day 226 video; / action;
I was thinking back to the handful of days I've spent here and how I've been spending them. It got me to wondering. I've been keeping track of the days, how long I've spent here and I wanted to know if there's anyone else here who keeps track of the day it would be back home. This is, of course, assuming that the way the wardens keep track of time is the exact same as in your home worlds.

[ She looks thoughtful. ] This place seems to operate on exactly the same number of hours and minutes, though the days don't seem to be much different. No weekends off, for instance. [ That's a joke, people. ] I was simply curious if anyone else had thought about it or if I was simply the odd man out. Today would be November 5 for me. Rather odd, having Christmas in November, though I suppose it could always be worse. We could be moved to a new location on Halloween.

[ For the record, that totally happened. They were moved to Squall on the day that would have been Halloween in her world. The irony was not lost on her.

Action: Today she'll be spending time in various places. The clinic will see her the most, but she will also take a little time to wander around the snow-covered lanes to see if she can find a handful of people among the drifts. Everyone she's met in-person will receive a small card with various good wishes written on the inside in her neat, precise handwriting. For some, she has more:

Euphemia li Britannia - "I do hope the holiday, whatever it means to you, is a good one. Perhaps in the future, you and I can become better acquainted. Until then, I should hope you remain well. Yours, as ever, Helen Magnus"

Jean-Luc Picard - "I've enjoyed our conversations so far. Perhaps the future will hold more. Helen"

Martha Jones - "Take the day off, if you weren't already planning to. Dr. Magnus"

Rebekah - A light blue scarf that will go well with her hair and a note: "I hope all is well with you. Helen"

Rose (TVD) - "The answer to your question is, 'It's a genetic mutation: longevity.' Any other questions?"

It occurs to her that she doesn't know where most of them are, but that's never deterred her before. ]

That makes sense. It seems like something my brother would keep careful track of as well. Though I suppose now that he's back he could tell you that himself.

I find it helps pass the days, once you're certain of how many have actually gone by.

I would also imagine it's nice having family here with you.

[ nice and also not at the same time. it's a duality, as is most of helen's life. ]

Yes, it is. He's been gone for some time. They all have. Ah, that is, Nunnally and Cornelia were once here too. And Suzaku, though, he isn't a brother of mine.

I wouldn't wish this existence on anyone. However... familiar and friendly faces are more than helpful. [ she offers a small smile. ] And I've often found non-blood relations to be just as strong as blood ties.

[ aka friends can be closer than family. ]

Yes, I do feel very close to Suzaku. [She loved him. She still loves him, though she must think of it differently than she once did.] And I've made such good friends here too.

I'm glad to see you're doing well.

[ she means this with regard to their previous meetings. considering how they met, helen's just glad euphie seems to be handling everything all right. ]

Those are ties that should be kept.

[ says the one with issues outliving everyone she's ever known. ]

Thank you. I agree.

Do you stay with anyone here? I mean as a roommate. [She has found a lot of solace in hers.]

Not at the moment, no. I have a friend I'm close to [ both in the sense of knowing him very well and living nearby ] but no one I'm currently living with.

[ it's actually more lonely than she's willing to admit. it reminds her far too much of that century+ she spent in "isolation," where she wasn't even living as herself.

isolation. the story of her life.

not that she'll ever admit it. ]

Did you think about moving in together? I'm sure it's not for everyone, but I think it's helpful. [She was not good on her own!]

[ she actually legitimately almost chokes at that. the idea of living with nikola is... well, in a place like this it's... she honestly doesn't have words. her feelings towards him are complicated and she doesn't want to put words to them. not yet. maybe not ever. ]

I don't think that would be such a good idea. We're best left to our own devices.

[ better as friends, not roommates. ]

Perhaps so. There are extra bedrooms with those I stay with. [She would need to ask them of course.]

[ helen's expression softens just slightly. she appreciates the offer, even if she can't take it. ]

It's all right. I don't mind and I think I might do better alone for now.

I see no reason why we can't. Until then.

[ and with a smile and a firm nod, she'll end the conversation there. ]
