day 235 | xiv ❧ action + video → open.
» ACTION | EVENING | SECTOR 2, TVÅ PARK

[ sookie's got the evening off from merlotte's and the blood shack doesn't need her help tonight. instead of taking her free time indoors where it could be spent reading or watching some knock off television movie that makes some of lifetime's worst look absolutely golden, she's spending it in sector two's två park. she's been spending time here and there working with her light, and her control has blossomed and become much more refined since that day she lost control and was punished for demolishing a statue.

anyone who happens to come upon her will find her situated in a corner of the hedge maze, a glowing ball of light dancing between her fingers. ]

» ACCIDENTAL VIDEO
Shit.

[ at one point during her light fiddling, her headset falls out of her pocket, landing in just the right position to kick it into the on position. viewers are treated to the sight of sookie wielding her light for the time it takes her to reabsorb it and reach for the fallen device. ]

"That depends."

She keeps the light trained on him, shifting it into one hand instead of two and holding that palm out towards him. She knows that in spite of how good her blood tastes to vampires, how much it's like sunshine in a pretty blonde bottle for them, that her light doesn't have the same effect. In fact, it has quite the opposite one, and she could burn Eric seven ways to Sunday if sent this flying his way.

Eric raises one eyebrow at her, taking a cautious step toward her. He moves to the side ever so slightly so that he's approaching her from the side that isn't deadly. He is well aware of how much it will hurt if she decides to burn him, but he also trusts her. The only danger is in whether Sookie trusts him right now or not.

"I suppose it does," he responds, still approaching her.

She trusts him -- now. A couple months ago, though... not so much. She would've held this ball of light up in defense, ready to attack if necessary, forever unsure of Eric Northman's true motives and intentions when it came to her. That's no longer true, and she understands that Eric would never hurt her, just as she hopes he understands that she would never use her light against him unless she had to.

"So, which is it? Me or my light?"

So much has changed here and in many ways, Eric is grateful for this place. He refuses to allow himself to believe that this would not have happened anyway. Sookie is his. She was meant to be his regardless of circumstances, but he does know that they have things easier here than they would ever be back home. There's far too much interference back home for 'easy'.

A crooked grin quirks one corner of his lips up as he steps forward, closer and closer until he's standing in front of her. He reaches down to pick up the hand that's not holding the ball of light and brings the inside of her wrist to his lips.

"I always choose you, Sookie. You're the reason for the only bad business decisions I've ever made."

At one point he'd been most interested in her for her telepathy, her fae-ness. She'd been an edge in business. Now, he'd only use her that way if she agreed to it, or if it would save her life in some way.

Sookie doesn't necessarily believe that she was destined to be his, and has no way of knowing that her instinctive issues with the concept of destiny and meant-to-be are well founded, but she is glad that she found him. They really do have an easier time of being together, of being happy, here than they ever would've back in Bon Temps (or Shreveport for that matter), because of what they are, who they are, and their respective connections. Tara would never approve of her being with Eric after what he did to Lafayette, and there was a part of her that was grateful Tara wasn't here to spoil the moment -- she missed her and Lafayette so much, but neither of them belonged here. Anything they might've done to warrant being here, whether it be Lafayette's involvement in illegal substances or the things they did while under Maryanne's control, were either not their fault or necessary evils.

"Bad business?" She laughed, taking mock offense to the statement. "And just how am I a bad business decision, Mr. Northman?"

The corner of his lips quirk up into a grin as he reaches down, still careful to avoid her light, and tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear.

"I should be exploiting your gifts, using them to secure power and gain more of the same. Yet...my exploitation of those things has been minimal. In fact, I've lied to more people than I care to count and told them you were 'just a waitress'."

To Eric, and to the vampire community at large, Sookie is anything but 'just a waitress'. However, he knows that that's what she wishes to be. He's known that's what she wishes to be for a very long time.

"You did make me go to Dallas, once," she reminds him, careful to avoid pointing out why he'd had her go.

If she hadn't done that for him, she would've never met Godric or seen those softer sides to a man she thought to be impossibly cold and incapable of feeling. She never would've met Barry, a fae halfling like herself, who she was sorry to recall was likely still trapped in that fae realm with Mab and her court. Sookie wishes she could've saved him, but he'd taken a bite of that fruit. If she'd pulled him through the portal with her and her grandfather, she would've suffered the same fate as Earl Stackhouse.

"That was more about survival," Eric responds. He's got no doubt that Sophie-Anne would have had him killed. At the very least, she wanted him under her thumb and Eric wouldn't survive long that way.

"Besides, I hadn't quite yet learned to make bad business decisions on your behalf yet." Would he have done anything different if he could have? No. He'd needed Sookie there for many reasons. He'd felt secure taking her there that he could protect her. The risk had been acceptable, while the alternative hadn't been.

"And concern," she points out. Also love. Eric loved his maker, and there was nothing anyone could say to make her think differently. She'd seen how devastated he'd been on the roof that morning, how torn up he was -- and still is -- after Godric met the sun.

Sookie laughs, the corners of her mouth quirking upwards. "Oh, I see. I'm a learning experience. Gotcha."

Eric bows his head. "And concern." And love. Yes. He loves Godric. He will always love Godric, for the rest of his existence. So much so, that it is difficult to talk about his maker most of the time.

A smile flits across his lips at that. "To someone who thought he had learned everything the world could teach him, that is quite a compliment."

"I'll take it as one, then."

It was undeniably flattering to be told that you showed someone as old as Eric, who has seen thing she can't even imagine during his time on Earth, something new. He's learning from her, and she doesn't know who is benefiting from that more, her or him.

Eric nods. She was meant to.

Honestly, he believes it's benefitting to the both of them. She needs to know how extraordinary, how important she is, and he is beginning to realize that some things can still surprise him. It makes him more invested in 'life' and in humanity. He becomes more emotional over all and less cold, old and detached from the world at large.

"Now, would you like to discuss with me what's on your mind?"

Because he's certain that this isn't Sookie simply practicing with her light for her own defense. She's got something on her mind. He just has to get her to confess what it is.
