[ day 234 ] action :: open
It’s late in the day and Jean-Luc is just leaving the hospital. Aside from the fact that it takes something of great magnitude to get him into any kind of sick bay, an abnormal experience had been made even more surreal by the cold sterility of the bots. Nevertheless, something had happened that made him feel that a medical exam was necessary. It had just been several ticks in his chest, right where his artificial heart implant was. It usually ran without fail, almost unnoticeable to the point that he forgot that he had an artificial heart at all. Given the unknowns of the medical advancements and knowledge of the prison, he had thought it best to reassure himself that all was well without drawing too much attention to the issue or himself. He knew how concerned both Data and Geordi, and possibly even Seven, might be were they to know that he felt... unwell.

It's his distrust of the bots as a whole which had him heading toward the clinic that Helen runs. He might run into anyone along the way, but he opens the voice function to Helen as he moved through the dome.

[ Voice locked to Helen ]

Doctor Magnus, [ He clears his throat, realizing his error. ] Helen, perhaps you might find the time to meet me at your clinic as soon as you’re able.

ooc: Picard is on a trek from sector 5 to sector 3. Anyone can run into him between point A and point B. Or afterward. Technology fail!

It's an interesting quandary, indeed. Perhaps they've similar technology to our own and we're currently none the wiser for it.

[ Which would give him hope should his heart be malfunctioning as he's worried that it might be. But on the subject of food. ] Perhaps some evening soon I'll rustle up my mother's ratatouille recipe. It's been some years since I made it with her, of course. But I believe I remember enough to pull it off with some manner of success for us all to sit down to dinner together.

[Even though he knows it's not intended to make a point, or at least not the point Geordi takes from it, he feels a little guilty. Not enough to dampen his smile, but enough to encourage himself to get into a higher gear when it comes to figuring this place out.] It's just a matter of time until we figure out what's going on here, and how to reverse it.

In the meantime, dinner sounds great. It's kind of strange having so much free time all of a sudden, but we should take advantage of at least a little of it.

[ His intention was not to pressure Geordi into anything. But he knew that between Data and Geordi if there was a way out they had both the willpower and the knowledge to find it. He would always bet on his crew against any foe. ]

Agreed. Have you thought to join the Investigative team of the Defense Force? It isn't necessary as anything Data or myself learn will surely be passed along to you. But it might give you further insight toward the how and why of this place nonetheless.

You know, I have. I've been chatting with Reid a little, just to see if we'll get along. I think I might join up just as soon as I get a few things done.

[Geordi slings his bag over his shoulder and starts for home, assuming that's where the Captain is going.] I've decided to ask permission to build a holodeck. I can use community service and inmate recreation as the rationale, and it will be useful for simulating escape plans.

[ That wasn't the direction he was headed in. But he'll walk with Geordi a bit, for now. ]

What a resourceful idea. Perhaps it might give us better insight to the prison itself as well. Very good. We would have to discover how closely they might monitor usage of a holodeck.

That was my thought. If we have access to a holodeck we'll have tons more options for testing the limits a little in a controlled way.

All this assumes they'll give me the space and materials, of course, but I think I'll be fine. It'll be just like petitioning the Federation Council, and we know how that can be sometimes. [Not exactly calling their superiors hard-headed bureaucrats, but if the shoe fits...]

Oh yes, we know all too well. You'll have to word your request very carefully, explain the usage of a holodeck in a way that seems non-threatening to them and their task of controlling the population. [ The wardens can be very black or white, no room for nonsense or a grey area. ]

I trust you'll keep us apprised of the situation as it evolves.

No problem, Captain. I did fine in my interspecies diplomacy courses at the Academy. [He may be a technical guy, but he's talked his way out of his fair share of hairy situations too. He's no Picard, but he'll hold his own.]

Besides, they seemed pretty agreeable so far. They gave me my VISOR as soon as I asked.

[ Jean-Luc nods, fully confident in Geordi's ability to mince words and turn them to their favor. ]

Yes, I had noticed. I had wondered whether you arrived with it or not. I trust it's functioning properly.
