[ dinner mingle! ]
[After a hard day's work, it's time for dinner. And there's food a cookin' in the shared kitchens of Squall Asylum. It might even smell better than you'd expect, because a bunch of rations put together makes a little more than a few cold potatoes alone. And face it, with Lacus around making wine out of water (or as close to it as possible, judging by the "feast") it's bound to be a good time.

So take forth your delicious food and eat as a group. After all, social interaction's awesome. We may not have beaches to luau on but the same people are hanging out and ought to stay closely knit despite the circumstances. Be a recluse if you want to, but you won't get far eating plain rice alone. Join in!

Dinner consists of an assortment of simple dishes prepared by Lacus creatively despite ration restrictions. Some of the dishes offered include a rice and beans dish, cabbage stew, fried rice with the veggies, and a very simple carrot bread.

And for you folks who go to the dark side, there will be a chicken dish as well though Rebecca will be giving it and partakers of it slightly irritated side glances for a multitude of reasons.]

(OOC: So if you didn't hear on day 221 ('yesterday'), Rebecca had been cheerfully suggesting a ration-share program to make a lot of something out of a little nothing. Whether you responded or not, feel free to hand wave if your character joined in by donating some of their rations to be made into meals likely at the hands of talented chef Lacus.

This mingle is solely about day 222 dinner, but also feel free to hand wave that breakfast and lunch were similarly made for those who participated. And if you didn't participate? Well, feel free to crash & eat your own food with the group or sneak a few bites. There might not be tons to go around, but it's doubtful anyone will turn you down.

Notifs are off but I'll be surfing the post & Becks'll have her own post down below.)

Yeah, that could be a big problem... I can kinda make somethin' edible at least but it's hard when you don't got much to work with. [ Actually scratching the back of his neck. No shame! ]

Give me a kitchen full of food and I can make anything! Not always edible, but hey I'll still eat it so that has to count. [Richie will eat just about anything anyway. He may not have a huge appetite, but he's not picky.]

You really seem pretty chipper though. Things going good today?

Yeah, uh... I guess they are! It's just nice bein' busy, I suppose... I was goin' a little stir-crazy back there. Wasn't a whole lot to occupy my time.

[And he'd very much like to work himself to the bone, if he had the choice. ]

[Richie can definitely understand the stir-crazy feeling.] Man, I feel ya. Days can get pretty long back there if you can't find things to stay busy.

[He looks around a bit.] Not that I think I could stay here and do the same thing over and over without wanting to climb the walls either.

I don't know, I think it could be kinda nice. Routines, y'know? 's kinda what I'm used to from back home.

Not me, man. I'm too used to having things to work with. The lack of mp3 players alone will be enough to make me want to stage a rebellion after a week or two.

[But the fact Aidan looks so comfortable about it is interesting.] Is this really the way things are for you there? Being told what to do and when to do it all the time?

Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I grew up on a farm and if you slack off there, you won't have anythin' to eat over winter. Last few years I was workin' part-time jobs... dish washer, errand boy. Stuff like that. Wasn't nearly as hard as it was back home, but still kinda... people tellin' me what to do and when.

I, uh... I was in th' army for almost a year too. [ It's a little weird to talk about. Sudden memories usually are. ]

Army? Dude, that's like the ultimate "do what I tell you or everyone dies" job. No wonder you're used to it. I'm more of a freelance kind of guy myself. School's structured, but not that rigid. Usually.

Guess I'm just good with bein' a follower. Actually, it's kinda hard when I don't have someone around to tell me what I should be doin'... whole lotta time to fill, y'know?

I can kind of get that. It was weird when I first showed up and I didn't have my folks here to tell me when to sleep, when to get up for school, remind me to take the trash out. You expect structure and then it's gone, so...what do you do? [Richie moves to give him a friendly nudge there.] You just need to take more advantage of it to experience how much fun it can be to make those choices on your own.

[Richie on the other hand feels like there just isn't enough time in the day.]

Heh... it's been a long while since I had anyone tell me when to go to bed. [ Mostly because his parents expected him to take that responsibility himself when he was twelve. ] Guess the novelty wears off after a while.

[Richie's barely sixteen and if he didn't have a habit of being up until four or five, he'd probably do better about getting himself out of bed when he should...]

I think I'm getting the hang of it now. [A soft chuckle there.] Probably won't tell the folks that going to prison made me grow up and take care of myself.

Nah, I got a feelin' no parent would appreciate that... still, kinda wish I could send 'em a card or somethin'. Let 'em know I'm alright, in case my clone hasn't gone home yet.
