day 219: voice | open
Well, that was unexpected.

[ the very confident and ultimately extremely british voice sounds rather less frightened than it likely should, considering the person attached to it just got told she's in prison for the rest of her life. helen's not really buying that. let them try to keep her here. ]

I have to say -- [ she raises her voice just slightly, as though speaking to the communicator isn't enough. she'd like to catch the attention of the "wardens," if possible. ] -- I usually favor face-to-face discussions, like civilized adults. None of this "enjoy your stay" from afar.

[ she supposes it could be worse. she could be stuck in a prison with addison. she pauses for a moment to internally shudder at that. dear god, if addison's here, she'll probably throw something.

at some point she'll drop the bite to her voice, but that point isn't right now. ]

I suppose the term "extenuating circumstances" means little to you. Allow me to let you in on a little secret: the last time someone tried to hold me hostage against my will, a friend and I blew them up. I'd rather not have the same happen here.

[ and with that, she cuts the communication. bait set. time to see who bites. ]

[ damon's lucky she's already shown nikola her condition or she might be less willing to do so now. regardless, she goes with the video feature for the moment, giving this new person a very irritated look in return.

he's giving her a wave. how cute. ]

Can't say I'd like that trip. Think I'll pass, if it's all the same to you.

[ completely ignoring the "newbie" comment. ]

[ Damon doesn't mind the irritated look one bit. He's used to the reaction. Gets it all the time in fact. He does raise his eyebrows slightly though when he notices the state that's she in. Gee. What an impression. ]

Ooh. Looks like someone likes playing rough. Guess you'll be fitting in just fine.

Welcome to Prisneyland. [ He lets out a smirk. ]

Don't mind the aliens, the trolls, the vampires and the other types of creatures in this place. We're one big happy family.

[ lineface. that's pretty much what this is now. ]

Let me guess: having a window blown out in one's face is just another day at the office here?

[ that's the only insight into what she's just gone through that he's going to get for now. as for the rest... she ignores the "prisneyland" comment. what catches her attention is the different types of beings he's mentioned. aliens and vampires are well within her normal job description. ]

I can see you're quite happy to be sharing a family with the likes of them.

[ she may be goading him to see what else he'll spill. spoilers: she totally is. ]

Well, like any other prison, there are rules. You injure someone, you get punished. You get injured, you get punished. You break the rules, you get punished. Blah, blah, blah. You get the drift. And sure, properties get destroyed, people get stabbed, both literally and figuratively, but I can take care of myself. [ And that's as much as he'll say. Or reveal. He's so much more interested to keep the topic of conversation on her. But first he'll do that thing where he introduces himself because he can be polite. ]

I'm Damon. [ And he's quietly nicknamed her Mary Poppins for now. ] And you are?

[ so there's a punishment system. good to know and you can bet she's taking notes on everything he's saying. ]

Helen Magnus. [ her eyes have narrowed slightly, mostly as she's putting effort into listening for what he's not saying. ] I would say it's a pleasure to meet you, but the circumstances could certainly be better. [ that isn't to say his company is unwanted, just that the situation is awful. ]

[ He lets out a slight shrug. ] Seems to me that you might be better off here than back at home. But I'd lose the jumpsuit. [ He makes a face. ]

There's a department store in Sector 3 if you'd like a change of clothes. Everything's free for the taking here. Aren't we a lucky bunch? [ Damon here has a small collection of John Varvatos outfits though. Like he'd ever be caught dead shopping at the Bullseye. Ew. Which reminds him. He needs to start collecting more points in order to make another wardrobe request from the wardens. ]

Is there someone coming for you?

I doubt that. [ she'd much prefer back home. at least there she had things to keep her occupied every day, even if it was just paperwork. ]

There's always a catch to that sort of generosity. [ she's not to sure she trusts "free for the taking." ] But thank you for the tip, regardless. I'll be certain to remember it.

Yes. He should be here shortly. [ yes, a he. yes, the guy she was arguing with earlier if he cared to read. no, they are not a thing, despite arguing like an old married couple. ]

The one who called you dear and mentioned something about--[ And here's something that gives him the shivers. ]--children? [ Of course he'd listen in on -- well, some parts of that conversation. ]

Boyfriend? Husband? Divorced couple? [ Nosy, nosy. Get used to it, Helen. ]

[ oh. well then. her expression tightens a bit, eyes widening just so as her head tilts, only enough to show a warning. that is not a path to be lightly tread. ]

Colleague. [ there's a thing there. a thing neither of them want to label. ] He's taken to calling my staff members "children" for whatever reason. [ she knows the reason. comes from being well over a century older. ]

Pfft. Boring. [ If he saw the look of warning from her, it's obvious that he doesn't care. Clearly was hoping for something juicy. Now on to the next interesting thing. ]

So I hear you destroy things. [ Reasons why he keeps his conversations private. ]

[ she eyes him warily for that. not often someone actually asks about that instead of discouraging it. ]

Only under the most dire of circumstances. [ he'll have to do better than that to pry information out of her. ]

Secret agent? Evil scientist? Temperamental CEO? [ He cants his head to the side and lets out a slight pout. Come on. Feed his curiosity. He's not going to stop guessing. Ever. And time is what he has. ]

[ she gives him a challenging sort of smirk. ] Could be anything, couldn't it? [ it's going to drive him nuts when she doesn't confirm or deny his guesses, isn't it? ]
