day 215 | afternoon | action + voice
[action]
[Bart didn't know which was worse: waking up in prison, losing his superpowers, or receiving the ugliest jumpsuit known to mankind. He wasn't a stranger to law enforcement, having been on both sides of the equation, but Marina's new territory. It's like the sick, twisted love child of Atlantis and Belle Reve (complete with free ankle monitor! all yours for the grand price of your freedom!)

Unable to take off the monitor, Bart had settled for turning off his comm device and heading to the nearest clothing store. Thank god he'd woken up in Sector 4 - running would've been a pain in the neck. Unfortunately, he also doesn't have cash.

He wouldn't steal under any other circumstance, but people usually expect cash. That's just how capitalism works! If anyone asks, they never saw him. Of course not, because the kid who entered in a jumpsuit and the kid who left in a red t-shirt and white jeans aren't the same person. Absolutely not. Especially since that second kid had already dumped his prison jumpsuit into one of the inventory bins.

It would've been the perfect crime not that he knows everything's free, but his conscience is making his heart race again... and of course, the second he tries to leave, he hits the door face-first and falls hard onto the floor (activating his voice feed in the process). Goddammit.]

[voice]
OW.

Oh hey, this thing's on... [Bart fiddles with the feed some more, before hastily adding:] Ignore the man behind the emerald curtain, y'all. No - seriously, I'm not the tech guy, that's kind of Chloe's thing. I barely understood Twitter, I don't particularly get Facebook, and these wardens expect me to use this thing without breaking it? Or well, it seems simple enough, it's just... you know, prison tech. The last prison didn't have tech nearly this sophisticated.

[He's speaking rapidly about how much tech isn't his thing, even without his super-speed, until he remembers where he is. Bart coughs.] Right, sorry, fair people of Marina Novella. Nova? Marina Telenovela? Whatever we're called, I'll catch you on the flipside. Assuming that, you know, I don't get out of here on parole first.

That's a good idea! You think the clothing stores might have one?

[He's being completely sincere. He keeps his goggles on with an athletic strap, so having one attached to the comm device couldn't hurt.]

Probably. There are plenty of people here with glasses that might need 'em for stuff, so I don't see why they wouldn't have something you could use.

Awesome.

Since this thing doesn't come with an instruction manual... [Or if it did, heck if Bart knows where it went.] Anything else I should know? Like if this thing can sprout legs and disappear in the middle of the night?

Well, it does a lotta stuff within certain limits. You can do voice, video, private calls... you can go through other public stuff people do. It'll save stuff for 24 hours for you to go back and look later.

It does not, however, hack into the Warden's computer network.

[He hadn't tried very hard, yet, but he hadn't found the connection between the two in order to try, either. Not that he was looking or anything.......]

I'm guessing other people have tried and failed? [The thought really hadn't occurred to him.] I'm no hacker, man. I think the Wardens're safe from me for now.

But it won't let us save stuff from say, a week ago? That sucks.

Nope. If you wanna do that, you gotta write it down or something. It kinda sucks.

But, for running away, nope. And thankfully so. [Duo saw the movie with the transforming robots. The little spidery looking one had been pretty nasty. For a little robot...]

But, yeah... a few people have tried. Usually, things go really wrong when that happens. Like the whole dome shuts down and does weird things to people.

You're telling me. [Bart hates writing stuff down, but it's better than nothing. He'll just wait 'til tomorrow since, you know, he records'll still be available then AND he'll have his super-fast writing ability too.

The "transforming into a spider" thing had been a joke, so Bart can't hide his laugh in the slightest.]

Good thing they didn't take notes from the movies, then. But if the dome shuts down just from someone hacking into it... The next time that happens, you know who's not responsible. [Jeez, and he thought not being a hacker was a BAD thing.]

Same here. I mean, I've hacked a system or two in my time, but I do better with hardware hacking than software hacking. And, I haven't found the mainframe in this place.

You haven't? [Okay, that's a little worrisome.] For something that seems fully automated, that's more than a little fishy.

I wish I could help, but I'm more of a stealth-y guy. I just kinda grab information - and stuff - and go.

Yeah, but just because we haven't found it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It just means it's really well hidden. There is a building in Sector 0 that no one can seem to get into. It could be in there. Or at least, access to it could be in there. In the last dome, there was a building like that, and then you got into an elevator, and that took you waaaay down into an sub-dome kinda place that we weren't allowed in, and that was where the mainframe was installed.

Yeah. I kinda do that stuff, too. Get in, get what I need, get out. [Duo was fast, too, for a normal human, but no where near super speed.]

[It took him a solid minute, but he found the private filter!] Last prison? So this one isn't the first thing like it. [The news just keeps getting worse and worse, man.] I was gonna say, I might be able to vibrate through the building in Sector 0, but it'd take me a while.

Yeah? Sounds like we could make a pretty good team.

[Duo noticed the privacy level change. He adjusted his own filter as well, just in case.]

Hm. I've heard it's phase proof 'cuz we've got a couple of people who can do that, but I haven't heard of vibrating through something.

[And that almost sounded vulgar to Duo's 17-year-old brain.]

Probably. [He smirked a little.] What's the deal with the vibrating thing? If you don't mind me asking.

[If Bart sounds just a little bit cocky, it's because he is.] You know how I said I grab things and go? It's kinda because I've got super-speed.

So I can move at the speed of light - and since that's super fast, I can vibrate through anything, kinda like a ghost. But cooler.

Huh... without damaging what you're going through?

Well, yeah. You know how molecules bump up against each other at certain speeds, right? Solid molecules are faster than liquid, which's faster than gas...

If I move quick enough, I can get myself so that I'm moving faster than each individual molecule. Can't damage something I can't even touch, right? It's that kind of idea. [Pseudo-science! Bart's no chemistry expert, but he's got the basics down pat.]

Uh... kinda. [Any kind of academic science was a little over Duo's head. He learned from the school of real life, so that kind of stuff was a little over his head sometimes. Not that he couldn't learn if he wanted to sit in a class, but he didn't want to sit in a class...]

Makes some sense I guess. Sounds cool, actually. I wonder if you can do that with that building, too. I don't know specifically how the other people who can phase through stuff do it, like with all that yanno molecular stuff. But we could give it a try.

Just... yanno... be careful and stuff.

[ooc | oh wow i messed the speeds up, this is why i shouldn't tag at late hours! sorry]

There's no harm in trying, yeah. Just tell me what building and I'll see if I can go straight through it.

With those other people, I don't think it works like my speed, but it's gotta be something similar. [Because there's got to be a rational and logical explanation for it!]

{OOC: LOL... I was wondering about that, but that's cool. Duo's not the type to nitpick things he never learned about. :D If it was Tieria, I would have poked you first because he would have corrected Bart, and probably in a snotty way. u_u /sigh/ Tieria...]

Alright.

We can check it out in a few days, then. I'm pretty sure it's the big black building in Sector 0.
