No, if there was a lightbulb fizzling out of existence...

No, no. not that. This needed more then some dank, dark, moody development. No, what this needed was melodramatic sobbing, the renting of hair, the astringent vowing of eternal damnation, for there was naught like a Bak scorned!

But there was none of these things as he walked into the apartment that seemed large by default now that he was no longer in attendance. He had to face his demons and there was a singular truth mixed in with the melancholy. He as going to miss that old man. But that was no excuse for neglecting the one companion he had left.

He had duty. He had responsibility and above all, he had compassion. Therefore, with squared off shoulders, he marched into that apartment and called out for her. Yep. her ]

Miranda?

[ he paused, listening for signs of life. She had to still be around her somewhere, right? ]

[ open action ]

Bak had no intentions of replacing Komui or Fou or anyone else for that matter. But his desolate wanderings had taken him by the pet shop on a whim. To pick up some random chew toy for Lee, Miranda's vulpix. Anything to keep her from crying. If he could!

Except...

There was a dog staring at him, watching his every move as he shuffled through the shop. It was unnerving and not just because it reminded him of Komui. N o p e. It's that look in his eye. Like Bak was a favorite chew toy. And Bak was threw with being tossed around!

So, if you happen to wander into the shop this afternoon, never fear the tirade going on inside. Bak's just letting off a little steam and pointing fingers. And for what it's worth, that puppy is taking it pretty damn calmly and only with a few minor wags of his tail. Y e p. Just like Komui. That unrepentant jerk! He was gonna miss you. ]</small>

	Didn't approve...? [Oh dear that only makes her more worried because it sounds so reasonable. What is the wardens are behind it?] But how would we know? What if they've been arrested?! [ it sounds reasonable because that's what Bak said. Why else would the wardens decide that both needed to go at once? But he simply shook his head and put on his best impression of a reliable chief branch. The impression is most excellent considering he is one. ]

Komui would have made a ruckus if he had been arrested. [ and messed up the lab on top of it too ] They're simply lost in the stabilizer for now. But, that doesn't matter at the moment; we need a contingency plan in case more Noah appear or if Tyki decides to attack. [ he stared Miranda straight in the eye, needing the reassurance ] Can you handle him.

[ and of course he doesn't believe that they were lost in the least. No one can convince him the wardens have a lesser grasp of technology then his finders. It didn't stand to reason. ]

[She almost feels the need to lean back from the intensity of the question and stare combined. It's so little of her in comparison to what the Order normally expects, and yet so much. That kind of expectation, she's never felt it before.]

I-I--Well--Time Record isn't--[Her Innocence is only for defense, never for fighting. She can't beat Tyki back if he attacks, she can only wear him down. What if he tries and she isn't there, what if another Noah comes and they attack together? Can she do this? She already has enough trouble getting Tyki to behave himself, but didn't he just go to a dance with her without causing too much trouble? It's so hard to know what he will do next. Still, she is an Exorcist. She is the only one left and her superior is counting on her to do the best she can. How can she do anything less?]

I will do wh-whatever I need to do. [She'll figure out a way.]

[ he nodded, expecting no less from Miranda. ] We'll have to work together of course. If he goes on a rampage, our best option is to contain him until the wardens can step in and diffuse the situation.

[ he glanced over at her, stroking a chin. ]

And we'll need to scout out the dome and look for places of best defense. Wherever we can get the most people in the shortest amount of time so you can do what you do best.

Yes--containing him would be a good thing. So we don't get into trouble fo-for hurting him either. [It would be better if he never tries to attack to begin with. Miranda will do what she can, but she's not a fighter. She had barely managed to progress in the weeks since she arrived in her self-defense skills. She just...had to think of a way to convince Tyki that their truce was better off as it was.]

Everyone is very spread out, but...there are plenty of buildings they frequent. Like the education center.

[ he waved a hand ] For the safety of everyone, a little bit of trouble is worth the price. But you're right, the education center is certainly well known but...

[ he fiddled around with the map on his network device, frowning ]

The Kiosk, actually, maybe prove to be a better location. It's small, easy to get to, and it's in the middle of the dome. We won't have to worry as much about the stragglers. We may even be able to recruit the bots in the area to help defend the dome.

[ he fiddled around with the device a little more before looking up, suddenly feeling a flash of guilt ] Of course, we can always discuss this later,if you'd prefer. [ he's not that much of an ass, even if the times and the place warrants it on occasion. He's had his time to mourn, Miranda hasn't. ]

[Miranda almost feels guilty for the show of concern. He's being so kind about all of this. They both lost someone today, but he's taking it much better than she is. She should be the one used to it after all this time. Lee nuzzles under her chin and she pets him to calm him down--when truthfully she wants to calm herself.]

No, no, you're right, Branch Chief. We need to think about these things. Supervisor Komui would never have wanted us to forget about the dangers here. Um--Yes, the kiosk area does sound good. The bots know how to take away our abilities so they should be able to control him, too.

You're wrong. The Branch chief would much rather we went out and had fun rather then dwell on his disappearance. [ he sighed ] Considering the General and Komui disappeared on the same day, I'd almost guess they planned this. [ nope, not even the tiniest bit surprised. ]

We aren't dwelling! [Lee jerks back a bit at her tone and she realizes that came out a bit more forcefully than she intended. Miranda brings a hand up to cover her mouth in surprise. She was trying to do the right thing, not take out how she feels on Bak.] I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say it that way. I-I just meant that being cautious isn't dwelling. My Innocence isn't like the others...we have to be more careful.

[She nods at his suggestion because she thinks it's a very good idea. They need all the help they can get when she's the only Exorcist left. Her fingers pause from where they had returned to stroking Lee's back at him question and she briefly looks away.]

I'm fine. This...well. It's not the first time this has happened. Komui's left before. He'll be back eventually. An-And if he doesn't, it's for a good reason. [She has to believe that.]

[Lee leans more out of her lap so that he can sniff Bak and then rub against his side. Why does everyone seem so sad today? Miranda looks at him, trying to get an idea of how he's feeling. She is worried about him, but also the offer of comfort is something she does not want to give up. Bak is all she has left of home.]

Yes, I...I would like that. I can even bring you meals to your lab if you want. It doesn't matter as long as we share them together.

And--And don't you work yourself too hard. Please.
