[ Charlotte is looking slightly worse for wear this fine day, part of her head covered in a bandage and eyes lacking the luster of a good nights sleep. She's contemplative, idly picking at the remnants of a pie on her plate (pear and gruyere, what else?). ]

You know, I was thinking... this is the first time I live on my own. I went from living with my dad to living with my aunts and then Ned. I've never really been on my own like this before... and that was fine, until yesterday. Not that yesterday was as bad as it could've been of course, but it still brings you pause.

How many of us live alone here? It seems like it'd be nice to have a roommate, someone who'll notice if you get eaten by a dinosaur or disappear or... you know. Lots of stuff could happen.

I bet you are. How far into the future, if you don't mind me asking?

Oh, I don't mind at all. The year was tweny-three seventy-nine when I arrived here.

[ Low whistle. ] That is... a few years after me! I bet we all seem really primitive then, huh?

Oh hardly. I find it fascinating really, an interactive history lesson, if you will. A reminder of how far we've come and how far we've yet to go. Endless possibilities.

That's a really nice way to think about it, I think. A lot of people wouldn't see it that way.

We can all learn from each other. I will attempt to be a student of the universe until I simply cannot anymore.

I think that's the most beautiful thing I've heard today. I wish I would've thought of that when I was still living at home... it sure felt like I was a student of the universe, reading all those books.

An avid reader, are you? Have you a preference in genre?

Oh, I read just about anything. Mostly about other people's adventures, even though it's not nearly as exciting as having some of your own.

Oh I quite agree. Reading about them is to dream about them. Experiencing them is to live. And a world of difference exists between the two.

Truth of the day. Of course, sometimes you don't have much of a choice but to live vicariously through someone else. [ Through books and then through Olive, Emerson, Digby... anyone she could use as a hug-by-proxy. ]
