Day 226 l Christmas Party Mingle
[Ianto has, predictably, gone a bit overboard for the Christmas party he and Jack are throwing. The entire apartment has been decorated; there's a tree with gold and silver ornaments and twinkling lights, garlands draped over doorways, candles in every window and festive nicknacks scattered about. It looks like something out of a magazine, and may make visitors a little afraid to actually touch anything. There's also a lot of mistletoe around (one of the side effects of living with Captain Jack Harkness) so it's probably a good idea to keep one eye on the ceiling at all times.

Of course he's made plenty of coffee and some appetizers, so he hopes people really do respond to the invitation Jack sent out, otherwise there are going to be a hell of a lot of leftovers.]

Sorta? I mean... well. [She looks a little sheepish, because she bears her responsibility for all this.] I'm sure it's devastatingly obvious by now but I don't do great with change. So being brought here and finding Reid already here my instinct was to cling to him like a baby koala. But Reid had already dealt with all the new arrival junk and he was attached to Kitty, and she was just always there and wanting into "our" business, you know? It wasn't her fault at all, it was just rough.

And then later she sort of implied there might be a problem with Reid, that he wasn't okay, and then refused to tell me what it was. So I told her I was going to Reid no matter what she said because I was worried. That didn't go over for either of us.

And then our boss and friend showed up and he didn't approve of the way Kitty handles the DF...

We talked and I'm over it, but I don't really get the impression all the awkward is gone. I mean I'd like anyone if they were important to Reid and good for him. And I know she's important. I'm not so sure about good sometimes but I think that might just be that he's... he's Reid. He's part of my family. Maybe no one would be good enough, as cliche as that sounds. I have unfair standards for people I love.

Kitty might meet them, I don't know. I certainly don't know her well enough to say, because of the aforementioned awkward.

[He nods thoughtfully.] Hmm, I guess it is hard arriving after someone you were close to had already settled in here. [Well, he had it to a certain extent, finding Rose already having shacked up with the Doctor here and about to do so with another version.]

I have to admit, I think I'm probably a bit biased about Kitty because she and I just hit it off from the start, just like you and I did. There's a lot I still don't know about her, but I do think she's got a good heart, and I'm sure she'd never hurt Reid intentionally.

[And he's curious as hell about whatever it was that might or might not have been wrong with Reid, but that's none of his business and he's not going to pry.]

Trust me babe, if I thought she'd hurt him intentionally I wouldn't be over it. Honestly, I never thought that. I never really blamed her for any of the drama, but it wasn't like I could just magically be comfortable either? I mean, she needed to be close to Reid, and I needed to close ranks and keep strangers out of my comfort zone. [She bumps her fists together.] The two weren't really compatible, is all.

Honestly, if it hadn't been for that, I think we'd have gotten along famously. And I forgive quick and easy, but she seems a little tentative? Understandably, and all.

[He does have Ianto and that means that French kissing is just about the naughtiest thing he can get away with with anyone else, and she doesn't have Derek any more and he wants to give her something to enjoy. Without the restrictions imposed by their wardens, he'd be offering a whole lot more, Ianto or no Ianto, but this is all he can give her (in this regard).

So he grins, very sure she'd tell him no if she meant it, and leans in, one hand coming up to cup the side of her head as he presses warm, slightly parted, lips against hers.]

Is that so. [It's drawled slowly, with amusement, as the longing starts to ache a little more. Time was, he'd be spending the rest of this evening in a slow, sweet, flirtatious seduction of Penelope Garcia, and quite possibly Derek Morgan too, if he'd still been here.

He shakes himself and thinks of Ianto and everything they've got now and reminds himself how much he's enjoying that. Here, he can't have that and Garcia too. In fact, he's beginning to realise, it's probably not just being here that affects that. It's the very fact that he's not going round sleeping with other people that's given him what he's got with Ianto.

So he lets out a breath and smiles and says, a tiny bit forced:] I should probably let you go mingle, really. And go and be hosty myself.
