With a date and time decided upon and a message sent out to all involved, all that was left was to wait. Pepper'd had the foresight to set out some snacks and drinks for the meeting, so Tony stole the plate of cheese and crackers to nibble on until everyone arrived.
Once JARVIS had directed the last person up to the penthouse, Tony reluctantly parted with the cracker plate and stood up. He was technically in charge at the moment. Guess that meant he should make it look like he knew what he was doing.
"Hey everyone, thanks for coming. I'm not one for big speeches," he said, turning to look pointedly at Selina and daring her to comment, "so I'll make this brief. I've called you here today because we've all expressed interest in forming some sort of super group to make sure the Serpent doesn't destroy life as we know it. I know Elizabeth has her army, but sometimes soldiers just don't cut it. We're used to dealing with some pretty weird stuff. I mean, Thor and I helped take care of an alien invasion not too long ago. I exploded a space whale from the inside, it was kinda gross -
"Anyway, point is, we've got a little more experience with this sort of thing." He paused, hands in his pockets as he surveyed the rest of the room. Sure, maybe they'd punched out an alien or two, but that didn't mean they were suddenly experts. Jesus, what were they doing, this was going to be a catastrophe. "First order of business is introductions. I suggest getting very well acquainted with the people sitting next to you because we'll need to learn how to work together if we want to keep people safe." And isn't that a funny statement coming from Tony, the king of being uncooperative.
"Second, for those who haven't heard yet, the expedition turned out to be something of a success. In short, we found a whole weapons-testing facility down there, plus what looks like, as far as we can tell, some sort of computer archive, a lot of it pre-Serpent. I've spent the last couple of days sorting through everything we found. Hopefully this is just what we need to give us an advantage in kicking the Serpent's ass.
"And, uh, if anyone has any suggestions or things they think we should look into, let me or Pepper know. She'll be taking extensive notes." Tony glanced at her, as if mentally willing her to remind him if he'd forgotten anything. That doesn't work, however, so he just finishes with, "Any questions?"
