[Bart didn't know which was worse: waking up in prison, losing his superpowers, or receiving the ugliest jumpsuit known to mankind. He wasn't a stranger to law enforcement, having been on both sides of the equation, but Marina's new territory. It's like the sick, twisted love child of Atlantis and Belle Reve (complete with free ankle monitor! all yours for the grand price of your freedom!)

Unable to take off the monitor, Bart had settled for turning off his comm device and heading to the nearest clothing store. Thank god he'd woken up in Sector 4 - running would've been a pain in the neck. Unfortunately, he also doesn't have cash.

He wouldn't steal under any other circumstance, but people usually expect cash. That's just how capitalism works! If anyone asks, they never saw him. Of course not, because the kid who entered in a jumpsuit and the kid who left in a red t-shirt and white jeans aren't the same person. Absolutely not. Especially since that second kid had already dumped his prison jumpsuit into one of the inventory bins.

It would've been the perfect crime not that he knows everything's free, but his conscience is making his heart race again... and of course, the second he tries to leave, he hits the door face-first and falls hard onto the floor (activating his voice feed in the process). Goddammit.]

[voice]
OW.

Oh hey, this thing's on... [Bart fiddles with the feed some more, before hastily adding:] Ignore the man behind the emerald curtain, y'all. No - seriously, I'm not the tech guy, that's kind of Chloe's thing. I barely understood Twitter, I don't particularly get Facebook, and these wardens expect me to use this thing without breaking it? Or well, it seems simple enough, it's just... you know, prison tech. The last prison didn't have tech nearly this sophisticated.

[He's speaking rapidly about how much tech isn't his thing, even without his super-speed, until he remembers where he is. Bart coughs.] Right, sorry, fair people of Marina Novella. Nova? Marina Telenovela? Whatever we're called, I'll catch you on the flipside. Assuming that, you know, I don't get out of here on parole first.

I guess that's true. [Wally squints a little, as if it will let him get a better look at Bart.]

It's just...you look way more like Barry than the other Bart did. I mean, it's actually kind of freaky.

I do? Maybe we should meet in person and get this figured out. [The alternate universes are staring to make his head hurt a little, if he were being honest.] I mean, the chances of me looking like Barry are pretty slim.

... I don't sound like him, right? Because then that'd be kinda weird.

Well now that you mention it...

[Bart's voice actually does sound similar to Barry's; so much so that Wally thinks "kinda weird" doesn't even begin to describe what's going on here. Seriously, if he were to take away the fact that the guy's name was Bart, he'd swear this guy was a younger version of his Uncle.]

How do you feel about Italian food? [He can't deal with all of this on an empty stomach.]

Sounds good. You'll have to tell me where to go, but uh... gimme a couple of minutes to get there. [He visibly grimaces, gesturing down to his "welcome present" on his ankle.] Normal-person minutes, I mean.

Unless you know how to get this thing off, I'm not racing anyone anytime soon.

[Wally lets out a little chuckle at that.]

Dude, I know how you feel. [Being slow sucked.] But the thing will come off tomorrow if you're a good boy until then.

Anyway, The Bistro is in Sector 2. [He goes on to give Bart further details on where to go.] Got it?

What, they don't think a hero can behave? That's kind of cute. [Says the guy who just tried to rob a store.

He gives a nod after he hears the directions, committing the details to memory.]
Got it! I'll see you in a fla--few minutes. [Not being able to say his catchphrase sucks. A lot.]

[He can't help but laugh when Bart changes his words.] Don't keep me waiting too long. [He gives a final, teasing grin and a two-finger salute before cutting the feed.]

[After ending the feed, he immediately makes his way to the meeting place, and settles into one of the booths near the restaurant's entrance so Bart can easily spot him when he shows up. And while he waits for the other speedster to arrive, he has some time to reflect on what he knows from their conversation: Bart's met Jay. He was the first in his family to get their powers. He looks and sounds exactly like Barry despite there being no known relation. Honestly, between what little Wally knows of Bart's background and given his appearance, he might as well just be Barry. And that thought leaves Wally a little uncomfortable; not because it's a bad thing, just that it's...weird. Really weird.

