day 227 ☠ video
I learned something today.

[Hatsuharu absolutely must share his new revelation... with his neutral expression and deadpan, monotone way of speaking.]

I took a different route during my walk this morning, and discovered... I've died.

And here I thought I've never felt so alive. Huh. Amazing. Does this mean I'm a zombie? A true mystery.

I will, darling. Hopefully I can deliver some comforting news even with all the lousiness that is this situation.

How's it going, other than this?

It's going pretty smoothly, to say the least. No complaints. Thanks for asking.

Man, you are the coolest customer. But really, no complaints? I mean, I get that you're laid back which is frankly pretty awe-inspiring, but you really like it here?

[He thinks about it, just to be sure he really had no complaints.

Nope. Nada.]

Other than being away from family and friends, I haven't found reasons to dislike it here.

[A distinct pause of stunned disbelief.]

Zen Master Hatsuharu, teach me your ways.

Zen Master Hatsuharu. I like the sound of that. It sounds very official.

Totally. And I'm sure it opens you up to all sorts of Jedi mind tricks.

But seriously. I wanna have no complaints about this sucky place. I want to not care about all the crap that goes on. I really, really want that.

Maybe it's just too early for me to see the same things you do.

Maybe. I hope you don't have to -- really. I mean I'm pretty miserable some of the time but I don't want my friends to be, too.

[Friends, huh? That was nice to hear.]

I understand. I wouldn't want my friends to be miserable either, even if it's only some of the time.

That is just about the sweetest thing I've heard all week. But no worries darling, I'll manage. I mean, it sort of comes with the territory of this place, and I think it's something almost every one of my esteemed fellow prisoners has been through if they're here long enough.

I can imagine.

[He closes his eyes in thought, imagining what it would be like in their shoes.]

I'd like to think that it gets easier with time, but in a case like this, I'm not so sure. It's almost like taking animals out of their natural habitats.

That analogy totally works. I definitely feel a few hay bales short of a proper barnyard, proverbially speaking.
