[Day 237] Personal Guilt Therapy Mingle | OTA
[ 'Have you ever thought that everything is your fault? Do you pile guilt on your shoulders, regardless of where fault lies? Do you sometimes blame yourself for a diminishing environment? Have you ceased bothering to cry 'but there were circumstances'! Then this is the therapy group for you!

The Personal Guilt Therapy session takes place in one of the classrooms in the education center. It looks very much like other therapy sessions you might have been herded into: plastic chairs in a circle around a low circle shaped table. Refreshments sit on a table near the door with cookies, pastries, coffee and hot water to dunk generic tea bags in. There are also a few envelopes of stale hot chocolate mix.

Rather than assault you with a battery of questions, the table in the center simply has a directive, a guide if you will, to talking about your guilt. The questions are written upon white paper then taped securely to the center of the table.

Once you've gotten yourself some refreshments and settled a bit discuss the following among your peers these questions:

*What do you personally feel guilty for? Why?
*What were the circumstances surrounding these things you feel guilty about?
*Was there any way to change the outcome that caused your guilt?
*Does anyone else blame you?
*How does your guilt affect your everyday life either back home or here?

ooc: as per all the other therapy sessions, don't feel it necessary to limit your character to these options. Mingle, make new threads, profit! ]

[ Peter looks up at Bart, a little surprised and definitely wanting to argue, but he realizes that Bart is talking about himself as well as Peter so he refrains. He doesn't want to make anyone feel bad. ]

Why'd you steal his identity?

[ It's seems the safest route to go. ]

It wasn't like I knew he was my nephew. [Not that it's a great excuse! Bart shifts in his seat, looking slightly uncomfortable.] I marry his aunt in the future. But basically, I needed credit, and I figured, this Wally guy's a kid - when the time they noticed the identity theft, the bank would've negated the charges because he couldn't legally own a card.

I'm not exactly proud of the fact that I was the one who trashed his credit report... but I don't know if I'll ever have the strength to tell him either.

[Peter shakes his head a little. ]

No. I mean...I get it. Why you would've chosen him. Or a minor, I mean. You had a reason to, right? A good one to need the credit I mean.

Of course. If I didn't use his identity, I would've been thrown out onto the streets.

[The funny thing is, he doesn't feel guilty about the identity impersonation.] When you're a teenage runaway, you can't exactly hold down a steady job.

In your situation, I might do the same thing. That doesn't mean I wouldn't feel guilty about it.

Just means you're a better man, Peter. I feel guilty about it, yeah, but when am I supposed to tell him?

[It's a decision Bart's been agonizing over for the past three weeks - basically, ever since he met Wally.] "Hey, kid, sorry you're stuck in Marina, but at least your credit report here's fantastic?"

Nah, I'm not. Honestly. [ He's done plenty of things. ] There are...people dead because of me.

[ Oh Bart. You poor thing. ] How old is he? I mean he's probably not worrying about his credit report yet?

Oh. [People died because of Bart too, but he's not sure what to tell Peter. The circumstances were probably different, right?]

He's sixteen. Around your age, I'd say? [He tilts his head to the side, thinking about it. Bart may be only 7 years older than Wally, but those 7 years make all the difference.] So it's not terrible, but I should tell him eventually.

[ Probably. Most likely anyway.

Peter nods at that.]
I'm seventeen, but yeah. Close. I'll have to see if I can find him, introduce myself. [ There aren't as many teenagers here as one might thing. ]

He might understand.

[Close enough for him! Bart's considering that a victory.] You should! He's a good kid, even if he's a little cocky sometimes. [Like Bart has room to talk there!]

You think? Really? I could always talk to him tomorrow about it, but I... I don't want him to hate me forever afterwards. [For the first time in his life, someone actually looks up to him, and Bart really doesn't know how to handle it.]

[ He should! ] Yeah? I'll look him up. [ Peter is guilty of the same thing so it's not like he can talk either. ]

I don't think he's going to hate you forever, not if you explain to him why you had to do it and what your reasoning was.

I hope you're right. [He stares down at his hands glumly.] Wally's identity wasn't the only one I stole, but it's the one that matters most to me right now.

[Yep, it was multiple identity theft. Bitty Bart was quite the identity forger.] He thinks the world of me, you know? Apparently I'm the reason he... ["wanted to be a superhero"] he took up science and forensics and all that CSI-type stuff.

I think I am? I mean...I don't know Wally, but I'm not much older then him and if I were in his place, I think I'd be okay with it.

[ Peter knows that sometimes you do things because you have to and not because you want to. ]

Wow. That's cool. I mean...that's gotta be awesome to have that kind of good influence on someone.

[ He means it. He hopes one of these days he can be that kind of influence on someone. He knows Spider-Man kind of already is, but it's got to be gratifying when you and not your alter ego has an influence as well. ]

[Either way, Bart's decided he'll confess to it tomorrow. Figures that his accidental session would help more than the one he actually got assigned to.]

It would be, if I were any good at it. [He holds a hand to his mouth, trying to muffle his laughter, but it's not working.] I mean, I'm good at chemistry? I did some classwork here and there, when I wasn't traveling, but I never thought I'd inspire another kid to take up science.

[ Hey, Peter is glad to help out. ]

Has he decided on a particular branch of science or just science in general? [ Science is kind of Peter's thing, even before the whole spider thing. ]

I wanna say biochem, but I'm not a hundred percent sure. [Bart's already imagining the science play dates in his head...] Like, for Christmas, I promised that I'd take him down to the lab, and he'd show me the experiment that gave him his powers.

I kind of already saw it in therapy today [he gestures down the hall], but he impresses me every time he rattles off complicated formulas as if it were nothing.

Biochem is fun. [ He's interested in the same study and while he's always been interested in it, the spider that gave him his power made him more interested in it as did his work with Dr. Connors. The idea didn't work for Connors, but if Peter could figure out a way to successfully merge human dna and animal dna, the way his body did naturally, it would change so many lives. ]

What's his power? Or...is that okay to ask? [He's been pretty closed mouthed about his own power out of habit. ]

[Crap. He'd just... admitted to his nephew having powers without asking if it were something he could reveal to the whole world. Bart presses his lips together.]

Tech...nically... I don't know if I can tell you his power, but I can tell you mine. [Since it runs in the family.] I can run really, really fast. Like, speed of light fast.

Oh. Yeah. I mean...I should've...that was rude of me. [ Peter starts doing some backtracking. He does think it was rude of him. He just isn't doing the best job controlling his thoughts and his mouth and the filters that are supposed to be there.]

Oh wow. That's....really cool. I got lots of things, but not that. It would be cool. Handy for getting around.

Nah, I was the one who just told you he had them. [Bart tries to wave it away with his hand, but he's not sure if he's successful at the attempt.]

It's kind of the best. Though if you don't have super-speed, what do you have? ... Uh, if you're cool with me knowing.

Yeah. No. I"m cool with it. Uhm...super reflexes. I can climb walls; I like hanging upside down; Super strength; Really good healing abilities. Not instant, but better than average.

[Bart whistles softly.] You kind of sound like one of my best friends. ... Well, except for the hanging upside down part.

[Clark would much rather fly than climb walls, but the gist of his abilities sounds the same.] It's a pain hiding that kind of stuff around here, isn't it? I know some of the others aren't normal - we've got a freaking Blood Shack - but it's still kinda weird.
