Day 248 - Action - Open to all
[Clinic]

Helen hadn't been around lately, so Martha had a valid excuse to avoid the clinic. And she'd been avoiding Sam, but Helen was her main excuse. Of course, she was concerned for the other woman, but she figured Helen would seek her out if she needed help. After doing a quick inventory of the place and making sure everything looked good, Martha sat behind the desk and opened her book on pathology while waiting for any patients to come in.]

[Coffee shop]

[She hadn't been planning to stop by, but the tea in the clinic was boring her and she wanted something before going to the library. The line was longer than usual, but she made it to the front soon enough. A few conversations on her way out and then she was on her way.]

[Library]

[Pathology was definitely a fascinating topic. Martha spent quite a few minutes browsing through the section before grabbing a pile of books and making her way to a table to start evaluating which ones she should take out and which could stay. She could be found with books piled around her, an open notebook, and a forgotten cup of tea.]

[OOC: Feel free to run into her wherever.]

Better is good.

[Martha takes a sip of her tea, but keeps her gaze on Helen.]

What's been going on that you're better from?

Oh, a little of this and that. [ some things that she isn't comfortable saying, since they involve a story that isn't hers to tell. ]

Yesterday was certainly the proverbial icing on the cake and I hope you weren't caught too badly with that mess. [ the pictures were not appreciated in her mind. ]

I had a few up there. Took down what I could find. Kept one copy of each for personal reasons and burnt the rest.

[Seeing Tom die had been bad. The rest were just pictures. They looked worse than they were.]

I don't see how they think any of this is going to help our "rehabilitation."

[ she doesn't appreciate being reminded of her deceased daughter, especially so close to said daughter's birthday, a day she'll likely either spend buried in her work at the clinic or with jean-luc in an attempt to blot out the memories and guilt that will be clawing its way out of her. she hasn't yet decided which option she'll go with. ]

I suspect it all has nothing to do with our rehabilitation, and they are instead pushing buttons.

[Martha takes another sip of tea.] It's not unheard of to experiment on prisoners.

Which makes it all the more distasteful that we're here at all.

[ helen just casually makes a face over the rim of her cup as she takes her own sip. this place has its advantages and disadvantages to be sure, but she will never like the wardens. ]

It's maddening how they think they can simply do things to us without expecting us to retaliate in some way. I've never seen a situation like this end well and I've seen a great many things.

The problem is, I don't see a way for us to react against them. Which means most of our anger would turn on each other.

Which we cannot allow to happen. No, I believe there's a way out of this. We simply haven't found it yet.

[ whether that's said out of determination or sheer naivety remains to be seen. ]

I'm sure we will. It's what the Defense Force is working on. And I spend plenty of time in the library.
