Day 217 ✝ Action / Voice
[Earlier in the morning, Derek is running around the Defense Force headquarters. Mostly, he’s been acquainting himself with the updated roster for the Force, especially his Investigative Team. He sends out a quick message to said Investigative Team informing them that there will be a meeting that afternoon at three. It isn’t mandatory so if they miss it, it’s not a big deal. But they will be discussing a course of action to try to learn more about the prison.

As he also notes that his sector patrol team has changed, he decides to touch base with the new people as well. He’s not a huge fan of changes, but he handles it better if he gets the upper hand on it. So during his lunch break (street food stands in sector 0), he tosses them a private message.]

[ private voice to Terry McGinnis and Zero Kiryuu ]
Hey, name’s Derek Morgan. I see we work Sector One together and thought we should touch base so we know who we’re workin’ with.

ooc: The Investigative team meeting is a mingle. Derek will intro and let them know what it’s about, but feel free to thread with anyone in attendance. Also, anyone is free to run into Derek at HQ or when he breaks for lunch.

Vampire Hunter. [Like Buffy. He's spoken to her a few times here in the prison.] So you know how to handle yourself. That's good.

[Derek's become used to the varying versions of Earth people here are from. But it also still isn't something he's completely comfortable with. Things still surprise him, still seem a little unreal, but he likes it that way. He doesn't want to become complacent to new and different things.]

What kind of mishap?

	Occasionally people will go missing from the facility for a bit. Sometimes they come back. Sometimes they don't. Sometimes they remember. Sometimes they don't. Yes and no. The number of inmates in Marina that can be classified as a vampire are actually larger than most people probably realize. There are a number of different worlds that they are from. Each world is extremely different from each other. I spend a lot of time observing them to determine the differences from each world and the personalities of each of them.

Marina has a tendency to alter typical behaviors from time to time. It helps to know as much as I can about each of them to determine their risk on a typical day. If one of them suddenly starts attacking someone, it helps me to determine how much force and interference I need to run in the situation. Knowledge of who they are and their interaction in their close circles helps.

None of this, nor patrolling, are much different from what I'm used to doing at home. Yes, I hunt and kill vampires, but only if they are a large risk to others and have been slated for execution. Typically those vampires have already lost their sanity and death is not unwelcome by that point. The rest of the job isn't much different from a typical law enforcement position. We monitor parties to ensure humans aren't being smuggled in as a food source. We investigate, arrest, question. We even work with leaders of the vampire population to hash out rules and laws.

It's a role our ancestors were bestowed and has passed down for generations through our bloodlines. I know my world is a little unique because of that...

Yeah, I'd say that's pretty unique. In my world vampires are only something in movies, books and television. So this place has taken some... getting used to as far as they're concerned. I learned some about them through a girl named Buffy. Have you met her?

[Because if Zero has met her then Derek doesn't need to rehash what little he knows about them through her.]

	None that I've seen. Bein' here is my first experience with it. Guess I'm still learning about it. Vampires here have a synthetic kind of blood they can drink. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	They aren't banned from drinking from others either. They are allowed to get blood in whatever manner they prefer. There are several other alternatives for some of them. Transfusions, bagged blood from the hospital, real blood, tablets, the synthetic at the blood shack. (Reply to this) (Parent)
