Day 219: Open Video
[Have a very angry looking Mal. He figures this is all Alliance tricks. Maybe drugs. He's not sure. But the tech definitely seems Alliance. Except for when he steps out and realizes he's underwater. That's pretty new, but he won't let them know how unsettling the whole thing is.]
Clearly I ain't dead, and I ain't dreamin' because I never seen orange in this color. Thought you took yer criminals an' stuck 'em in mines or other hard labor colonies. Hell, even if you did want me in prison, I seem to remember grey bein' a favorite color? 'Least that's what the good Doctor says.

But I suppose y'all are pleased to get him and his sister back. My only question is where's my coat. I know you had to take the gun away, but I want the coat back. And the pants too preferably. And if you just let me know where they are, and where Serenity is, I'll be on my way with my crew.

Ah, an actual, medical doctor, then? Not the guy I'm talking about.

What kind of ship did you have?

[Because of course small talk about space ships is what Mal wants to engage in right now. Jack's just intrigued. From Mal's look, he'd figured Mal'd have a horse rather than a ship.]

Y'all impounded it. Ain't hard to miss what type it is. My papers is all in order though mayhaps the name's a little wrong.

[Mal moves and groans just slightly before looking back up at the man.]

Just humor me... my crew. They make it? This looks like the doc's work, but for all I know one of yer lot patched me up. But I need to know, did my crew make it?

[If they're in the prison, that's OK. Well, not OK, but at least better than nothing. And then Zoe will be looked after too and they can formulate an escape. Mal'l figure something out. He always does.]

I’m sorry, I don’t know about your friends. There have been one or two transmissions from other new arrivals today, I think, but I don’t know if they’re your friends. Your headset has a memory, though, so you should be able to view them.

[A pause, in which Jack’s expression is definitely verging on sympathy.]

I’m not one of your captors, though. I’m just another one of the unlucky sods who got caught.

[Mal looks visibly relieved when Jack says he doesn't know about the crew. Perhaps they got away. And that would be good. Provided someone picked them both up. He laughs when Jack denies being a captor.]

Y'er too clean and groomed to be non-Alliance.

[He's really not obtuse. It's becoming clear to Mal that something is very wrong here. But Jack... Jack looks like an Alliance man. Minus the proper clothes. And Mal needs to cling to one shred of familiarity, even if it's an unpleasant one. Hell, he'd just talked to a Unicorn, though that had to be from drugs. Alliance meant he could get home.]

[Ironic eyebrows lifted.] I’m hardly the only clean and groomed person here. Are you suspicious of everyone else here?

[But there’s clearly more going on here, so he lets it go. Sort of.]

This Alliance you mention. I take it they’re not exactly well-loved?

((OOC: So sorry for bailing on you for so long. I think I’ve finally got my brain back now!))

I'm suspicious of everyone. Never know when you have a mole. And in my experience, more people don't care as long as they're allive. Granted, most people didn't fight against them in the war either.

And those dressed well and looking pretty tend to have enough Alliance money to stay groomed and looking pretty.

[OOC: No worries. Dead brain happens sometimes]

Fair enough. I don't blame you for being suspicious, given the circumstances.

On the other hand, everything's free here, so looking pretty isn't dependent on money.

An' here I am scratchin' my mind for what it's all gonna cost me. Sure they say it's free. Sides the whole we're in a jail part. But there's no extra cost? There's a double cross in there somewhere.

It's going to cost you your freedom - for the rest of your life, apparently. Doesn't that warrant a few extra perks on the inside?

No. Cause that means this ain't Alliance which means I can't figure my way outta it.

[Very gently] I’m sorry. I really don’t think this is anything to do with your Alliance. I think we have all been pulled from a great number of timestreams by something completely other.

Right... different timestreams. Maybe when the drugs wear off it'll make more sense.

[Still gently.] Once you've been here a while and talked to more people, it'll probably gradually sink in, yeah.

I'll leave you to settle in, eh? But seriously - I know you don't believe me yet, but if you need a friend any time, give me a call. Captain Jack Harkness.

[Mal grunts at most of what Jack has to say. He really should get some sort of pain meds soon because whatever Simon gave him seems to be wearing off in the pain department but not so much in the loopy head department. However, the other man did throw around a title. Thus Mal feels he has to at least say his own before signing off.]

Captain Malcolm Reynolds.

[And no, he'll probably never ever call you "captain."]

[Jack has, somehow, managed to miss the need for meds here, otherwise he'd probably be running to the other man's rescue whether he liked it or not. As it is, he just nods, and gives Mal a small smile.]

Well, see you around, Captain Malcolm Reynolds.
