Day 238 | closed voice; | open action;
[ liz is one of the lucky few who didn't spill her guts to the class yesterday, but that doesn't mean she feels entirely comfortable with everything that's been going on. So, in an effort to help get herself back on some sort of a schedule, she's taken to patrolling the dome today. she probably should just keep to one little area, but habits are hard to break and she's slowly coming to see this prison as her new "town." that means the whole place needs to be protected and that's what she's doing.

so she can be found wandering just about anywhere in the dome except sector 6. ]

[ locked voice to the mystic falls crew ]

[ later on, she leaves a message for everyone from mystic falls, just to check up on them. ]

Everyone doing okay today?

[ seven, however, was not as lucky. she was forced to discuss things she would never have willingly brought up, and it's shaken her, shattered part of her confidence and left her doubting her every move. she sees liz walk into the store she's about to walk out of, having found nothing of interest within its walls, and tells herself that it would be a waste of time to stop and chat when there are other, more productive matters to be seen to today. ...but that's a borg way of looking at things. a human would say hello, wouldn't they?

turning on her heel away from the door, seven makes her approach. ]
Sheriff. I trust you are well?

[ striking up conversations: she's getting better at it. ]

[ liz was certainly more open about things than she normally would have been, but she's grateful she didn't actually say too much more than usual.

regardless, when she hears the familiar voice, she turns and offers a tight-lipped smile in greeting. she remembers seven from their first encounter on liz's first day in the prison. ]

As well as can be expected after the nonsense yesterday. How are you doing? Seven, wasn't it?

[ and somewhere back in the delta quadrant, the doctor is suddenly bearing his smug tight-lipped grin and has no idea why. ]

[ chill your holomatrix, doc. this is data and penelope garcia's influence, not yours. :p ]

Yes, Seven. [ though part of her almost offers up annika. that's her human name. she allows data to use it. she was uncomfortable with it aboard voyager, but the reasons to not use seem less important here than they did there. and people would likely be less receptive of her should voyager return home if she's still insistent upon utilizing her borg designation. ] I am-- Better. I did not enjoy yesterday's sessions, but I doubt there were many who did.

[ in her own way, liz wouldn't judge on the name thing. if she could get over a lifetime's prejudice about vampires, she can get over something she never knew existed. ]

You're probably right. I know I didn't and from the sound of it, most of the others didn't, either. Can't say we appreciate being forced to talk about things, but at least today seems to be pretty normal.

It wasn't the first time the wardens required us to attend therapy sessions, but it was the first that they chose to deploy tactics that forced our hand when it came to opening up about things we would normally not discuss.

[ someone's going to avoid the food and stick with regenerating for a while. yep. trust issues, she has them. they're not obvious, but they're there. ]

So this happened before? I take it no one was very talkative. Or at least they didn't offer enough to make the wardens happy.

[ liz wishes she could do that. ]

They resisted. Some even managed to evade the bots, but were later punished for failing to report to their assigned sessions.

Sounds like the escape rate was smaller this time. [ she kind of wishes she could have been in that number, but the idea of being punished doesn't sit well. ] The wardens's idea of punishable offenses is ridiculous. This is less a prison and more a circus.

[ rehabilitation her ass. ]

I am inclined to agree. They deploy ineffectual methods, yet appear to be... annoyed when we fail to improve.

And it's not like they're very personable, either. They could learn a thing or two from my town's prison. [ so says the sheriff. ] People don't appreciate being punished for having free will.

I trust yours is attached to a judicial system that tries those they punish before they are sentenced to life in prison.

Yes. And we don't imprison innocents for something they haven't done. A lot of my list was circumstantial. Those charges didn't fly back home.

[ mostly because she's the sheriff. there was that time she was removed from the system, but she's back now and all that hardly counted anyway because of what they were going to do. that, of course, made her think of what happened to the council later and in a very small part of her mind, she's glad she wasn't part of the council then or she wouldn't be alive to help protect caroline. ]

Mine was comprised of acts committed by an entity at large, not myself as an individual.

[ and that which she did participate in was not of her own volition. she was acting upon the will of the hive mind, unable to think for herself or recognize that these acts were wrong, only that it was the collective's will that they be done. ]

See? Circumstantial. Sometimes I think these "wardens" just want more of us here to act as entertainment for themselves. They accuse us of a lot of things we couldn't control and then stick us in a place for rehab that's just a glorified theater. And then they wonder why we're not happy.

[ her opinion of the wardens just keeps dropping and dropping. ]

I suspect we are here for purposes beyond rehabilitation. It may very well be a facade for their true intentions.

Their rehabilitation is ineffective, and they have stated on numerous occasions that those who leave the dome are lost in the dimensional stabilizer instead of being returned to their proper places.

[ as tuvok would say, it is only logical to assume they have ulterior motives. ]

Why would they bring us here if there's a chance to lose us?

[ or does that mean they intentionally lose people? ...it's almost like they discard the ones they grow tired of. ]
