[ Event: Mist, Fog, Monsters ]
Marina's streets are shrouded in mist tonight. It's suddenly gotten strangely cold, and snow has started to fall. Or is that ash, when you reach out to touch it? Maybe it's just smoke from the fireworks....?
Be careful heading home -- random street corners seem to have been mysteriously replaced with deep, gaping chasms, so you may have to find an alternate route.
And, oh yes... there are monsters waiting for you in the fog.
NOTE: Everything in this post only applies to your character if they have darkness in their hearts. If your character has ever killed another person, or would ever kill another person, they will see these effects. If your character has ever experienced something violent that haunted them -- whether or not it is their fault, whether or not the situation was later corrected, whether or not they remember it -- they will see these effects. They are, after all, created by your character's subconscious. The worse the darkness, the worse the effects. However, a character who is from a school drama and thus has little experience with violence and is a deeply good person might see nothing at all.
There is a little wiggle room, though, if you really want your character to see monsters, and a character with more darkness in his or her heart can (optionally) experience more drastic effects.
height: 5'8"
weight: 160lbs
difficulty: medium alone, but they always travel in packs
found: all sectors, outside
They are stooped, two-legged creatures with smallish arms and large, powerful hind legs that sport a single, mean-looking curved claw. (More specifically, they look rather like velociraptors.) Where their flesh isn't torn apart to expose muscle and bone, it is are covered in crumpled, molting feathers that are, if you've been in the Asylum for a while, a familiar deep purple.
The Lizards will use all of the weapons at their disposal to maim you: their teeth, in short biting strikes; the smaller claws on their "hands", which are mildly venomous like the claws of a cat; and of course their nasty toe claws, which can seriously injure you if you aren't careful. They have a tendency to jump in order to close the distance between themselves and you, and their jump is startlingly powerful.
height: 4'5"
weight: 40lbs
difficulty: medium
found: all sectors, outside
Her puppet strings are broken and trail behind her on the ground, but they are bound and twisted around her wrists and ankles, cracking through her porcelain shell and cutting into the flesh underneath, staining it with the dark ichor of her blood. Her head is faceless and hangs at a crooked angle, as if her slender neck is broken. Where her heart might once have been, there is instead an ugly gaping hole about the size of a man's fist.
She has two modes of attack: long-range and close up. From a distance, a Puppet will use her strings, lashing out with and attempting to entangle you, then flicking her wrists and ankles to tighten their grip. Unfortunately, these strings are sharp enough to cut skin. At close range, a Puppet will actually grab onto you with her small hands and you will discover that the hole in her chest contains what feels like rows and rows of sharp teeth that protrude and bite into any part of you she can manage.
Extremely sensitive to sound, so tiptoe around her and you won't have a fight on your hands.
1. No one can see monsters on video or in photographs, not even the person who was right there, recording it!
2. The monsters are edible, but not very tasty, FYI.
3. We are indeed taking monster inspiration from your answers to that question on the meme. There will also be one or two old Silent Hill favorites.
4. People who travel together will experience similar distortions of reality, unless one of them has no darkness in his or her heart at all; in that case, that character will not see, feel, or in any other way sense the monsters that are attacking their companions.
5. And speaking of senses, there's no magic or any other kind of energy involved in the monsters for characters with such abilities to pick up on. As far as characters who can see the monsters can tell, they're just real, living creatures and give off no particularly strange energy; as far as characters who can't see the monsters can tell, there's nothing there at all.
6. If you trip into one of the holes, you will fall for a while. Eventually, you will black out, and wake up the next morning in the middle of a perfectly ordinary street.
7. Both monster blood and monster bodies will disappear. Monster bodies do so when you're not looking at them -- maybe they've been eaten by other monsters? -- and the blood will be gone in the morning.
