My, my, this is quite the development. Get unlawfully incarcerated, get a free Skype account and a reject Xbox headset. Microsoft ditched this design for a reason, but it's good to know that access to social media isn't limited to the footloose and fancy free. They can cross being biased against the criminally charged off their would be lawsuits -- if any of these charges happened to be valid, that is. You seem to be lacking a proper judicial system. Get one. The Big Brother look isn't good a look on anyone, and I have zero interest in playing along with your little game of transdimensional authoritarian checkers, Stalin and Mussolini. [ that'd be you, conscienti and veridical. ]

As for the pocket placement itself, sans your little list o' crimes... [ a shrug of indifference. ] As a good friend of mine once said, "Go to heaven for the climate, hell for the company."

[ not like he's got anything better to do -- at least, not at the moment. give it time, he'll grow bored and restless, and start rattling the bars on his underwater cage soon enough. neither will stop him from being difficult, though. ]

Anyone know if this thing happens to do Guitar Hero?

Do you realize how rare it is for me to come across anyone outside of the motherland who speaks Serbian? Rusty Serbian is better than no Serbian at all. And I'm willing to bet you're not as bad as you think.

No seriously, it really is bad. I wouldn't even want to attempt to speak it.

[ Being around for five hundred plus years had taught her a few things but it didn't mean she remembered them all.]

And I'm guessing that it's quite rare. You probably won't find anyone else here who is fluent in it but I don't know for certain.

I could always speak to you in another tongue of your choosing. English isn't even among the first three languages I learned.

[ polyglots. such showoffs. (not that he isn't a showoff without showcasing his linguistic repertoire.) ]

As tempting as that is, I think I'll stick with English. Although, I am curious as to what languages you can speak if you'd like to share.

Let's see... There's Serbian, Croatian, German, Hungarian, English, Czech, French, Italian, Latin, a few of the Hindi tongues, and Ancient Sumerian. I've dabbled in a few others and can converse decently in them if needed be, but those are the ones I speak the most fluently.

Is that all? [Rose asks, her tone a little teasing.] I was half expecting you to list them in alphabetical order but still, that is impressive.

I'm wondering if you could clarify something for me though. How do you know of Skype and Xbox, as well as Guitar Hero if you haven't been around to see them being invented? Unless you discovered how to time travel.

Oh, they're in order -- just in the order I learned them.

Why does everyone assume I learned how to time travel? [ because you're utterly brilliant, that's why. ] While I don't doubt I'd be able to figure it out, time isn't something I'd ever tamper with. There are too many variables, not to mention risk of damaging the timeline. Always time travel, never the actual answer to their questions. [ he shakes his head, sighs. ] Let's just say that I'm a lot older than I look.

Well, I was going to ask whether or not you were immortal but time travel came to my mind first because of your background and discoveries. [but this new information was interesting.]

Would you believe me if I told you that I am a lot older than I look too?

Immortal would be correct. [ but he's been telling everyone else that he simply stumbled upon the secrets to longevity while conducting blood experiments -- which isn't a lie, it's just a bit more complicated than that, and that particular story is more helen's and not his. ]

Actually, yes. Such things aren't as farfetched as they may seem.

I'm five hundred and sixty years old, give or take a few days. I was sired in the latter half of the fifteenth century and witnessed a great many changes throughout history.

[she's glad that he encrypted this conversation because rose didn't want everyone to know what she was, unless it was through choice.]

Only a handful of people know this about me.

Sired. As in... bitten, not born?

[ forgive the incredulousness. his type of vampire is the opposite: born, not bitten. humans being turned into vampires is the thing of myth, legend, and hollywood -- as well as failed experimentation on his own part when he tried to revive the race. ]

Interesting. Where I'm from that's all Hollywood nonsense, rumors spread by the ancients to detour hunters and rebels.

[ as for himself... ] I was "vamped," so to speak, in 1886. I was at Oxford and I took part in a blood experiment. Needless to say, I managed to unintentionally awaken dormant sanguine vampiris genes that I inherited from vampiric ancestors I didn't know I had.

I'm 155 years old. You've got me beat.

I do have you beat. [She smirks a little.] When it comes to vampires in my world, the older you are, the faster and stronger you are.

Vampire ancestors-who would have thought. The differences between us are something else. I'd like to know more if you're willing to share. I'd tell you about me and my kind in return.

For my own curiosity of course. I wouldn't tell anyone else.

