[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

[Rebekah wants to be in this group even less than the last one. But she's already ingested food at this point so the damage is done.

She sits down, fishing something out of the bowl.
]

Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?

Are you going to be answering that question anytime this... century? [ Damon's snacked on a few yummy things. He's totally open to discussing his feelings and everything ever and isn't hating it one bit. ]

[She shoots a look over at Damon, annoyed.]

Yes. I was.

[Rude.]

I think there has been lately. Being here has been like a second chance for me, aside from people from home, no one had preconceived notions about me.

[Above all else, Rebekah craves love and acceptance. The fact that she's made friends here, it's had a large impact on her behavior.]

And even back home...I was changing there too, if the new memories are anything to go by.

[Eric rolls his eyes at the question because yes, there has been an increase in his humanity. ]

Several weeks spent with a horde of greedy, fanatical, self-serving pricks.

[Rebekah is almost amused by that.]

I suppose desperate times will do that.

[ At least someone is. [

Yes, nothing drives home the desire to avoid being a dickhead like being surrounded by a cult of them.

[ He's smiling the slightest bit as he says this. ]

I decided I had to throw in with the humans as opposed to the vampires.

[ Of course he doesn't know that soon the humans will turn against vampires as a whole. ]

A cult? [She wrinkles her nose.]

As someone who's run through a few of those in my time, you have my sympathies.

[Rebekah's spent so much of her life viewing humans as toys, a means to an end but lately?

She's not so sure.
]

Sometimes making the right choice means making one that would surprise you. I recently risked my life for that of a human's -- something I wouldn't have before.

[But she had owed Matt. And Alexander had taken so much from her before, this time she had had control of the outcome of the situation.]

Religious vampires if you can believe such a thing.

[ He'd had the same sort of reaction with the nose wrinkling, but she's cuter doing it.

Eric is experiencing the same sort of change of heart. He didn't necessarily consider them toys, but annoyances and food? Yes.]

Hmmm. That's noble, admirable even. Was it someone you cared for already?

It's a little far fetched but I've heard of stranger things.

[All things considered, of course.]

It was. And I had nearly killed him before, I figured it was time I righted things -- as much as I could.

Then it is difficult for me to see how anyone could say you lack humanity. There are humans who wouldn't do what you did.

Of course. But most of the people from home are from much earlier points of time, they wouldn't know I did that.

[At least this one is easier for her than the abandonment group, though she doesn't really feel like her humanity is a big struggle.]

I've never switched it off. Not ever. [Her voice is quiet. She's been drinking coffee all morning even though now she's switched over to blood.]

They always say it's easier, being without it. Maybe it is. But she never wanted me to be the kind of person who didn't feel. Who just hurt people for no reason. It's not who I am.

[She folds her arms across her chest, staring at the wall. And then there was Jeremy, who'd somehow managed to make her feel more normal and human and like a teenager than she ever had.]

I always envied younger vampires. It's difficult for ones as old as me to turn off their feelings.

[And Rebekah's wanted to before. She feels too much, too easily. She loves too much. Mourns, angers, it'd be so easy if she could just turn it off.

Become something other than the hopeless fool she's always been.

[Anna's well-aware of who Rebekah is. Normally she might be a little wary of any of the Original vampires, but she's not feeling nearly as guarded as usual.]

I don't think it's supposed to be easy. And I'd rather feel it than feel nothing.

[Rebekah doesn't really know who Anna is, nor does she care. But she does nod in agreement.]

I'd rather love too easily, feel too much than nothing at all.

[She's said as much before. She's seen those who are afraid to love, like her brother, Niklaus, how empty his life is.

No thank you.

[She smiles very faintly at Rebekah's words. So they do have something in common aside from being vampires.]

I was dead. Before I showed up here. I mean, a ghost. For a long time I couldn't talk to anyone. No one could see me. It was -- [She searches for the right words to describe the experience.] -- incredibly lonely.

But being back like this and being able to interact with people again? I can't imagine ever even wanting to turn off my emotions.

I can imagine it must be lonely as ghost. [Rebekah thinks briefly of seeing Kol's ghost, how he talked about watching how "quickly" she got over his death (how she compartmentalized it). She remembers seeing Alexander's.]

No matter how bad things get, I would imagine the loneliness that would come with shutting them off would be worse.
