

[ Certainly it's normal - easier to explain than most, but there's still something about the way Rudy approached it that Dexter can't quite let go of. Maybe the faintest hint of something familiar? But he was too detached then to have as much insight as he's generally accustomed to. In truth, the raptors were the least of it. ]

I almost prefer rampaging dinosaurs to paperwork. Almost.

[Another small, wry twitch of his lip. And then, as if he's just thought of it-- as if it hasn't been sitting in the back of his mind since then--]

Which reminds me, are you holding up okay? You seemed pretty shaken up when I found you.

[Muttering about blood and all that. Which one of you is the weird one, again?]

Yeah. Fine.

[ The answer is too fast and he knows it, so he lets himself pause, giving a small shrug. ]

I just had a run-in with it. Vapor - that's what it was called, apparently.

Huh.

[Decades apart, but he can tell when you're lying, little bro.]

What was it like?

[Idle curiosity. Perfectly normal.]

[ That's seriously a problem with this guy. ]

It was like those patches - the irrational fear? It was more potent, and paired with hallucinations.

[ Hallucinations, but based on what? That boy in the blood... I wasn't hoping to see him again. ]

Hmn.

[He mulls over that, quite serious, for a moment.]

You were going on about blood. Must've been pretty intense, to spook you.

[You know, because, the day job. Also the not-so-day job.]

[ He draws in a deliberate, slow breath. ]

Hard to tell how much of it was the blood and how much of it was the effect...

[ He shakes his head. ]

It was a lot of blood, but blood has never done that to me.

[ Nothing's done that to me. What scares the monsters? ]

I can imagine, otherwise you'd probably find a different job.

[The tone says joke, but he doesn't smile.]

Where'd all the blood come from?

Nowhere, apparently. It just... seeped out of the ground, the walls.

[ He leaves out the bit about how he became enclosed in the area. ]

[Brian could guess. Even without his personal hunch, he knows Dexter's bright enough to run when he's outmatched, and sharp enough to take care of the problem when he's not.]

You must've been swimming in it, almost, from the look of things.

[Inches deep and not alone.]

Almost.

[ He nods, but it's said flatly; calculatedly flat, with effort that wouldn't be noticed - by most. ]

[By most, indeed.]

It's okay to be freaked out by that, you know.

[It's what someone might say to someone trying too hard to be stoic, but it's doubly true between the two of them. Knowing what he knows.]
