DAY 236 [voice]
... So I either slept long and hard or I just fuckin' up and made like mist and evaporated for a bit there.

Either way: orange's still not my color. Noooo thanks. Baggy ass jumpsuit does nothing for a girl's figure. I look like a breadstick. A cheese breadstick, exactly 666 calories from the depths of hell's kitchen. Off the hook and uncontainable, the hard and fast starch diet of kings coming your way with a side of pasta. Mom's spaghetti. Luckily I don't give a rat's ass about shit like that, so I'll eat everyone's share. All of it. Fuckin' mine.

In other news, the god damned weather: what's shakin'? Looking all kinds of stormy gross today on the day that is also day 236. Days.

[ Roxy looks at her for a minute and bursts out laughing, taking a long sip herself. Nowhere near as much as Calliope took, but... ]

Oh my god, you drank like a third of it. That's. Please. It's okay. I'll carry you home. You're tiny, it's all good.

[A third, she thinks, is pretty good.]

[Not ENOUGH, because that leaves two thirds of the poison for Roxy, but she's not quite ready to take more yet.]

I'm really not so tiny, am I? I mean, I do have a little muscle on me...

[ She giggles and opens the doors for her. ]

Only enough to get the job done-- movement and nothin' more. You gonna head to the gym and buff up?

Maaaaybe.

[Not really, but it doesn't sound like an awful idea, either. She'd only want to keep the body relatively weak in order to prevent Caliborn from hurting anyone more easily.]

[She steps inside, but not before plucking the bottle from Roxy again.]

You'll have to educate me on the wider world of manicure, ah, stuff. I don't know a thing.

[ Roxy lets her and laughs, leading the way toward the store. ]

Me either honestly. I only know about makeup cause my mom left shit laying around and I played with it a lot, but I've never had anyone around to give me a mani or pedi.

It's gonna be one hell of a learning experience.

[She holds onto the bottle as long as she can, clutching it and taking intermittent sips.]

Exciting! We'll get to figure things out together. [A slight wobble.]

You will look really pretty, no matter what.

[ Roxy's not really sure how to react to that compliment, but she laughs anyways and continues on a little awkwardly. ]

Nahhhh. I'll just be my average self. But figuring shit out together?? What a blast. That is gonna be great. Fun. Eheheh. Don't drink too fast. You're not used to the boozes and so you gotta pace it. You'll get sick otherwise.

Noooo, you're lovely, and I think you know it. I know I do! There is no need to be humble.

[It belongs in a bush, she thinks glumly. It kind of sucks having to pound all this down, but she is doing it for her friend, and it buys her time to try to figure out the best way to suggest that Roxy stop drinking it.]

[She becomes supremely meditative on the nature of alcohol, which translates into staring blankly down at the container as they walk.]

[ .............. ]

Uh. Hey. Callie.

[ She waves a hand in front of her face. Nowhere near close enough to touch, but enough to try and snap her out of it. She gently pries the alcohol from her hands. ]

I think you had enough. Don't be like me.

[Calliope blinks and looks up at Roxy.]

[It is one thing if Roxy did not understand what it was doing to her. But that comment is unmistakable, at least to a degree strong enough that it strikes Calliope in a way so harsh that she almost didn't realize she felt that way about it.]

[Calliope feels absolutely crushed and afraid for her most precious and best friend.]

I'm not.

[Her voice breaks and she officially reaches maximum pathetic threshold without actually bursting into tears. Which she may go ahead and do anyway, at this rate.]

It is so bad for humans, Roxy. You're just so precious and I wanted you to be happy. I didn't know...

[ She laughs, totally nervous and unsure of herself. She shouldn't have said that. It's an awkward thing to say. She's gone and made Calliope sad because of it. ]

Sheesh, it's fine, don't even worry. It's...

