Day 209 ✝ Action
✝ Action with Spencer Reid
Derek smiled brightly when he saw Reid walk into the athletic complex almost right on time to when they’d agreed to meet. He’d almost expected him to find an excuse not to show since this wasn’t really Reid’s thing, so he was really more than happy that he did. He’d wanted some time with his friend to see how he was really doing and this was as good excuse as any without being overly obvious that he was checking up on him. Reid could really just be happy that Derek wasn’t busting down his door again and pushing his way in. Improvement? Yes. Never let it be said that Derek couldn’t grow and change… kind of.

He stood up from the chair he’d been sitting in and picked up his bag. He’d already claimed a room to work in, like he usually did. One hand clapped down on Reid’s shoulder and squeezed. “Hey pretty boy. Almost thought you might not show.”

✝ Action with Rogue
For weeks now Derek and Rogue had been working privately with each other. It was actually working with her that had made him think about giving more lessons in self-defense… maybe even starting a class. But it was still just an idea he was toying with more than one he was actually putting into motion. Not that he would turn down anyone who wanted to learn or spar. He just wasn’t advertising it yet.

He was in his normal room that he occupied with a nice mat on a part of the floor. When Rogue came in, he smiled in her direction. “Hey, pretty girl. Doin’ alright? You get caught up in that mess yesterday?”

✝ Open Action for anyone and everyone
For the better part of the morning Derek will be at the Athletic Complex in Sector one. He’ll probably break for lunch and then head into the Defense Force Headquarters in Sector Two for a bit to do some work. Anyone is free to run into him in either place or in the in-between.

"Thanks," she replied, blushing faintly. Bonnie wasn't expecting to get a compliment today but she wouldn't be annoyed by it. She dropped her hand to her side after he let it go, rocking on her heels a little.

Bonnie felt a bit awkward. Maybe it was because she was lost or because of the compliment.

"Hmm, not such a fan of sushi but a burger and fries sounds good." The kind of food that Bonnie would eat back home at the grill. It made her feel homesick.

"Good choice. There's this place called Merlotte's over here in Sector Four. It's got good comfort food." He starts to slowly walk in that direction, letting her come with him. It was a pace that was more of a stroll than one with any real purpose since he wasn't by himself anymore.

"It's also a bar, but they've really got the best greasy burger in the prison. Sorta reminds me of this place back where I grew up. This building was like a shack on the outside, run down and didn't look like much at all." He grins again at the memory. "But when I was a kid and there was any special occasion, my dad would take us there and this guy made the best burgers, greasy and messy like a real burger should be..."

"Sounds great." Bonnie replies with a smile. She had been to Merlotte's before but she didn't have a drink as she was underage. Not that had stopped Bonnie back home-she was keeping that to herself. "Hearing that reminds me of the place I go to back home on a regular basis. It's called the Mystic Grill and it has the best food. I miss it."

Okay, that was getting a little bit maudlin so Bonnie decides to cheer herself up and focus on the positive instead.

"You seem to know your way around the prison. Have you been here a long time or do you just have an amazing memory?"

That showed she had willpower since there was no drinking age here in the prison, apparently. Derek had been in bars in the prison a few times and seen people who were way too young boozing it up. Strange how the Wardens were so black and white on pointing the finger about crimes but didn't seem to care about some of them within the prison.

He smirked and shook his head. "Nah, I've been here awhile. Know the place pretty well. One of my best friends has an eidetic memory though, remembers everything. Gets annoying sometimes but helpful for the work we do back home."

He glanced over to her. "Where you from?"

"I'm from a small town in Virginia. It's called Mystic Falls." A few people she had met here who weren't from home knew of it because they knew Elena and some of others who hailed from there.

The reason why Bonne hadn't drank because she was afraid that it would break the rules of the prison and she would get punished for it. Even if she was told that the punishments weren't always so bad-Bonnie decided not to risk it if possible.

"What line of work are you in back home and where are you from, Derek?" She may as well take the time to get to know him, especially if they were going to have lunch together.

Working in Virginia himself, he tried to mentally thumb through his knowledge of the state to decide if Mystic Falls sounded familiar. It didn't. But he wasn't raised in Virginia so his knowledge of the state wasn't as up to par as someone who had lived there their whole life might have been. He hadn't really had the opportunity to explore all the nooks and crannies of Virginia.

"Virginia here too. I work with the FBI out of Quantico, a division called the Behavioral Analysis Unit." At Merlotte's he pulled the door open for her and waited for her to go in before he followed her in. "Was born and raised in Chicago though. So I haven't been in Virginia my whole life."

He gestured toward an empty booth. "After you, Bonnie Bennett."

"The FBI?" Bonnie's eyebrows rise up a little as she takes that in. "Oh, wow. I haven't met anyone who works for the FBI before." It's safe to say that she was impressed as well as interested. When he opened up the door for her, Bonnie stepped inside and looked around the place, glancing back at him. "I've never been to Chicago. Actually, I haven't been out of Virginia much except to visit relatives."