And then there's some other things that has Wally curious as well; most notably this "Speed Force" that Bart was talking about. Plus, is there a Justice League in his world? Does he know a version of Dick and/or the others? What did he mean by 'last prison'?

So many questions and no possible answers until Bart gets here.

[God, he'd never tease Ollie again for being so slow. Or Chloe, for that matter - how did they go through life at this snail's pace? It was torture. Every time he passed by something interesting, he was half-tempted to just zip by and---no, he couldn't. He's slow, and Wally's waiting for him.

Needless to say, Bart arrives at the Bistro a few minutes late, as he'd gotten distracted by a few things (and he'd snagged a pair of sunglasses). Hey, if he's going to meet a fellow speedster, it might as well be in style.

The kid still looks unfamiliar, even up close, and that bothers Bart. Wally has no good reason to lie about them being family, especially about that other Bart. The one that doesn't look like him. The one that's supposed to be his grandson. If he didn't know better, he'd say he was Wally's uncle, but that's not possible, unless they're more distantly related - Bart doesn't have any siblings, after all.

Still, he manages a smile as he slides in the seat across from his nephew.]
Hey. Sorry I took so long. [Normal people time's hard to estimate!]

[Wally returns the smile, hoping Bart isn't too uncomfortable with the way he's kind of staring at him for a moment. It's just hard to believe how much Bart looks like Barry, even more so in person. But he should probably say something before this gets really awkward, right?]

Uh, no problem. Nice shades by the way.

[He slides one of the restaurant's menus across the table for the other speedster to look at.]

So what do you think of our underwater paradise so far?

[Uncomfortable, no. Nervous and possibly guilty that he doesn't know the kid? Oh yeah. He feels like he missed a million memos somehow, even if he'd only been here for an hour or so.

Bart grins, his guilt slightly mitigated by the compliment.]
Thanks. I see good taste runs in the family too.

[He accepts the menu, but barely looks at it. He's already aware that he'll order everything (or well, most of everything - being slow means he's not that hungry.)] It's a lot nicer than I expected. For a place where you don't have any freedom, they're really pulling out all the stops here.

[Wally beamed a little at the mention of family, because even if Bart doesn't know him, it's still nice to be referred to as such.]

I think they just want to distract everyone from the fact that they're stuck in a prison and hope people become content with living here. [And he'd have to admit it's a sound strategy, as he's becoming more at ease with his situation the longer he's been here. Having his friends around certainly helps with that.]

But there's still people working on finding the way out. [The aforementioned Defense Force among others.]

[Ew. Bread and circuses were like, so 100 A.D. Bart tries to hide his grimace behind his menu, but it's not really working.] Content with prison? Sounds like they've got the same idea as the government...

[Though his grimace does fade at Wally's next words.] Yeah? Is it anything like the League? [Because if it is, Bart'd sign up in a heartbeat.] Or well, I don't know if you know the League, but they're a group of pretty ["kick-ass"], uh, pretty awesome people who fight crime, save the world, help old ladies cross the street... that kind of thing.

[Well there's one question answered.] Yeah, I've heard of the League. And they are pretty awesome. [He leans against the back of the booth and puts his hands behind his head, a smirk on his face.] I mean, not as awesome as my team of course, but still pretty awesome.

And the Defense Force is sort of like that. It's basically an inmate police force type of deal. We patrol the place and handle the occasional crisis among other things. [Like gathering information on the dome.] Haven't had to help an old lady cross the street yet, though.

You have a team. [Bart sits up straighter, glancing over at Wally uneasily. The kid can't be more than what, 16? And he's fighting crime?] That's... well, that's cool.

