Day 223: Video Closed to Jack, Sam, and Oz
[Private to Jack] [Martha's been keeping her distance from Jack, and aside from the panic of the tentacles and moving prisons, she's seen very little of him. Right now she's making sure he's OK. And reaching out to let him know she's ready to talk if he wants.]

I didn't see you at the other prison. Just wanted to make sure you're still around. I haven't seen you much other than Defense duties. Are you holding up all right?

[Private to Sam] [She never actually told him she solved her werewolf problem and that he probably should stop looking.]

Hi Sam. I just wanted to make sure you made it through the previous few days all right. Also, I should let you know I met the werewolf who attacked me. In human form. And yeah... you don't need to go looking into it for me anymore.

Private to Oz] [Now that she knows what he is, and now that she's still working through her fear of him, Martha also wants to keep up on Oz and make sure he's OK.]

You handling all the random changes OK?

[Jack's been... not exactly keeping his distance, not deliberately. He's just been very caught up in Ianto following certain discoveries that he very much owes to Martha. So when she calls him, he responds pretty promptly, with an easy smile.]

Hey there, how's my favourite girl? I'm good. Well, you know, as good as can be after a couple of days in weird shit land. You okay?

Wouldn't surprise me. That or it's their way of clearly hoping we won't do something stupid like rebel. You know, let the inmates think they have lots of freedom and they'll be happy. Cause not many people seemed happy at Squall.

But then again, Squall seemed to run on the same principle as Japan. Keep the prisoners working and they'll be too tired to do something.

Or maybe I've just been in more prisons than a normal person should be.

Nope. Not my first. [She laughs at the look he gives her before returning to the topic at hand.] It's a very long and very... ugly story. But to cut it short, while trying to stop one alien dictator from destroying the world, I ended up in another alien's prison on earth. We had to work from dawn until dusk making... circuit boards or something.

I'm not entirely sure. I just know that if you didn't, you were shot. And if you were next to someone who was shot, you were lucky to escape with just the butt of a gun to the side.

[She grimaces slightly as she says it but looks up alert again.]

Squall at least gave us some down time. And the food was better.

[He's surprised to hear from her willingly, without their being forced together. But he's glad for it too. Most people just slowly disappear from his life when confronted with the weirdness. So far, Martha hasn't, and that goes a long way with him.

He's there on the screen, in a bare room that can hardly be seen, and in a cage he and Xander, Buffy, Cordy and Faith had built together some time ago for occasions when his control over the wolf wasn't so steady. The cage can't be seen in the video, but he's been staying there since the night after the emotions event where he had lost it.]

[Martha's dealt with a lot of weirdness before; Oz being a werewolf is relatively minor all things considered. Granted, the wolf is scary. Terrifying even. But Martha wouldn't be who she is if she ran away from every terror she faced.]

[She rolls her shoulders and laughs.]

That was perhaps the wrong choice of work to do. But it wasn't any worse than the last prison camp I was in.

When I was leading the resistance. I was captured six months into my journey. After Tibet. We worked on assembly lines, and if you didn't do the work, or if you tried to sabotage it... well... the guy next to me was shot one day. And I was beaten for not reporting him.

[She makes a small grimace and shifts a bit. While he can't see it, her hand travels to her gut as she remembers the butt of the rifle in her stomach. And then it occurs to Martha that she is telling Oz more than she should. She smiles and looks back at him.]

We get much better food here and are allowed plenty of sleep.
