✝ Action with Spencer Reid
Derek smiled brightly when he saw Reid walk into the athletic complex almost right on time to when they’d agreed to meet. He’d almost expected him to find an excuse not to show since this wasn’t really Reid’s thing, so he was really more than happy that he did. He’d wanted some time with his friend to see how he was really doing and this was as good excuse as any without being overly obvious that he was checking up on him. Reid could really just be happy that Derek wasn’t busting down his door again and pushing his way in. Improvement? Yes. Never let it be said that Derek couldn’t grow and change… kind of.

He stood up from the chair he’d been sitting in and picked up his bag. He’d already claimed a room to work in, like he usually did. One hand clapped down on Reid’s shoulder and squeezed. “Hey pretty boy. Almost thought you might not show.”

✝ Action with Rogue
For weeks now Derek and Rogue had been working privately with each other. It was actually working with her that had made him think about giving more lessons in self-defense… maybe even starting a class. But it was still just an idea he was toying with more than one he was actually putting into motion. Not that he would turn down anyone who wanted to learn or spar. He just wasn’t advertising it yet.

He was in his normal room that he occupied with a nice mat on a part of the floor. When Rogue came in, he smiled in her direction. “Hey, pretty girl. Doin’ alright? You get caught up in that mess yesterday?”

✝ Open Action for anyone and everyone
For the better part of the morning Derek will be at the Athletic Complex in Sector one. He’ll probably break for lunch and then head into the Defense Force Headquarters in Sector Two for a bit to do some work. Anyone is free to run into him in either place or in the in-between.

[Lacus finds herself again without a training partner, but that hasn't stopped her from practicing. Just now she's taking apart a training dummy with speed and skill that should be pretty darn impressive to the average onlooker, particularly if they're not used to a petite pink-haired girl kicking large amounts of ass.]

[She waves at Derek cheerfully in between a series of roundhouse kicks that would leave anyone else very dizzy.]

	[It's her speed and skill that has him stopping to watch. He really doesn't mean to stare but... well, she looks super human in how she moves. It's worth staring at and taking note of. I've had a bit of training since I arrived here. [She issues one last powerful kick to the dummy's flank and then grabs her towel and dabs at her face as she trots over the Derek.] I had a very disturbing experience early on, which I felt could be avoided in the future if I were better able to protect myself.

Unfortunately, my sparring partners have gone a bit astray. ["Poof gone" in other words.]

Hey, that shows initiative. I get it. [It meant that Lacus wasn't a victim. And Derek liked it when he found that in people. He could relate to people who tried to turn victimization into something positive.]

It looks like you've been taught well. I'd offer to spar with you, but I don't move near as fast as you do. [He grins a bit. He's a big, bulky guy. And yeah, he knows how to handle himself and moves pretty quick for the average human. But roundhouse kicks at that speed? He was nowhere near that fast or light on his feet. And he knew his limitations.]

	Speed isn't everything in a fight, I've learned. Your strength far outmatches mine, for instance, and I'm still a beginner in terms of holds and releases. [She smiles amicably.] I'm certain I will have a great deal to learn from you. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	[That makes her think for a second. She never really was given a formal title for any of it.] I'm not certain. I've had a few trainers here, but it all seemed very focused on self defense. When I found myself without instruction I did some reading on martial arts and have been experimenting with the forms. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	I'm proficient in judo and basic self defense if you're ever interested in sparing or learning one or the other. [Back when Faith had been in the prison, Derek had sparred with her. She had natural enhancements and learning in her favor and he had done okay. Although he always got the feeling that she was holding back with him. But still, his curiosity led him to nod. He wanted to know what Coordinators could do... and what a Coordinator was.]

What's a coordinator? [The question is asked as he drops down into a comfortable fighting stance. He lifts his chin, a silent welcome for her to come at him on offense.]

[She effortlessly adopts a similar stance, one Neil taught her when they began, and executes a simple but fast set of arm-strike attempts. None are expected to connect, though if she happens to, she's prepared, with the heel of her hand leading rather than her knuckles to avoid injuring either of them -- but rather, she's testing his speed.]

Coordinators have genetic enhancements that give us increased stamina, strength, balance, intelligence, and healing abilities. Although that's not to say we excel in any given activity more than a natural human. [No gene can account for hard work and determination.]