[He busies himself with that menu immediately. He knows he's a hypocrite, disapproving of Wally fighting crime when Bart was causing crime at the same age, but... it's different now. Criminals've gotten crazier. It also sounds like the Defense Force isn't the team Wally had back home, and frankly, that bothers him. A lot.] Are there even old ladies around here? It sounds like most of the people in here are 20-something's and teenagers.

[Wally frowns a little at Bart's reaction to him being on a team, though perhaps he shouldn't be too surprised given Barry's own reluctance to taking him on as a sidekick when he first suggested the idea. But there's nothing to worry about; Wally's been fighting crime since he was 13 and has proved that he can take care of himself along with the rest of the Team. They were the ones that stopped Vandal Savage and Klarion's plan, after all.]

I've been Barry's partner for a couple of years now. The team was only formed about 6 or so months ago. [Maybe knowing that he's been in the game for a while and had Barry's help along the way will help ease any concern the other speedster may have.

He shrugs a shoulder at Bart's question about old ladies.
] If there are, I haven't ran into any of them. Maybe the Wardens' cloning method doesn't do old people?

[Maybe there's nothing to worry about, but the guilt was overwhelming Bart. This kid's uncle was seriously starting to piss him off, and he swears, the first time he meets this Mr. Allen? Well, Mr. Allen's going to be in a world of pain.

But at the same time, there hadn't been a Barry to help him when Bart got his powers. Nor had there been other teenage heroes to share Bart's woes and insecurities. In a way, he was jealous of the kid too.]
So you got your powers at the same age I did.

[He's choosing to focus on that, rather than the implications of Barry taking on a sidekick.] Your parents didn't treat you weird because of it, did they? Barry... [He forces a smile.] Barry made sure things were cool with them, right?

[It's not entirely Barry's fault as Wally can be quite persistent when he wants something. To the point of him recreating the science experiment that gave Barry his powers without anyone else's knowledge, and nearly getting himself killed when he blew up his parents' garage in the process. Wally thinks part of the reason why Barry changed his mind about the whole sidekick deal was out of guilt for allowing that to happen in the first place.]

With my powers? Yeah, my parents are completely cool with them. [You know, after they got over how he went about getting them.] And they're cool with what I do too. I mean, I know they're terrified that I won't come home someday, but they support me because it's what I want. [He knows that not everyone is lucky to have parents like his.]

So how exactly did you get your powers? [There's already a slight difference from Barry since Bart appears to have gotten his powers much earlier in life.]

Huh. [Wally's parents were just like the Kents, then. Bart's even more envious than he thought he was. His parents had tried to be supportive - initially - but their fear had gotten the best of them, and so Bart got the heck outta Dodge before it could consume him too.] I'm glad. Really. I've just... I've seen some parents react pretty poorly to the whole scenario.

[He's not sure what else to say. "Congratulations on winning the good parent lottery?" The question about his powers makes him shrug, as he too leans back in his seat.]

Honestly, I don't know. [He sighs, staring down at the table or the menu - anywhere that isn't the kid's face.] I remember this bright flash of light, names just appearing in my head... and running. Everything before that's a total blur.

[Wally gets a bit of a guilty look on his face when Bart mentions parents reacting poorly to the situation, mostly because he thinks Bart might be referring to his own personal experience, and here he is going on about how great his parents are.] Yeah. I really lucked out.

[He listens carefully as Bart goes on about how he gained his powers, brows furrowing slightly when the other guy is done.] So you don't remember anything before that happened? And when you say names appearing in your head, is that what you meant when you said you've heard of me through this 'Speed Force' or whatever?

You did. Seriously, don't worry about it so much. [Bart smiles reassuringly. While he's envious, he can't exactly fault Wally for lucking out. It meant that more people like the Kents were around - and well, that was always a good thing.]

I really don't. The light must've blocked out everything beforehand. [At least Wally wasn't judging him like certain best friends Bart won't name.] Exactly what I meant. The old man said that five of us were connected to the Speed Force: you, me, Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, and Max Mercury. The old man said it was some kind of "extra-dimensional energy force?" I don't know much more than that, to be honest.

