Day 223; ☤ Open | Voice/Action
[Calliope clears her throat. The arcade's first-floor cacophony can be heard in the background, though muffled. Even though she sounds like Caliborn, she's so very much kinder and warmer.]

Sooo... This is "Callie"! Thank you to everyone who donated or traded your chocolate to me while we were at the other place, and to those of you who offered me kind words. I hope everyone is alright, and made it back safely! [Though she hasn't heard from Roxy.]

... on that note, has anyone else noticed bruises and the sort being in different places than they were yesterday? It's rather peculiar...

Um, but, anyway. [She sounds a bit more nervous, now, voice a bit shaky and laugh with an edge of giggle on it.] It's not as though there's currency worry about, but if anyone would like to be repaid in kind and company, I'm on the second floor of the Arcade with some snacks. It's the one with the tables and the card and board games.

Maybe we could also play something together? Oh- and we can also go to one of the other floors, if anyone prefers a different game! This just seemed the most fitting place to start at, with the candy and soda...

[Calliope really wants to spend time with everyone and anyone.]

[This is a bigger deal to her than it may be for most; she's so convinced of her own horrific monsterly-ness that she feels like asking people to spend time with her is imposing. Part of her doesn't even expect anyone to respond or show up, beyond maybe her friends from home. Still, after she learned about Caliborn's little frypan rampage and constant attempts at upsetting people, she feels a need to try and cement herself as the green-eyed cherub who just wants to make friends.]

[That is why, true to her word, Calliope is camping out at one of the game tables. She's wearing a hoodie tugged up to somewhat disguise her appearance, but she's on the lookout for people who appear to be looking for her. There are long moments of keeping busy by shuffling skills and snacking on her small assorted collection of candy, too.]

[And, before she tries to put it off any longer...]

[Private | Filtered to Aradia]

Umm. Hello, dear. Would you like to, ah... [She trails off, realizing there are approximately two dozen ways to end that sentence, and she can't pick one.]

Yeah, if you lived in the desert. [He has to think a bit before he makes his move.]

No, I'm all by myself. It's been a while for me to settle in. A lot of people here seem to think I'm not real or they're seeing things...

You certainly seem real to me! [She fidgets, and takes another bite of tootsie roll.]

Is it because of your resemblance to Earth horses?

[There we go! He moves it with his magic so he doesn't jostle the other pieces with his hoof.] Something about being a unicorn, I think. I guess they're not used to ponies talking.

Ohhh.

You're the very first unicorn or pony that I've met! I've seen pictures, but they were all of fictional characters in stories.

[Which, honestly, isn't a deterrent for her in seeing someone also as a real person.]

And I've never seen anypony like you before. So it's something new for both of us! [Smile!]

"Anypony"...

[That is so, so cute and odd. Calliope appreciates that.]

... Something new, indeed! I'd honestly be surprised if you had ever seen someone like me. My kind typically leads a solitary life.

Yeah that's just something we say at home...

So you're not human?

[Calliope blinks at him, slowly and confused.]

No...

I can't say I've ever been confused for one before. They're- quite a separate species in nearly every regard.

[Looks a little abashed.] Well, ponies come in lots of different colors and some of them look a lot different than others, so...

Ohh. I see. It's the bipedal locomotion, isn't it?

[She gives him a small smile, kind although a bit embarrassed on his behalf.]

Humans are the ones with the softer skin, in the pink-to-brown range. Their hair comes in all sorts of shades, their teeth are mostly flat with a few pointy ones, and their ears are rounded.

And the grey people with the horns? [TELL HIM ALL YOU KNOW ABOUT TROLLS, CALLIE. THIS IS THE DAY YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR]

[In the landscape of her heart, the giant red sun has just hit its apex in the sky.]

[Which is like saying the sun just rose, only it's hard to say that when it's just kinda omnipresent.]

[Anyway, her expression lights up, as a result.]

They are called "trolls." They're a fantastic race, you know! They may share those physical trait universally, but they have an enormous amount of diversity in blood color and psychic ability! And blood color is very important. Their various cultural iterations share the "hemocaste," which means that their blood color represents their place in society.

For the Alterian trolls, this can mean that the "lowbloods," as they're called, are seen as lesser, while the "highbloods" are royalty meant to be served. For Beforus trolls, it's somewhat the opposite; highbloods, with their long life-spans, spend their lives caring for the lowbloods, whom have much shorter lifespans. It's a very sweet arrangement, especially in comparison, and interesting to see how two different cultures can spring from the same essential species!

[Pause for breath.]

[He frowns a bit. As well as a horse can frown.] Royalty is supposed to protect those they govern, not be served by them. [He should know.]

[Calliope nods in agreement. She definitely likes that arrangement better.]

You'd very much get along with the Beforian royalty, in that case! The longest-lived caste, the fushia-bloods, produces their kind's Empresses. The Empress spends a thousand years of her life caring for those below her with the utmost vigilance and care. She retires once her predecessor becomes old enough to take her place.

[Or possibly kills her. She's a bit unclear on that particular part of Beforian practices.]

Princess Celestia has ruled for longer than that... [Just idly pondering.]

Where I come from, you can only become a princess because of the character of your heart. [Or possibly due to heredity.]

Oh, hum! That's certainly an interesting way of doing things. Much more about will and spirit than anything, I presume?

I've only heard of being born into it.

[She decides not to mention that she is also a princess. That seems needlessly self-indulgent.]

[Him, likewise. He married into it, anyway.]

Yeah, something like that. I don't know the specifics.
