[ He's sure of it now. Not that it matters — not that he cares — but the Dome does seem particularly Scoobie free. Buffy's gone and she took the lit'le bit and that mangy mutt with her. Sam's been missing even longer and with that he's plum out of moral influence. It's a relief in a way. It allows him to not think so hard about that sad flicker of a soul he's got somewhere out there in the world. It's freedom but just as much abandonment. Angel's come and gone and now the last sliver of familiarity disappeared. The last man standing from Sunnydale and he has to wonder... did they find a way home?

Did he get left behind?

It's not something to dwell on in any case. Not when there's hunting to be done and without a Slayer in the dome, who's to stop him? Eric, the great big hypocrite? The Wardens? He'd love to see them try. But first... a few stiff drinks at the Rusty Spoon, formerly known as Merlotte's. For old times sake. ]

((ooc: Available at the bar or skulking around outside somewhere, if you want a meeting that doesn't involve ridiculous amounts of alcohol! ))

The Defense Force, huh... I'm shaking. [ More like rolling his eyes before locking them on Jack again. ] Bring it on. The nazis couldn't keep me down, I'm pretty sure your group of boy scouts wouldn't fare much better.

[ He'd welcome the challenge, to be honest. Even more so now with Buffy gone. ]

((ooc: Totally okay! It's always worth the wait so I don't mind at all! ))

[Jack meets both gaze and taunt head on, one eyebrow lifting lazily.]

I think you’re forgetting, though, Spike, that the Nazis didn’t have the advantage of already having you trapped in a prison you absolutely can’t escape. And there’s quite a few of us in the DF. How long do you think you can hide from all of us?

Ah, Jackie-boy... that's where you're mistaken. [ He lets his voice drop to a low predatorial purr. Way to say just the right thing. He's been playing nice so far but with Buffy's departure he has little reason to and Jack just hit the buttons needed to bring him back to how it's supposed to be. Blood and fire, death and ruin. That's what he is, with or without Dru by his side.

He's a monster. Not a man. Buffy was wrong. ]

The question is how long you lot can hide from me.

[Okaaay. He’d honestly thought they were just playing here. He wasn’t, after all, particularly bothered by Spike killing him because it wasn’t permanent and, frankly, didn’t rate at all high on his list of ‘worst ways to die’, and besides, he figured better him than almost anyone else here. He didn’t actually think Spike really posed a real threat to anyone else.

But apparently he was wrong. What Spike’s just said has a definite ring of very real threat to it.

He goes still, eyes searching Spike’s face for evidence that he really means it, that this isn’t just one more jibe, another attempt to get a reaction out of him.

He’s fairly sure it’s not.

He folds his arms across his chest, regarding Spike coolly. In a way, this is easier than trading barbs for fun. Playing the leader of the good guys facing down a threat is a role far simpler and less open to confusion.]

And why, exactly, would we be hiding from you, Spike?

[ This may have escalated further and faster than he intended for it to do, but it's no joke. He's sick and tired of not being taken seriously, even more so with being lumped in with the sorry, be-souled excuses for vampires they've got in this joint. He's tired of being seen as a non-threat, as the puppy who doesn't chase cars anymore, the Big Bad that lost his edge. Whether it's the chip or his future self or the current reputation he's got around here, it's leaving a bad taste in his mouth.

It's about time they find out what he's really about. William the Bloody. The Slayer of Slayers. The Big Bad.

He meets that cool look with a smirk, head cocked playfully to the side as he reaches out to pat Jack on the arm. Deceptively friendly. ]

Why don't you give that a good think? I'm sure you can work it out. [ And with that he takes a step to the side, just about ready to leave. ]

[Jack lets him go. It's hard – it's incredibly hard – but it's the only way to play this. He needs time to think, to do some reconnaissance, to work out what's going on with Spike, what's sparked this odd little rebellion (as he sees it). He needs to determine whether Spike really is a serious threat here or not. And that'll be easier to do out of sight, watching Spike with others who aren't him, to find out if this is just a show put on for him or whether it's actually real.

So, uncharacteristically, he reigns himself in and clenches his jaw tight shut as he moves aside to let Spike pass. He watches him till he's out of sight, and then he sets off for home. He's kept Ianto waiting quite long enough.]
