[Caroline comes on camera, she's at the Blood Shack. Seriously, what's the point of really hiding it anymore? She's a vampire, if people figure it out, they figure it out. But for now, nothing she does really screams I'M A VAMPIRE. Her thoughts have turned darker as of late but somehow she manages to ask this in her usual perky tone--]

So my fellow prisoners, question. If you had only a few days left to live or something what would do with that time? What's your, like, 'My last day on Earth or in Marnia' bucket list?

[ yeah, the one thing you don't call caroline forbes is shallow, it's the thing that hurts her the most. beyond calling her a monster. she doesn't want to be that girl anymore, she's tried so hard. and now she feels a tiny bit bad for tattling but she's trying to defend herself against elena who wants to know why they're fighting.

she just sighs.] Because we were fighting because I don't like Rebekah. I know you guys like her but I don't. I'm never going to trust her.

[ she knows that caroline tattled for a reason. she knows it was to defend herself, and because caroline feels like she has to. (because she has felt shallow all her life; elena's witnessed it, nearly every moment caroline has strived to be more and better.

elena doesn't think she's shallow. it's too mean a description. caroline can be flippant and easily hurt. she doesn't think those are necessarily bad things, even if caroline has irritated and confounded her sometimes with her behavior.) ] Caroline, I never said that I liked her, or I trusted her. [ elena's not blind; she knows caroline isn't either.

it's time to be honest about how she feels. caroline was with her, about stefan ] Maybe I - I do feel like we have things in common. And maybe she can be trustworthy... But it's better to bring her into the fold than to keep her out. Especially because of Klaus.

Fine, you want the truth? Here it is. Yeah, she tried to kill me and she does succeed in killing Elena. But, she also saved my life and that of others, one of which she probably would've been perfectly okay with leaving for dead, [ you, caroline ] but she didn't. She's apologized and she's trying. How is someone supposed to become a better person, unless someone's willing to cut her a little slack and be little supportive instead of just expecting the worst out her all the time?

And maybe I have been kind of a dick with the whole secrecy thing, but maybe I need to be in order to save you two from yourselves.

[ elena's not even going to touch on "save you two from yourselves." {it hurts her some, but she understands it. it doesn't mean she agrees, but she knows matt wouldn't keep things from them unless he truly believed he was protecting them.

elena's never wanted to be saved.

She's not going to want to trust somebody that's hurt us. I believe you; I don't think Rebekah's a bad person. At least she's capable of choosing not to do bad things...

It's not about Rebekah. It's about me, and trusting me and my choices. I get it, you guys have a lot of reasons not to trust her and I was right there with you up until-- [ sigh, he can't say. ] You don't trust her, but I do. I know what I'm doing.

[ he feels like such an asshole right now, and can't help but wonder if this is the same sort of tormented, bad but doing it for their own good kind of thing they were dealing with the whole time they were lying to him... ]

[ it's not that elena doesn't understand about needing to be trusted. about needing your choices respected. about knowing what you're doing, and having your own reasons. (it's not what she's arguing, if she were arguing at all.)

she presses her lips together, looks at him with as much understanding, shared pain - and knowing. because what says he says next - it's confirmation. confirmation of what she felt yesterday, confirmation there's plenty he's not saying. (she doesn't want him to have to feel this way.)

asking her not to push it; it's not something matt would insist, knowing her, knowing how she feels about honesty and knowing what she'll do to find answers - unless it was something important. and she wishes that doesn't make it all the more important to her. ] Matt, I'm - I'm not going to push you. [ she means it. she wouldn't do that. (she also doesn't know if she can let it go completely.) ]