[ She really doesn't want to address what Calliope is getting at. She doesn't want to talk about her drinking right now. She knows it's not good for her but it's just a matter of not caring. It helps her sleep and while it doesn't often help her forget her troubles, it forces her to relax or she just plain blacks out and either way is fine to her. ]

... What is this, all of a sudden? I'm fine, I'm happy.

[ Roxy feels a pang of guilt for hurting Calliope this way, for making her worry at all. She doesn't wonder if anyone else would worry like this, though. It's just not something that's really real to her yet, and to some degree Calliope's worry doesn't make sense to her. ]

[She feels extremely sheepish, now, but she knows she isn't wrong. Or at least, the momentum of her feelings is very hard to slow or reverse when she's in this state of mind.]

Dirk and I discussed it. He's really worried. I'm sure Jane and Jake are, too.

It has been eating at me since you vanished, and I suppose I couldn't... not... I'm sorry. [She goes to pull Roxy into a hug. Gently, but it is still a great deal more than she would ever do when sober and calm enough to mind herself.]

We just care a lot, love. I do, especially. You are my very best friend.

[ Roxy hugs her back, firm and tightly. ]

It's fine, though. It's really fine. So don't worry. Dirk... shouldn't worry either, and neither should they. They and you should all be more worried about yourselves, man. I got this. It's really alright, you know?

[ She's so embarrassed. Not in a way that has her feeling anything towards Calliope, but a distinct regret for having said something so off-handed. ]

[The absurdity of Roxy's assurances hit her off-guard.] Goodness, Roxy. I've always been your "patron troll," out to help and look after all four of you.

[She shakes her head, and promptly shoves her face into Roxy's shoulder, since that movement ended up being a bad idea for her sense of balance.]

Well- I mean... since coming here, none of you have really needed my advice, or anything. I don't blame you. I don't really know anything, not really. But I miss it—being able to help. The only person I ever get to help anymore is Aradia, and she doesn't need me.

[ There's a small silence on Roxy's part as she digests that. She rubs her upper back. ]

Don't be stupid, Callie. Of course I need you. Especially now that Jane's gone... nah, even before that. Even if I'm not constantly grabbing you for advice, man, you're always there and that's really important to me.

[She leans back and frowns, looking like she's about to offer a rebuttal.]

[Calliope then shoves backward away from Roxy, not intending to actually hurt her or knock her down, but because she needs the momentum to stagger far enough to heave the contents of her stomach onto the ground.]

[ And Roxy is of course rushing forward after that, trying to help her to her knees and to attempt to shield her pretty suit from airborne vomit. Since she only has one hand to try and do that (she's rubbing Calliope's shoulders), only a little is spared. ]

Jeez Louise. Callie, you gone and made me sound like Jake. Jeez Louise-- the fuck was I thinking when that decided to all come out of my mouth like so much barf.

Come on, girl, let's get you something to settle your stomach, okay?

[Calliope groans, feeling as though she is currently suspended in the precise center of a perfect storm of misery. She is beginning to suspect that cherubs are especially not meant to drink that swill.]

[It takes a moment of slow breathing, and then Calliope nods and slowly pushes herself to her feet.]

[ Roxy will try to help her to her feet, if she lets her. And then guide her gently along. ]

Come on. Don't drink like that ever again, Callie, you don't got the... the guts, I guess, and I'm talkin' literal guts, cause hell and heaven knows you got the other kind. We're gonna go sit on the bench here, okay?

It was a fairly stupid idea. [She sits down on the bench as soon as they reach it, wincing and staring down at her feet as she sways gently in the breeze that may or may not actually be there.]

But I'm still afraid for you.

[ No breeze. Roxy puts a steadying arm around her shoulders. ]

Whatever Dirk said, he's just... honestly too much of a worrier. I got this under control, under wraps, the entire thing is 100% totes fine. God, I can't believe he'd go and scare you like that.

This feels miserable.

[Whether that was meant to be a reply or simply something she noticed, it is not immediately elaborated upon.]

[Calliope takes the arm on her shoulder as her cue to rotate in toward Roxy and fiercely hug her.]
