day 219: voice | open
Well, that was unexpected.

[ the very confident and ultimately extremely british voice sounds rather less frightened than it likely should, considering the person attached to it just got told she's in prison for the rest of her life. helen's not really buying that. let them try to keep her here. ]

I have to say -- [ she raises her voice just slightly, as though speaking to the communicator isn't enough. she'd like to catch the attention of the "wardens," if possible. ] -- I usually favor face-to-face discussions, like civilized adults. None of this "enjoy your stay" from afar.

[ she supposes it could be worse. she could be stuck in a prison with addison. she pauses for a moment to internally shudder at that. dear god, if addison's here, she'll probably throw something.

at some point she'll drop the bite to her voice, but that point isn't right now. ]

I suppose the term "extenuating circumstances" means little to you. Allow me to let you in on a little secret: the last time someone tried to hold me hostage against my will, a friend and I blew them up. I'd rather not have the same happen here.

[ and with that, she cuts the communication. bait set. time to see who bites. ]

[ elena is going through her normal morning routine: going for a run, then back to the apartment for a shower, and then right back out for errands and studying. it just so happens part of that routine is also checking the network between leaving her place and going where she has to go.

everything in helen's message voices things she's heard before, in dozens of different ways. it's 'and i blew them up' that has her brows raising with mild interest. whether it's a serious threat or not, she understands why someone just showing up here would make it.

she won't tell helen what she's thinking: it won't do any good.

she listens to the few replies, planning to be quick - but tesla's voice and the familiarity in it catch her notice.

it's none of her business to listen in, or listen in closely despite her curiosity egging her forward, so she decidedly forgoes some of the messages in favor of replying herself:
]

I doubt anyone would. [ would want anything or one blown up, she means. ] We're at the bottom of an ocean.

[ by the time this new voice comes through, helen is a bit less snappy, which is likely fortunate for all parties involved. she pauses for a moment and decides she'll likely get more answers with her normal self than the irritation she'd been sporting after a day of nearly getting killed by armed robbers. ]

So I've noticed. Not exactly the ideal place for a decent explosion.

[ may or may not be teasing at that. ]

Either way, I should think a little reconnaissance would be more useful at the moment.

[ irritation is kind of par for the course. she's used to it and she understands hearing it. she's also heard fear, anger, and in rare but not as rare-as-you-might-think circumstances, excitement. she can easily adjust to teasing.

there's a smile in her voice at helen's tone, a soft exhale of wry amusement.

she wants reconnaissance, so:
] What do you need to know?

[ she appreciates the girl's willingness to offer information and she'll definitely take her up on that. ]

The wheres mostly. Where things are. I've a feeling my escort won't be quite as happy to play tour guide.

[ but she won't turn anything down at this point. ]

First thing I'll need after this is a good cup of tea.
