[Day 249] Video - Open
Welcome, new arrivals, and hello to everyone. I wanted to take just a moment to tell or remind everyone about our school. Education is so important to everyone whether you've finished the curriculum of your world or not. We have many wonderful teachers with a wide variety of classes at different levels. Students and new faculty and administration are always much appreciated and welcome.

I was hoping maybe some of you would consider taking on a class. Hopefully, you've seen our course catalog in your welcome basket to see what we offer. Some of you won't get them until tomorrow* of course, but there is still so much we could teach.

We don't have any language classes. We used to offer English and Japanese. It would be wonderful to add those or any others again. We need more sciences, math, art, crafts, agriculture, sewing, dance, philosophy, physical fitness or self defense and of course any special interest classes you might think of.

I was also thinking we might have a school fair at some point once it can be organized. That way everyone could learn more about the classes and get to know each other better. If anyone would like to help with that or to take on any new classes, please let me know!

(OOC: *Welcome baskets won't arrive until Day 251 due to the Fear Itself Event. Please use the link above to add any new class you'd like to start!)

Has anyone ever offered an art class?

We actually did have one for a time, but that teacher has left. Are you interested in the position?

I studied art, for a while, though I've never taught anything. Maybe. I mean, we all need to keep busy, right?

My brother was an artist. [Among other things.] What sort of art do you do?

[Well, if we're going to get into other things...]

Oh, you know, a little of anything. What I do professionally incorporates a certain amount of sculpture, and now and then I do a bit on my own. I'm more a charcoal and pencils kind of guy than paints, but I'm flexible.

My brother was a painter, but he was also a very skilled fashion designer. I wore one of his bathing suits once. [And it was tiny. Nothing weird about that.]

But it sounds like you'll have a lot of versatility for teaching here which is always a good thing.

[Brian is hardly one to criticize weird sibling relationships. But he might. That is pretty weird.]

I guess I could be convinced. More of a guided workshop thing, I'm thinking, than a real class. The most important thing in any medium is really having time in the studio, and the freedom to experiment.

[It gets weirder if you want to branch out into other siblings.] Yes, of course. If you think that's the best way to approach the class then I support it. [She doesn't know too much about being a teacher. No more so than one might learn from having been a student really and the prison environment requires some...flexibility even then.]

I know there are plenty of art materials available at least. I believe the wardens encourage it.

Well, I think it's about all I could manage. Like I say, I've never taught a thing.

[And he doesn't really want to, exactly, but it would be a way to kill time, an excuse to do something with his hands. Not what he really wants to do with his hands. But better than nothing.]

Is there a schedule, a space? Are you the one who sets this stuff up?

Yes. I can send you a class schedule in the mail tomorrow, so you can see when you might be able to host it. Any available time is fine, and I can help you if you want more direction than that.

[A little nod.]

I do. In the past we've had other headmasters and administration, but currently my brother and I are taking it all on. [It's often been just her even if she doesn't give herself that much credit.]

(OOC: Assume it came on Day 251, after the fear event.)

Great. Gimme a couple of days to figure things out, but, it sounds like a plan.

So, do you have any interest in attending?

(ooc; thanks! i may do 4s and 8s I think, assuming I can get it sorted before 254~)

An art class? [She pauses to really consider and then nods.] I think I would. I don't have Clovis' talent, but it might be a nice change from the other classes I take. [Not to mention the busy schedule she heaps upon herself in a place where there is no need for one.]

(OOC: Awesome. Just fill out one of these when you get a chance and I'll add it. Please not that at this time I haven't removed Literature from the schedule or added Earth Language Studies (which will be 6pm on days 2,4,&6) yet.)

Don't put yourself down. Besides, people overestimate the role of inherent talent in art. Technique is as much practice as anything.

[And inspiration, he knows, can come from a great many sources.]

You're better organized than our captors are, I think.

[She smiles at that.] I had some experience helping to organize before coming here. [Though not as much as many of her brothers and sisters. She was always somewhat sheltered. Still, she has a lot of drive.]

I think our captors just have different priorities.

Yeah? What'd you do?

[He's, honestly, not so curious as he sounds, but it pays to make an effort. Besides, Euphie is obviously a useful person to know.]

Have you heard of a place called Japan? [This is a completely legit question in a multidimensional prison! Besides, you probably don't know what Britannia is.]

Okay, fair enough. This has to be a smaller job than that.

[His tone is simply gentle and jesting.]

That's a little different from calling out the cavalry.
