Day 233 Video and Action
[Open Video]

[Mal's wearing a cowboy hat and, though he looks a bit hung over, he's also grinning. Every once in a while, there's a whicker that sounds like a horse, and a horse's mane invades the video.]

Did ya'll know we had horses here?

Bart? Suppose I should thank you fer findin' me yesterday.

[That's the closest he'll get to an apology.]

Mal's pretty ecstatic to find the horses. He wasn't so happy about jumping through the hoops to get the license to be allowed to ride the horses, but any annoyance fled once he saddled one up and took her out. The mare ran quickly and he almost forgot his discomfort of the water as he rode along the beach. Anyone could encounter him either on horseback or later finishing up his ride and taking care of the horse after.

[Mal dismounts and stands right in front of her, measuring her up. She's cute. Young. He nods and starts walking towards the stables.]

We'll find a gentle one then. Makes ridin' a bit easier if'n you never done it afore.

[He walks up and down the stables before stopping in front of a gray one.]

Her... [He hands Jessica a sugar cube and clicks his tongue to bring the horse over.]

Jus' hold yer hand out. Say hi. She'll take the sugar cube...

	Thanks. [She smiles again. Easier is probably a good place to start. Jessica takes the sugar cube hesitantly -- she usually doesn't like being so close to human food, the smell kind of makes her sick but one so small won't be too bad, right? Which is why she'll hold it out nervously for the horse to sniff at.] (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[The horse shies away at first, sensing perhaps that Jessica is not fully human. Mal watches with open curiosity, wondering what exactly the problem is. But it slowly shuffles forward, the scent of sugar overpowering the fear of something unknown. Mal grunts in approval and turns to where the various tack is.]

Let ‘er get to know you a bit. I’ll find yer equipment.

[Saddle, blanket, bit and bridle. It takes only a little time before he’s back with what they need.]

	K... to saddle a horse... [He starts showing Jessica what to do, instructing her to the other side of the mare to help pass him straps.] Ain't all that difficult. Now we gotta get you up. 	[Mal steps back with some surprise.] Thought you said you ain't done this before. [The horse, however, seems a little shy. He puts a hand out on it's nose to calm it. 	[Mal gives her an appraising look before leading the mare out to stand next to his. He hands the reins up to Jessica instructing her to hold them in one hand and then swings into his own saddle.] K... 	[The horse moves forward and Mal quickly kicks his own so that they're riding side by side.] If all's you plan on is walkin'... you don't need to do much more'n sit there. 	Kick again and you can get her jogging. You should be able to sit that too, but pay more attention to how her body moves. [He kicks his own horse to get her moving a bit faster.] (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Easy to forget if you don't ride 'em ever. [Mal walks her through the steps, modeling with his own horse. About a half hour later, the horses are in their stalls and chomping away at some hay.] See, it ain't that bad. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