Too many responsibilities and worries at home for Bonnie to focus on rather than travelling. It sucked but she had to keep her friends safe from harm.

"Thanks, Derek Morgan," she replied with a smile as she made her way towards the booth and slid into the nearest seat.

"I had never been much of anywhere either until I went away to College. Now I've been pretty much everywhere in the continental U.S." Granted, much of that was working serial cases around the country. So they hadn't exactly been pleasure trips. "Maybe someday you'll get to travel and see other places too."

Derek smiled when she used his first and last name the way he had with her, then he slid into the seat across from her. Almost immediately one of the waitresses was there to ask them what they wanted to drink, and Derek asked for some coffee and a water.

"Chicago's a nice enough place. Where I grew up, it was the wrong side of the tracks, pretty run down, lots of gang activity. But Chicago's got it's nicer places too."

Bonnie ordered some orange juice for herself when the waitress asked, watching as she left before turning her attention back to Derek.

"I think you could probably say about that most places. Mystic Falls has its bad parts as well as its good parts but it's my home. I wouldn't trade it for the world."

Her friends were there and she wouldn't want to be apart from them should anything happen. Bonnie had to look out for them no matter what. They had been through so much already and she wanted to prevent anything else if it was possible. That same vow was carried to here in the prison.

"Probably so. Plus Chicago has Oprah." He smiled and laughed a little, shaking his head. Even as he said it, he could hear his mother's voice going on and on about it. "My momma loves to brag about that to anyone who'll listen."

Of course, that memory eventually turned sour because of the fact that he was here and couldn't call home to check on her. His guilt over only making it home once a year weighed heavy on him. He had lots of reasons for not wanting to visit Chicago all that often, but he should have worked past those and visited his mom more often.

He tried to cover up that dip in his mood in thanks to his train of thought by posing a random assumption. "So I guess you're still relatively new here."

Bonnie was the opposite. Her relationship with her own mother was tenuous at best and it would take some time (not to mention a lot of open mindedness on his part) to explain the reasons why. There wasn't a day that went by when Bonnie didn't think about her mom.

She did notice the slight downturn in his voice but said nothing of it. Wasn't really her business to pry.

"You guessed right," she replied with a nod as their drinks arrived. Bonnie took a moment to thank their server before turning back to him. "I think I'm past the whole 'oh my god, I'm stuck in a prison' line of thinking now though."

“Hey, it took me a long time to get past that part. To tell you the truth, I’ve only really started to settle in here in the past few weeks. And even then, it’s not a very solid settling in.” He waved his hand in a way that could have meant this bar or the entire prison. “There’s a lot of stuff here that doesn’t exist where I’m from. So I guess I had a lot of… mind-blown moments.”

"Yeah?" She leaned forward, looking interested. Maybe he had encountered a few vampires or saw magic first hand. None of those things would blow her mind but Bonnie didn't want to tell him what she was and the power she had just yet. Derek seemed trustworthy enough but she was concerned that he mightn't take so well to what she had to tell him.

"What kind of stuff?" Bonnie asked, sipping from her drink.

"People from other planets, people with powers that shouldn't be possible." Derek shook his head, considering how much to say without either making her think he's crazy or making himself feel like he's gone crazy, both of which are very much possible. None of this stuff existed where he was from.

He pauses, looks up to her, bracing for whatever reaction he got. "Vampires, werewolves... things you'd only see in movies and TV where I'm from. Crazy."

Her reaction isn't one of shock or fear but mild surprise. "Yeah, crazy. But hey, look at where we are. An underwater prison with robot guards and punishments and a few other things I'm probably not aware of yet. Are those kinds of creatures really a stretch?"

Bonnie's question of him was deliberate because she wanted to see if he was truly against things like magic. Being a witch wasn't always easy, even where she was from.

Her point was valid, he smirked and nodded, waiting for their food to be laid out in front of them before he continued with the conversation. "Yeah, you should've seen me when I first got here. With all the crazy I see on the job back home, I still had a tough time wrappin' my mind around all of this. Had to redefine crazy, you know?"

He shrugged, picking up a ketchup bottle and squirting some onto his plate by the fries. "Course now I'm gettin' used to it. Same desensitization with all of this that happens with work back home. And I guess I can accept... that there are worlds where all this stuff is possible with all the evidence laid out in front of me like this."

"I can imagine," Bonnie agreed. She dealt with crazy on a regular basis so it wasn't any different to her really; well, maybe the being imprisoned part, despite this place being open and full of amenities. Her food looked quite appetizing and the smell of it was enough to make her mouth water.

When he was done with the ketchup bottle, Bonnie reached for it and put some on her burger and then some onto her plate to dip her fries into. "At least you're getting used to it and becoming more open to the idea. Better than freaking out." She laughed a little, picking up a fry and dipping into the ketchup before eating it. "You seem to be the kind of guy who can keep his cool. Am I right?"
