Day 223; ☤ Open | Voice/Action
[Calliope clears her throat. The arcade's first-floor cacophony can be heard in the background, though muffled. Even though she sounds like Caliborn, she's so very much kinder and warmer.]

Sooo... This is "Callie"! Thank you to everyone who donated or traded your chocolate to me while we were at the other place, and to those of you who offered me kind words. I hope everyone is alright, and made it back safely! [Though she hasn't heard from Roxy.]

... on that note, has anyone else noticed bruises and the sort being in different places than they were yesterday? It's rather peculiar...

Um, but, anyway. [She sounds a bit more nervous, now, voice a bit shaky and laugh with an edge of giggle on it.] It's not as though there's currency worry about, but if anyone would like to be repaid in kind and company, I'm on the second floor of the Arcade with some snacks. It's the one with the tables and the card and board games.

Maybe we could also play something together? Oh- and we can also go to one of the other floors, if anyone prefers a different game! This just seemed the most fitting place to start at, with the candy and soda...

[Calliope really wants to spend time with everyone and anyone.]

[This is a bigger deal to her than it may be for most; she's so convinced of her own horrific monsterly-ness that she feels like asking people to spend time with her is imposing. Part of her doesn't even expect anyone to respond or show up, beyond maybe her friends from home. Still, after she learned about Caliborn's little frypan rampage and constant attempts at upsetting people, she feels a need to try and cement herself as the green-eyed cherub who just wants to make friends.]

[That is why, true to her word, Calliope is camping out at one of the game tables. She's wearing a hoodie tugged up to somewhat disguise her appearance, but she's on the lookout for people who appear to be looking for her. There are long moments of keeping busy by shuffling skills and snacking on her small assorted collection of candy, too.]

[And, before she tries to put it off any longer...]

[Private | Filtered to Aradia]

Umm. Hello, dear. Would you like to, ah... [She trails off, realizing there are approximately two dozen ways to end that sentence, and she can't pick one.]

Yeah. [She rubs at one of her cheekbones, mildly frustrated. Not with Dirk, but with their situation. Still, she's trying not to vent too much.]

We should be locked away somewhere, where he can't hurt anyone. [At least until she can persuade him to behave, to cooperate, to be a little less awful.]

Why the plural? It should be enough to lock yourself up when you go to sleep, and have someone let you out when you wake up.

[She shakes her head.]

That's bound to backfire. He says that someone knows his name, and is willing to use it against me if need be.

I don't mind being alone, anyway.

[ How does somebody know his name? After he called Dirk a name-stealing slut, even! ]

...I don't like it.

[If Calliope knew why someone has his name, she would be vastly more frantic.]

I know. But there's no reason to pity me. My kind is meant to be alone, by our very nature. It's not as though I would struggle in the same way you and Roxy have.

Um. Right.

[ Struggle? Him? He thinks maybe she's misunderstood a few things, but that's not the point here. ]

Just seems kind of shitty to make you suffer because he's a douchebag.

Hopefully, in time, there won't be as much of a struggle to deal with.

But for now, this is all I can think of doing. I... [She shifts, clearly uncomfortable and a little ashamed as she casts her eyes down.]

I already had to resort to telling someone my name. I'm not proud of it.

[ He actually looks a bit surprised. ]

Hey, it's only fair if someone else knows his name. Gotta keep on even ground.

But you really think he'll chill out with time?

[Calliope interprets his surprise in a very bad way, burying her face in her hands.]

[Her life feels like such a mess right now, and she's racked with guilt and angst over decisions she feels like she has been forced to make in order to maintain survival, rather than just in the name of keeping the game going.]

I don't know. I have to assume he will.

With all the work I put into being a good influence over him, surely something will sink in eventually...

He's pretty fuckin' incorrigible.

How do cherubs usually reconcile shit like this? If you know.

[Calliope pauses and side-glances at him from under her hands. Immediately, she starts trying to think of all kinds of ways to side-step potential issues.]

What... do you mean, exactly?

With not getting along with each other.

...or are you and him a special case? I was just assuming the dual personality thing is normal.

[Calliope freezes, trying to think of a very good, smooth, easy response.]

[Instead, she just starts laughing really, really awkwardly.]

Well, you see, the thing about that is, ah-

[Quickly.] Say, have you heard from Roxy?

Ah... [Calliope frowns, and PROMPTLY CONTINUES DODGING THE QUESTION.]

As in, I may not see her again?

[ Dammit he does not want to talk about that ]

[Calliope does not want to talk about being a cherub even more than she doesn't want to talk about the stabilizer.]

Why can't they warn us, at the very least? I would have liked a chance to say goodbye.

[She folds her arms on the table, and lays her head down.]

It's wrong to want her to come back, isn't it?

[info]smuppeteer

Not really. She's not at home, so the difference is between her being here and awake, and somewhere vague and undefined and asleep.

Ah...

[It's strangely both discomforting and settling to think of it that way.]

[Instead of sitting up again, she just shifts her head and looks up at him from the mess of fabric that is her hoodie.]

I hope she does, then.

In the meantime, would you like some candy?

[That makes her feel a little better, somehow.]

[Which is what she needs, in the mood she's in.]

Dirk, may I ask you something personal?

I've wanted to ask for a long time, but it seemed rather presumptuous. It still does, but I'm hoping that you'd be more comfortable now that you've had, um, some time.
