day 223: video;
[ she's actually using the video feature for this post and she's looking... well, what can be seen of her doesn't look great, but neither does it look awful. her arms aren't visible, which is probably for the best, and her cheeks are almost healed. thank goodness for superficial and quickly-healed injuries. either that or she's at just the right angle that it's difficult to see. for those who have run into her lately, she looks almost pleasant and she certainly sounds much better than she did a few days ago. ]

For those who may be interested, Sector 3 now has a medical clinic. It won't replace the hospital, by any means, but I thought, under the circumstances, there might be others like myself who would feel better being cared for by a fellow inmate.

[ at least she knows she'll feel better with it here. ]

I've only received permission to deal with small things, so consider it more of a nurse's station and less a doctor's office. However... [ here she gives a slight pause. this is where things will get interesting. ] I assure you that I am more than capable of handling anything necessary. My experience covers everything from papercuts to burns to complex neurological surgeries and I can take care of any species that walks across the threshold, be it human or something else entirely.

[ she means that, actually. ]

In light of that, I would also like to offer informal lessons. If you'd like to offer assistance or simply want to know more about medicine from the late 1800's to 2011, by all means. I would welcome the company.

Good day to all of you.

[ ooc: info post is here for anyone interested. ]

[Yuuri smiles a soft kind of smile as he turns on the feed. He's a little thoughtful and reflective at the thought of this clinic.] Julia started a clinic once back in the old prison. [Which is part of a rather complicated set of reasoning that leads to...]

Um...I'd like to help if I can.

[ ah, yes, she remembers him and their talk from when she first arrived. she offers him a warm smile now. ]

Absolutely. I would love both the company and help, if you've the time to spare.

I do! I mean, it's not like we really have a lot to do in here anyway. I do have baseball practices and games which you should come to! Do you like to play?

Baseball never particularly caught my interest. I can follow along with it well enough, but I suppose sports were never my idea of a good time.

[ she gives him a slightly apologetic smile at that. ]

Admittedly, I was always the one buried in her studies, so take that as you will.

[You say such hurtful things. He looks appropriately DEVASTATED disappointed.] Well, I guess you can just come to the games then. [You're welcome.]

If you're trying to teach an old woman new tricks, keep at it. It may yet be possible.

[ aw, don't look so upset. she's at least admitting that she might not yet be too old to learn to enjoy things she previously didn't. she's just... never had time to enjoy things like that before, so she never learned how. ]

You don't seem old. [From the look of her she may be one of the oldest inmates appearance wise, but that would hardly be nice to point out! He's also kind of used to people being older than they looked. Ulrike looked younger than him, but she was over 800 years old.] But I will keep at it! I'm sure you'll like it if you give it another try!

Looks can be deceiving. [ she's been giving that response a lot, it seems. regardless, her lips twist into an amused smile. ] Perhaps so, particularly if I have someone to watch while I'm there. [ or someone to go with. ]

Mmm, they can. My friend, Wolfram, looks my age, but he's in his 80s. Conrad is like that too except he looks older. Ulrike looks younger and she's the oldest of them all. [Don't mind him just rattling off names you don't know.]

[ she'll just quietly file those names away, though. don't mind her. ]

Then you should be quite used to age and looks not always coinciding.

[ one of these days she may admit her age the one she's passing herself off as. or he could just keep needling her now. ]

[No minding at all.] I guess so. [He smiles a little.]

Are yours like that? I mean are you older than you look? [Should he ask a lady that?]

[ well he's being more polite about it than others might be so... she supposes she can humor him. just this once. ]

Last time I checked, humans don't appear like this when they've aged past 160.

[ which either means she's 160 or older. take it as you will. ]

Uh, no, they don't! [He looks curious with a side of confused and thoughtful. It's not over the age though. Like he said, he gets that. It's just everyone he knows who looks deceptively young is also not exactly or fully human either. She said human, so he'll assume she is at least partly human though.] Are you a half demon too?

No. I'm entirely human.

[ though she doesn't seem to mind that he asked. she's human... just a special human with a mutated abnormal genetic structure. ]

Do all humans where you're from live that long?

[info]lifelines

Some have.

[ this is a bit of a lie. nikola's the exception, but seeing as he's trying to pass for a human with longevity like helen, she's going to run with it. ]

Does everyone get along? I mean the humans that live a long time and the ones who don't. [Thinking of his own home even if it is humans and demons, but the length of life and powers were the only real differences he could see.]

There aren't many of us. It really depends on the person involved.

[ some people can accept abnormals. some can't. some abnormals can't live harmoniously with humans. it's all a matter of perspective. ]

[He can understand that answer, but he's still a little disappointed. He'd been hopeful after all.] Oh.

Have there been wars?

A good many, yes. Also something I have been trying to prevent. I'm not quite a fan of war or needless violence.

They aren't good things to be a fan of. People get hurt...or more than hurt. [His previous life died that way you know.]