[He thinks for a moment, before realizing he does:] But we can use it because our bodies're special. Cl--Superman had a friend that ran tests on me a few days ago, and basically, while I could use the Force, Superman couldn't. Not without some kind of special containment suit, and even then, it was super rough on him. ... No pun intended.

[Wally gives a grateful nod at Bart's reassurance, and then proceeds to listen intently as the Speed Force is explained to him, a thoughtful expression on his face when Bart's finished.]

I've met Max Mercury before. Here, not back home. [It was actually another version of Wally himself pretending to be Max, but he doesn't know that.] Also, I don't think the Speed Force exists in my universe. I mean, Jay's had his powers since the 40s, and Barry's had his for over a decade. [And if this Speed Force existed, wouldn't they have found it by now?]

Is there any specific way to tell if you're tapping into this "extra-dimensional energy force"?

Wait, Barry's had his powers for over a decade too? It'll be ten years for me too, give or take a couple of months. [He was going to ask about Max, considering Bart hasn't met the guy, but the information about Barry bothered him more. From the sounds of it, his life was meshing up more with Wally's uncle than Wally's cousin once removed.]

And actually, there is. Have you encountered the Black Racer yet? Or speed storms? [His face darkens a little at the thought, as he clamps his hands tighter around the menu.

Thankfully, before he can get too upset, the waiter comes over and asks for their order (Bart absentmindedly asks for two of everything). Once that's squared away, Bart elaborates:]
Speed storms are bits and pieces of the Force that've been unleashed into the world. If normal people're caught in them, they don't survive the onslaught. As for the Racer, you definitely know if you've met him before - and I really hope you haven't.

What are the odds, huh? [Except Wally is starting to believe that all these similarities between Bart and Barry aren't mere coincidences. Could this guy really be his uncle from an alternate universe? Maybe he can find out if they have even more stuff in common.] Barry was actually one of the founding members of the Justice League back home.

[Wally shakes his head in response to Bart's question about the Black Racer and speed storms, but the waiter arrives before he can ask who or what those things are - though Wally is leaning towards them not being good things given Bart's reaction. He doesn't have to wait too long to find out if he's right as Bart continued on after the waiter had taken their order.]

Those speed storms seem like really nasty things, but none of us have had to deal with anything like that in my world. [He sounds quite relieved about that.] And I've never met or heard of this Black Racer dude, either. Though I have had a few run-ins with Black Spider, but I'm guessin' he's a pushover compared to this guy.

My League doesn't have a name, but I was a founding member too. [This is beyond similar, considering how neatly the dots were lining up with one another.] We're batting at almost non-existent odds now, aren't we?

[Thank god Wally hasn't dealt with it. The second Bart hears the news, he sighs of relief.

If Wally had faced the Racer, Bart's guilt would've multiplied to almost impossible levels. It would've meant that the other speedsters had stopped running altogether, or that the Racer hadn't been satisfied with his offering of pure energy.]
Lex Luthor's a pushover compared to the Racer. I should know, I---["I stole stuff from him. A lot." Bart coughs.] I've fought him a couple of times.

It's a good thing y'all don't have the Force, if it means you get to avoid those.

[It seems Bart is reaching the same possible conclusion that Wally has, and that thought makes Wally shift uncomfortably in his seat, suddenly feeling more self-conscious than he was a few seconds ago. Barry's approval has always meant a lot to him and it seems that carries over to any potential alternate universe versions of his uncle as well.] I, uh, think that would be safe to say.

[Wally raises a questioning eyebrow at Bart's timely cough - making him think there may be some interesting stories behind these fights with Lex Luthor - but he'll refrain from prying for now. There will be plenty of time for that later.] Well Lex Luthor is only human. Of course, he has a whole lot of money, resources, and a direct hotline to all things evil to make up for it. [And his Lex even has a cyborg bodyguard to boot.]

But, yeah, this Speed Force sounds like a lot of trouble.
