Day 223: Video Closed to Jack, Sam, and Oz
[Private to Jack] [Martha's been keeping her distance from Jack, and aside from the panic of the tentacles and moving prisons, she's seen very little of him. Right now she's making sure he's OK. And reaching out to let him know she's ready to talk if he wants.]

I didn't see you at the other prison. Just wanted to make sure you're still around. I haven't seen you much other than Defense duties. Are you holding up all right?

[Private to Sam] [She never actually told him she solved her werewolf problem and that he probably should stop looking.]

Hi Sam. I just wanted to make sure you made it through the previous few days all right. Also, I should let you know I met the werewolf who attacked me. In human form. And yeah... you don't need to go looking into it for me anymore.

Private to Oz] [Now that she knows what he is, and now that she's still working through her fear of him, Martha also wants to keep up on Oz and make sure he's OK.]

You handling all the random changes OK?

	He has a point. Still. "I don't know. I found it easier at UNIT. Granted, I'm fairly certain you had way more encounters than we did. And ours always involved me getting in a pretty wicked row with the chief. Travel with the Doctor was much easier. On the days he remembered how to fly properly, we had some nice relaxing spells between imminent demise." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Occasionally yes. Surprising though, I know. Of course I'm sure she has a mind of her own. And I suspect the two of them fight quite often. "Oh, she definitely does that," Jack confirms comfortably. "After all, he doesn't really have a clue where he's aiming, most of the time. Someone has to take control! Hell, even when she was apparently running away from me-" something he takes with a very large pinch of salt "-she managed to take us right to the Master. Which... may not have been a good thing, really, but there's no way you can say it was actually random!"

"We knew there was someone out there. The F.... a friend told us something when we were on New Earth. I think she was probably looking for whomever it was. Just didn't know it was... him."

Martha wasn't a fan of discussing finding the Master. She'd been the one to release him from his human life, and it still weighed on her when she thought about it. And she wasn't about to reveal that a creature called the Face of Boe was the one who told them.

He caught the stumble over words, but thought nothing of it, just assumed that whatever it was was something painful for her. He was also kicking himself for bringing up the subject of the Master at all. He’d had a bad time himself at the hands of the Master, but he’d been far better prepared for it than Martha. If he could have gone back in time to have saved Martha all that, he would have done.

“Maybe after that disaster, the TARDIS will have learned that we’re better for the Doctor than he is, eh?” he said, giving her an affectionate squeeze. “After all, she doesn’t seem to have tried to run from me since! Well, unless dumping the Doctor here is her way of doing that! You know he’s here again, right?”

Martha has no idea if she would do it again or not. She suspects so because honestly, she wouldn't be who she was had she not gone through it all. Though maybe she would have done things differently with Tom.

"Yeah, I met him. Bit different than the old one. His hair's not so fabulous."

She smiles as she says it.

"Easier not to fall for him like this. I miss that coat though."

“Oh, I don’t know, the new hair looked pretty good over the intercom! I agree about the coat though!

“So you actually went to meet him?” He can’t help the faint note of envy in his voice. “He didn’t really seem interested in meeting up, to me. Though I guess, new place, lots to see – he’s hardly going to want to stay still long enough for that! Maybe in a few days, when he’s got bored of investigating the place?”

Jack gave a secretive grin. “Oh, there’s a lot that’s not in the files, you know. I tried especially hard not to let any references to myself get in there. Got experimented on by Torchwood in their early days and really didn’t want to get UNIT in on the act too!

“That’s not to say I didn’t snoop around UNIT myself, though, trying to get a glimpse of him. I knew better than to try and actually meet him, but that didn’t stop me wanting to get a look at him. I managed a look at a couple of his incarnations that way.”

He thought about that for a moment. He didn't know of all the Doctor's past companions, not by any means, but there were a few he was aware of.

"I know Jo Grant choose to leave him," he offered, because in the end she was the only one he could think of. "I don't know if you've heard of her - she worked with him at UNIT in the 70s, but she met a cute Welsh guy on one of their adventures and chose to stay with him. Far as I know, she settled down quite well - even has a grandchild or two now!"

Martha smiled at the thought though it did bother her that Jack was only able to pull one name out of the hat. Of course, he didn't know all of the past companions. The Doctor was hardly one to spill anything about his life without coercion. Still, she wondered how many people made it out before they were forced out, left behind, or simply damaged beyond repair.

Which is not any sort of good thinking. She leans her head against Jack's shoulder, finding it quite easy to sit there like that.

"What have you been doing lately... besides Ianto?" she asked a little too innocently. He can't see the devilish smile she has but she hasn't seen him lately and she would like to know what his life has been like.

Jack was, quite frankly, content to sit there holding her for as long as she wanted him to. He still wasn't quite up to his old level of comfort with her (though the awkwardness was definitely waning the more they talked) but she was still one of his favourite people and their shared memories would always make him feel close to her.

He chuckled at the way she phrased her question. "Aw, spoilsport, you said my line for me!" he pretended to pout. "Let me see... Actually, not a lot. We've been pretty much wrapped up in each other lately. I've been to some of the classes, you know the ones Sam and Reid hold? And that Investigative Team meeting. Nothing that exciting though, I'm afraid! How about you?"

((OOC: Sorry! I wasn't around much in May/June so Jack had a very quiet few days apart from the tentacle business!))
