[Caroline comes on camera, she's at the Blood Shack. Seriously, what's the point of really hiding it anymore? She's a vampire, if people figure it out, they figure it out. But for now, nothing she does really screams I'M A VAMPIRE. Her thoughts have turned darker as of late but somehow she manages to ask this in her usual perky tone--]

So my fellow prisoners, question. If you had only a few days left to live or something what would do with that time? What's your, like, 'My last day on Earth or in Marnia' bucket list?

[ the moment caroline mentions stefan's name, elena know what this is about. maybe she knew - suspected - about it before she said a word. her expression was calm and controlled, and now it's not much different.

she's not sure what she feels about it. (loss, jealousy, longing, sadness and grief, somehow manages selfless compassion and happiness for them both.) she cares about stefan. she cares about him a lot. she loves him, loved him; he means more to her than she can say. so does caroline. her best friend. her throat feels thick, but she somehow finds herself nodding and answering as caroline finishes up. (it's over between her and stefan. if there's anyone she'd feel good about him being with...) ] I know. [ a part of her had planned to say this. ] And I get it, Caroline; I'm not mad. [ she's been plenty confused too.

she pauses; some of the blankness of her expression relents. she wants to be there for caroline. ] You can talk to me about it.

[ caroline's mouth twists because while she expected anger or perhaps something akin to sadness, did she really expect that from elena? elena has always been understanding, she's always been the better of the two of them, less petty, more selfless. which only makes her feel even more guilty about all of this.]

I've been unfair to you. [ about damon. because now she really gets it, how you can't help how you feel for someone. matt was easier somehow, especially because elena had already moved on from him, since elena broke up with him, not the other way around.

stefan and elena. it's... messy. ] I'm really sorry, Elena. [ it just happened.] A part of me wishes you were mad just because... I feel like the worst friend right now.

[ she is sad, something akin to it. maybe something more bittersweet. it really is over with stefan; she's known and felt it, but moving on still feels like another step to letting go. it's a mixed bag.

she pulls in a breath of protest when caroline says she's been unfair - because caroline's been right; her feelings have bene just as valid as hers has been. holds it until caroline's finished. ] No, you're not being a bad friend. I'm glad you told me. [ she almost smiles in reassurance; it's strained somewhat. ] I want you and Stefan to be happy, with whoever... [ whoever will make them happy. ]

I'm not gonna be mad at you. It's okay.

[ elena's felt sometimes that caroline has been unfair. not for being hurt or angry, but... because elena's felt she hasn't understood or wanted to try. sometimes everything about it ate her up inside; she thinks it's been similar for caroline. (not being understood by her best friend, being more or less resented...)

her eyes fill with silent tears. she nods her understanding. ]
