But for now, nothing she does really screams I'M A VAMPIRE. Her thoughts have turned darker as of late but somehow she manages to ask this in her usual perky tone--]

No! I'm [ airquotes! ] "dead," not in the closet. Difference. I don't think the US Government would flip out if I were merely gay -- though that bit of ludicrous might actually get me into the history books for all the wrong reasons, but what can you do when you're living in a post-No Child Left Behind world?
