day 226 video; / action;
I was thinking back to the handful of days I've spent here and how I've been spending them. It got me to wondering. I've been keeping track of the days, how long I've spent here and I wanted to know if there's anyone else here who keeps track of the day it would be back home. This is, of course, assuming that the way the wardens keep track of time is the exact same as in your home worlds.

[ She looks thoughtful. ] This place seems to operate on exactly the same number of hours and minutes, though the days don't seem to be much different. No weekends off, for instance. [ That's a joke, people. ] I was simply curious if anyone else had thought about it or if I was simply the odd man out. Today would be November 5 for me. Rather odd, having Christmas in November, though I suppose it could always be worse. We could be moved to a new location on Halloween.

[ For the record, that totally happened. They were moved to Squall on the day that would have been Halloween in her world. The irony was not lost on her.

Action: Today she'll be spending time in various places. The clinic will see her the most, but she will also take a little time to wander around the snow-covered lanes to see if she can find a handful of people among the drifts. Everyone she's met in-person will receive a small card with various good wishes written on the inside in her neat, precise handwriting. For some, she has more:

Euphemia li Britannia - "I do hope the holiday, whatever it means to you, is a good one. Perhaps in the future, you and I can become better acquainted. Until then, I should hope you remain well. Yours, as ever, Helen Magnus"

Jean-Luc Picard - "I've enjoyed our conversations so far. Perhaps the future will hold more. Helen"

Martha Jones - "Take the day off, if you weren't already planning to. Dr. Magnus"

Rebekah - A light blue scarf that will go well with her hair and a note: "I hope all is well with you. Helen"

Rose (TVD) - "The answer to your question is, 'It's a genetic mutation: longevity.' Any other questions?"

It occurs to her that she doesn't know where most of them are, but that's never deterred her before. ]

Today would be January 1 for me, actually.

A little closer to December at any rate. [ slightly less of a time difference. ] Good to know I'm not the only who likes keeping track of things.

[ the truth is she has control issues and likes to know absolutely everything she can. she keeps track of the little things. ]

Have you been counting the days for a while?

Yeah. I like to keep track, even if it's ultimately pointless. [ Gotta know when his friends' birthdays are! ]

It also offers an invaluable way to tell how much time has really passed. It's difficult to keep track of just by numbering the days. At least with dates, one can tell just how long it's been.

Yeah, counting in months really gets across how fuckin' long it's been.

[ he's glad she didn't opt to send him anything, for he likely wouldn't have received it well. nikola's not a ~holidays~ person; never has been, never will be. in this instance, the true meaning of friendship is not giving someone who wouldn't appreciate it a christmas present. thank you, helen. your lack of sentiment means the world to him. ]

And it would be June for me. It's as if all those annoying Christmas in July specials are airing a month too early.

[ that was precisely why she didn't. she knows his feelings on the subject and he knows she doesn't particularly do holidays anymore, especially after ashley's death. even more so now that she's relived half of her life over. ]

Don't tell me you're tired of the snow already. [ yes, she's teasing him. ] With any luck, it'll all be gone soon.

[Having found the note under her door, Martha read it and felt an instant moment of panic. After calming herself down, she dialed Helen up.]

Honestly, I really don't mind working today.

Perhaps a half day. I don't usually take time off, you'll find [ one of these days helen or nikola should probably warn martha that she might find helen at the clinic at late hours if her mind won't allow her to sleep. ] but I've a few errands to attend at the moment and I've no way of knowing how long they'll take.

[Euphie looks thoughtful.] I suppose I did at first. It was September in my world when I came here. My birthday is in October. I think I missed the exact day, but we did celebrate it. That was months ago. I suppose I've lost track. It gets easier to remember the prison day of arrival.

I suppose it would be easier to keep track of the prison days. I happen to be one of those people who likes to keep track of everything. It's easier for me to tell exactly how much time has passed if I keep up with the exact date it should be.

I find it helps pass the days, once you're certain of how many have actually gone by.

I would also imagine it's nice having family here with you.

[ nice and also not at the same time. it's a duality, as is most of helen's life. ]

I did for quite a bit after my arrival, but some strange things occurred that left me wondering if it was worth the trouble.

[Not that counting days was trouble for an Innovade mind to do and keep track of, but everything that went along with it and the inconsistencies of others from his world and the strange memory changes between them all had left him baffled and unable to even try figuring it all out.

Thinking outside the box wasn't one of Tieria's strong points. He tended to be fairly linear and logical in his approach to such things as time.]

What sort of strange things, if you don't mind my asking?

[ considering she's 113 years separate from nikola, she understands that one. even so, she knows she'll need to have a good sense of time, rather than the simple day count made by the wardens. it might be some small big relation to her control issues, but it exists. ]

Memory differences, mostly. Like we had been from different times. And how that 'time' changed upon disappearances and reappearances. Sometimes, they would remember being here, and sometimes not. And then there were these instances where new memories were spontaneously brought on, as if the person had gone home, when in truth they had never left.

[Though, that last part, Tieria had wondered if it had been related to his attempt to hack the dimensional stabilizer, as the timing had been rather coincidental.]

Almost as though this dimensional stabilizer relies on memory and time.

[ strange, but she isn't going to change her habits yet. she'll have to keep a closer eye on nikola, though, and likely herself. she remembers rebekah complaining of memories suddenly being implanted upon her. if that could happen to anyone, it would be something to keep in mind. ]

Something to be aware of.