I wouldn't know. [ except afina had been a couple thousand years older than him and she had been absurdly strong once she'd fed. but she was also a full blood vampire and he was merely a halfling, a hybridize something or other of human, abnormal, and vampire DNA. quite the melting pot, he was. ]

My dear, I would be very interested in learning more about my vampire cousins, so to speak. [ grin -- an honest one, too. had this been presented to him differently, he would've been outright mocking it from the get go, given how ludicrous it sounds in comparison to his own type of vampire. ever the scientist, however, he is curious. very curious. (and likely to mock later, though probably at other targets.) ]

Thank you. I had my death faked for a reason, my vampirism being one of them. Wouldn't call it a weakness so much as... well, how do you explain to the US Government that the reason you're not aging is because your a vampire? [ the parts of it that hadn't known anyway; like eisenhower, but you know how "military secrets" go. ]

[her bloodline could be traced back to the Original vampires and they were a thousand years old, strongest of them all. they were also complete gits but Rose was refraining from telling him that at the moment but since some of them were here, maybe he should know.]

Then I shall gladly tell you about them, Nikola. In person might be best, even though this conversation is private, something like this is better face to face. [rose suggests with a smile because it could prove to be fun as well as a once in a (many) life-time opportunity. sharing knowledge may be useful.]

Which is why I stayed under the radar for the majority of my life. People ask questions when one doesn't age beyond their mid-twenties. Apart from that, I couldn't go out in the daylight. Being burnt to a crisp is not a look I go for.

[ a couple months ago, nikola would've been very interested in finding a way to trace his specific vampire ancestry back as far as he could, but since that run in with afina in east africa, his point of view as changed somewhat dramatically. his interest in his vampiric ties isn't as strong as it once was, the final point in a wake up call he's needed since he resurfaced in rome after sixty years of self-imposed seclusion. ]

Another non-commonality. Sunlight? Not a problem for the sanguine vampiris. I imagine going out in the daylight isn't a problem here in faux solar radiation ville?

No problem at all and it's nice to feel some warmth on my skin again, even if it is fake. I miss being human sometimes but being a vampire has its perks, I won't deny that.

[ she stops there, not wishing to get overly sentimental about it. ]

I live off blood bags. No feeding from anyone.

Why ever would you miss being ordinary? [ because he views both being an abnormal and being a vampire as being extraordinary. he doesn't miss being ordinary, and it took him quite some time to adjust to being "normal" again after he lost his vampirism, but even then he hadn't enjoyed the humbling experience that it was for him. even if he'd needed it. ]

Good, good. Not that I'd blame you for feeding from people, but I imagine that's frowned upon in a place like this.

Because I could have had a family. A chance at a proper life instead of just drifting through it aimlessly. [she would argue that some humans were extraordinary despite their frailties and weaknesses; rose knew one extraordinary girl and she counted her as a friend. maybe he couldn't understand that but it's how she felt.]

It would be considered breaking the rules and I don't wish to do that. As tempting as it can be to do it, I won't.

[ family. nikola had one of those, though not in the married and assisted in the spawning of offspring sense. he had siblings, though, and through them, he technically was still in possession of one, though they had no idea that great-great-whatever-great uncle nikola was still alive and kicking. helen's staging of his death, and the funeral that followed, and done well enough to convince even his own blood relations. his siblings' descendents may not be aware of him, but he was aware of them in spite of the distance he maintained. he makes a silent point to keep tabs on them, from william to danijela, though he'd never admit to it. not even to helen. ]

I suppose I can relate, though not in the familial sense. [ because being "dead" and being seemingly unable to outdo himself made it hard to make other profound marks upon the world around him. ]

Some rules are meant to be broken, but perhaps its best to avoid getting stuck with one of those ridiculous punishments I've been hearing about.

Well, there's not much I can do about it now. [All she could do was to live out her life here and make the most of it while it was possible. She had a few good things going in this place and Rose wouldn't want to give them up. She was content.]

I don't think I'll even bend the rules just in case. The punishments are bloody stupid and not worth the trouble as far as I am concerned.

But hey, this place does have some good points.

I'd offer to find a way to reanimate you, but Dr. Frankenstein was fictional for a reason. [ there are some things you just don't tamper with. ...a second time, since he's sort of done the human experimentation thing when he was off the rails with obsession a while back. oops? ]

I'd decline anyway. [Because she really wouldn't want to subject herself to something like that, especially when just about anything could go wrong and well, Rose found it a little disturbing to say the least.]

My friends are here. I've made new friends. Got a place of my own and I can walk beneath in a harmless sun. What's not to like?

Well, should you ever need the master of electricity in your corner, say the word and I'm there. [ he means it. he's a man of his word -- sometimes. more now than before. those first few fresh out of isolation years were a little bumpy and weren't full of his best choices, though he'd be loathe to admit it. ]

Suppose I'll see for myself whether I like it here or not. A few hours worth of standing around in a powerless state is hardly anything to go by.
