[Day 234] Enchanting Concert Mingle

Um... hello!

[Dressed in a elegant black dress and gloves, Yuuki appears on screen, smiling sheepishly. She's at the beach, which is, of course, a little brighter than she likes. But the location aside, she's situated beneath a tree at the moment, and would look comfortable... if she weren't, obviously, a little nervous. She clears her throat, and bows after a moment.]

Ahem-- today I'm performing on the beach. It's-- well, it's something that I have to do. [A punishment] But I've worked really hard. [And the wardens want it to be public.] So if you don't have anything better to do... you're welcome to come and watch. We'll be starting shortly. Aha-- at the very least there's going to be snacks and food! So even if you don't like the performance, you can remember the delicious foods, right? Mm! Thank you.

[With a bow she expels a breath and cuts the feed.]

[There's a shaded mini stage put together over on the beach, with refreshments and snacks around and about. Nothing too large, but cozy and there's plenty of food to go around. Ice cream and popsicles (which you can never go wrong with) in addition to more savory snacks, such as takoyaki among other things. It's bigger than the girl at the center of attention would like. But she's going to see this through, even if the person who had originally helped train her rigorously to perform the songs isn't here any more.

On stage, she's wearing the pretty black number that Hikaru has carefully picked out for her. And despite her nerves from before, she's composed now. Training in how to handle herself in front of an audience (granted one at a ball) has proven to help when it comes to dealing with a large amount of people publicly. So, as she introduces herself once more, and her eyes swim about the beach to find Zero, and the rest of her roommates, she manages a smile.]

Mm... I've worked really hard on the songs for today! I wrote them together with Sheryl-san... so even though she's not here any more, I hope that I can convey them the way she would have liked. So for those of you who decided to come and listen... thank you!

[Taking position on stage, she waits for the sound of the music to begin, before her voice rings out. Filling the air and network, emotions wrap and coil around every lyric as she hopes for and wills the audience to become absorbed in the music and the listen to her.]

[She isn't surprised that Spike's presence drew her attention, or that the sight of him makes the air feel heavier. Even in the rare occasions, like now, when Lacus has trouble being completely honest with herself, she could never be enough in denial to admit that Spike frightens her now. It's less that he could have killed her and more her own helplessness to prevent it, a feeling which she's been unwillingly nursing for weeks.]

[She's never let fear settle into her, and she doesn't intend to start now. Maybe that's what makes her adjust the blue scarf around her neck (she debates removing it, but she doesn't want questions from others) and head after Spike. To prove she can do it, even though she's afraid. Even though the lingering effects of his attack are very much evident in her careful stride and pallor, in the way she looks at him.]

[And also, to say something that she needs to say.] No good comes in delaying the inevitable, I suppose. [It's too small a dome to avoid each other indefinitely, even had she the desire to try.]

[She makes no move to leave, and actually smiles a little as she shifts her clothing to reveal the crucifix hanging from her neck.] But seeing as he gave this to me for protection, I imagine he more or less expected it. He didn't, but I can guess. [She tucks the crucifix into the folds of her scarf. She well knows it's not a panacea.]

I wanted to apologize for him going after you. I should never have told him at all, and certainly no one deserves to be tortured because he wishes to mark his territory. [Did Spike deserve to be punished for attacking her? Perhaps. But she knows that's not what was behind Tyki's actions, and in her mind the two are distinctly separate.]

[She smiles genuinely at that; it's hardly the first time someone has mocked her for being reckless. Talking to a vampire is one of the less life threatening things she's ever done.] Daft, I suppose, if that's how you see it.

If you were going to kill me, you'd have done it. I can't see how my odds would get any worse by admitting I did something wrong. Especially if it amuses you.

I've got nothing to gain, pissing him off. Actually... you could say we're even now. [ So very far from it, but she already knows he's un-neutered and dangerous. Implicating his dear murderbro only seems fair. ]

No, I wouldn't have believed it was mercy. Similarly, that I took pains to have the incident go unreported isn't out of consideration for you.

[She doesn't voice it as anything near a threat, because it isn't. It's not exactly a secret, however, that most of the vampire hunters, or slayers if that's his preference, are on the Defense Force with her. And however much Spike enjoys killing Slayers, it could make his life here very aggravating.]

Nor was the fact that I didn't tell Sam who was responsible for my sudden absence from work. I have no desire to make things difficult for you so long as we are, as you say, even.

[ See, he was wondering about that. She could've so easily blown the whistle on him and unleashed a small hoard of Boy Scouts — or just the Slayer — but she didn't and he can't for the unlife of him figure out why.

After all, this is what vampires do. Or rather, what they're supposed to do. It's about time someone reminded the rest of the population about that and the lack of pitchforks is disappointing to say the least. ]

[Lacus sees no reason to hide her reasoning, even if he'll probably find it just as strange as her earlier apology.]

Because the last time there was dome-wide panic over vampires, there was talk of things like mandatory registration lists. That was when the Defense Force had the weight of the Warden behind it, and could throw inmates in a locked cell that took away their abilities.

I have a very personal aversion to that particular dynamic, no matter what some individuals have done wrong. No one is a second class citizen simply by virtue of who they are -- no one. What you are, what any vampire is, is a creature that feeds on humans. There's only so much ill will I can have about that, especially since you've already been punished, in a manner of speaking.

[She hesitates, but finishes truthfully.] Whatever Tyki does or doesn't feel about me, a part of me cares for him. I will trust him when he says that you and he have come to an arrangement.

[ He could and probably should leave it at this. She's not making a fuss. She's not threatening him or blackmailing him, not making a single demand that he should stay off the other inmates or even a particular inmate in exchange for her keeping her mouth shut. She's not doing any of the things he'd expect her to do and that confuses him.

Of course he needs to push it. ]

Funny how you trust the word of the bloke that made the attack possible in the first place.

Trusting his word that I have no reason to fear further attack from you and trusting him with the safety of the rest of the population are hardly one and the same. I know who Tyki is.

[Her lips quirk into a dry smile.] I didn't think your friendship was forged over needlepoint and cupcakes.

[Which begs the question of why she's banded to Tyki, still. A question on her mind a great deal lately.]

Maybe you're not completely daft. [ Not that he's very impressed and if he cared more or didn't know better, he'd ask the very question that she has on her mind. If she knows Tyki so well and she's such a champion of justice... why is she with him? It doesn't sound like she thinks he'll change.

He does know better. What the heart wants it wants and sometimes it's not about heart but rather crotch, but in any case it's blood and you can't go against that. You can't. ]

[Shaking her head,] I didn't confuse the two. That day when some effect within the dome manipulated everyone's emotions, I was made to in love with Tyki. [And he with her. She won't get into that.] We got the license because of it. It felt very real at the time, and yet it wasn't.

You make things sound very simple. At one time, I would have agreed. Unfortunately I have to account for those false yet intense feelings and two sets of overlapping but very divergent memories in which I had different loves. [Not to mention said partners yanked in and out of her life by this place.]

If you're to judge me, I'd prefer you do it based on the truth rather than assumptions.

It works its way into your bloodstream, it turns your head around, forcing you to work its will. Real love is devastating. It's the hardest bloody thing you could ever hope to live through and that is how you know it's real.

Sure. That lit'le spell might've done your head in but once it was gone you still stayed with the bloke. The precious truth that you're so bloody keen on is that you're a pathetic, sad lit'le girl who wouldn't recognize real love if it spat her in the face. If you think that is love... bloody hell.
