day 223: video;
[ she's actually using the video feature for this post and she's looking... well, what can be seen of her doesn't look great, but neither does it look awful. her arms aren't visible, which is probably for the best, and her cheeks are almost healed. thank goodness for superficial and quickly-healed injuries. either that or she's at just the right angle that it's difficult to see. for those who have run into her lately, she looks almost pleasant and she certainly sounds much better than she did a few days ago. ]

For those who may be interested, Sector 3 now has a medical clinic. It won't replace the hospital, by any means, but I thought, under the circumstances, there might be others like myself who would feel better being cared for by a fellow inmate.

[ at least she knows she'll feel better with it here. ]

I've only received permission to deal with small things, so consider it more of a nurse's station and less a doctor's office. However... [ here she gives a slight pause. this is where things will get interesting. ] I assure you that I am more than capable of handling anything necessary. My experience covers everything from papercuts to burns to complex neurological surgeries and I can take care of any species that walks across the threshold, be it human or something else entirely.

[ she means that, actually. ]

In light of that, I would also like to offer informal lessons. If you'd like to offer assistance or simply want to know more about medicine from the late 1800's to 2011, by all means. I would welcome the company.

Good day to all of you.

[ ooc: info post is here for anyone interested. ]

Right. Yet the first time you need an assistant with a steady hand and ample medical knowledge... [ a look. he knows you too well, helen. ] Just because I studied medicine for a while doesn't mean I want to actively practice it.

You won't be actively practicing it. [ she's just going to give him an eyeroll. she's uptight today, as he should be aware of. ] Instead of chastising me, why don't we both hope I never do need your "steady hand?"

[ oh, he's aware! which is all the more reason to troll the crap out of her, obviously. ]

Unless you do. [ ...and make with the innuendos. ]

[ he's getting a look for that one. it's been too long since she's been around him consistently. ]

Focus, Nikola. We're talking medical supplies. [ not how much he might wish she needed that "steady hand."

You're toeing a mighty fine line, Helen.

[ back on topic, because she ought to know that he is oh so well aware of the fact that she will likely not be playing by the wardens' rules in this little endeavor of hers. someone's going to make thing 1 and thing 2 very angry in the near future. he'd bet some of his patents on it. ]

[ she raises her eyebrows at him. they're both aware of this fact, yes, but she has to play dumb for a while. ]

Am I? I was under the impression I was doing the community a favor.

Call it what you wish, but remember this is me you're talking to.

Are you suggesting I keep toeing that line or step fully over it?

[ yes and he knows full well he'll have to make the choice to help her or ignore her when she finally does step over that line. it's only a matter of time before it becomes an issue and they both know it. ]

You really want to give me the responsibility of making that decision?

[ though they both knew that however reckless he could be, when it came down to it, he could keep a head cooler than anyone else's and make the rational, need-to-be-made calls that others couldn't. ]

No. I was only curious to see if you had a suggestion. Advice, if you will.
