[Here in this mild-mannered meeting room, something very normal is going on. Dr. Spencer Reid of the ~~BAU~~ Defense Force is interviewing an interested party for membership. Leader of the force, Kitty Pryde, is also attending the proceedings, leaving most of the questioning to the profiler, but most assuredly taking everything in.

For as common as this has become—routine even—there is a slight aberration this time around.

The candidate they are interviewing is...a unicorn.]

What was your name again [Mr. Pony]?

[Hoo boy. It was like when he was a cadet all over again.] Shining Armor. [He remembered the guy in the tie from Penelope's party. But he didn't seem nervous. He stood with his snout held high. Unless they wanted him to sit. These humans sat a lot. He supposed they got tired sooner with only two legs to support them.

But that really wasn't at issue here. Once a guardsman, forever a guardsman. Just because it wasn't for royalty or a kingdom, that didn't mean he could take a break.]

Princess Celestia rules over all of Equestria. Before I was... put in prison [He didn't seem to like the taste of that yet] I was Prince of the Crystal Empire. Protection of the Crystal Ponies rests on the shoulders of my wife and I.

[He considers how best to explain this for a moment. He twists a bit so as to show them his cutie mark. As if they hadn't noticed it.] Do you see that? Where I come from, everypony is foaled without a cutie mark. As they grow, they figure out what it is they're best at, or what makes them special. Once they do, their cutie mark appears. Protecting other po-- people [see, he's been learning] is what I do best. It comes as naturally to me as breathing, I guess. [He feels a little like he's tooting his own horn, but it's true. But he's sincere.]

I may not like the reasons I'm here, but there are some dangerous criminals here, and I'd like to be able to do whatever I can to keep the innocent ones safe.

	Well, that's simple, really. I'd use my magic to put a shield around both of them. Separated, of course. From there, I'd try to figure out what caused the fight in the first place. 	It's a good solution, but like he says this place has a way of throwing the unexpected at you. I should be able to pass through anything. One of us is wrong. How do you feel about the Defense Force's full intentions? We've talked a lot about protection and that's a big part of it, but so is shutting this facility down to keep others from being brought here and hopefully getting everyone back home. [At least that's a big part of it to her. It wasn't something Gino or Suzaku focused on, but it's a part of protection as far as she's concerned.]

She is the queen of the changelings. Changelings take the shape of somepony that is loved very much, and use that love to increase their own magical power.

Another is King Sombra. But he's been destroyed.

In that case, Princess Luna used to be known as Nightmare Moon, a while ago. She tried to cast all of Equestria in an eternal night.

Generally speaking, unicorns like myself can do magic. We can all do basic things like levitating objects, but each pony has their own specialty. Mine happens to be shields. Pegasi can, of course, fly, and earth ponies, those without wings or horns, tend to be physically stronger and have other things they're good at.

Alicorns are pretty rare, ponies with horns and wings. My wife, Princess Cadance, is one, and my sister only recently earned her wings. I'm not too sure how that works, though. They're usually considered royalty in some respect. Their magic is usually stronger than everyone else's, and they have more of a variety of what they can do than your average unicorn, like me. [Average compared to his sister, anyway. His pride in his sister is obvious when he talks about her, though.]
