She could hear it with every breath. It became louder and louder as the seconds ticked away, turning from the distant sound of thunder rumbling in the horizon to the pounding of drums in her ears, stopping her brain. She tried to just concentrate on breathing. Maybe it would steady her raging thoughts, but there was no such luck.

Breathe in. thump, thump.

Breathe out. thump, thump.

Raina jumped when a hand slammed on her desk with a blank test. She had managed to fill out her name when it had been distributed the day before, but she had lost it after then. She had swirled in thoughts and daydreams and couldn't be expected to concentrate on a test. Darkened green eyes raised from the question mark written in red at the top of the page and to the older man who stood in front of her. The teacher tapped his hand, the nail clicking against the wooden desk. "See me after class." he said in a hushed voice. To her though, it was no less than a scream. He could have just proclaimed it to the entire classroom, the entire school. She stared at his face and tried not to think about the numerous faces she was sure were now staring at her. Wrinkles creased his face with age that he attempted to hide behind a pair of thin glasses that perched on a cocky, upturned nose.

An unexplainable anger bubbled inside of her like a pot of water on a heated stove.

As he stood there and stared, she felt her tiny hands curl into fists. It was a struggle to keep herself from screaming at him, calling him on that look that he was giving her, like she was a complete idiot. Nails dug into the fleshy palms and nicked hard enough into her skin that blood started to pool in the fresh wounds. But they wouldn't stay open long and she would be forced to push harder to bring the blood out again.

Then something happened.

The anger started to dissipate as a tiny flicker caught her attention. Clouded eyes focused on the jump of the vein in his neck. He took a breath and it jumped again. A new, yet equally familiar feeling rose to the surface with a vengeance. It filled her stomach like poison and started to slink through her body. She could see it clearly.

The skin was so thin and fragile anyway. It would be so easy to tear into it. It almost seemed like a cruel joke to leave such an important part of the body so very unprotected. Mesmerized by the flicker and the sound the filled her ears, intoxicating her mind, Raina hadn't realized she was now on her feet. When had she even moved? She couldn't remember. And she only knew she was standing by the way he jumped back a step and fumbled to fix his glasses. "Ms. Maris, back in your seat." He insisted, voice trying to be strong but she could hear the slight tremble in his words.

Raina ignored him and didn't even acknowledge his order. This would be the cure to all of her problems. She was craving that sweet metallic taste once again. What's more was that she had a craving for all things Desmond but hadn't seem from him at all in the past two weeks. Not in person, at least. But he did haunt her dreams, repeatedly taking her over and over, night after night. He snuck into her room the second she closed her eyes and tore her clothes from her skin. His hands greedily grasped at her body, mouth sliding along her skin. He claimed her time and time again, much like he had that first night in the woods. He set her skin on fire until she arose during the night in a sweaty heap, crying his name. She could choke on the desire, and almost did.

Afterwards, she would attempt to take a shower to help calm herself but the beads of water only teased her. They moved slow, like honey, down heated flesh in a million different places. Even now, two weeks later, it brought her to her knee. In the tub, it only took the blink of an eye for the water to have her crying with pleasure that could only mock the real thing that she wanted. Still, it brought her some kind of muted pleasure. But it never sated that desire inside of her. Nothing could.

But now, standing in front of a fragile older teacher, she knew exactly what she wanted. It was that blood. Sure it was human blood and it wasn't Desmond's blood, but the need for it was overwhelming. Anything had to help. And right now, the way she could tell it was flowing through him, it was teasing her, begging her to take it. She could almost hear a voice in her head, telling her it would be okay if she could just get that taste in her mouth. She would ignore the taste of flesh and let her mouth fill with the copper nectar. Yes, that's just what she needed. When the teacher turned and started to walk towards his desk, mumbling something about detention, there was an almost instinctual tug in her belly. Go get it, it told her. You want it. Take it.

There was a breath, before she started after him. A few voices in the class gasped and the teacher turned fast enough only to stumble backwards to his desk. Raina saw his neck, she could practically already taste the blood, then..

It was ripped away.

Wyatt Grayson was a member of that class room, and he hadn't completely been paying attention. Instead, he stared at the A marked on his paper before shuffling it into his folder with all the other A's. He wasn't necessarily smarter than anyone else, he just paid a lot of attention in class (even if the teacher's didn't think he heard a word they said.) At nights, with nothing else to do, he reread the texts and prepared for the assessments. As a personal rule, he also kept to himself--and outside of the full moon, he didn't ever consider changing into his furry counterpart, but there was something different today.

The girl two rows over him with the bright pink hair had been acting strangely for weeks. Observant as he was, Wyatt had noticed little things changing about her, like the way she didn't speak up in class anymore, and how she was often gripping her arms harder than should be comfortable. But what business of it was his to find out why?

It only became his business when he looked up and saw a familiar glance in her eyes. He knew it, because he'd been around plenty of animals before. And he would have stayed seated if she had simply stared the older man down. When there was a twitch, Wyatt knew exactly what was going to happen. He could now sense something that nearly knocked him out. And it was instinct only that had him jumping to his feet. Years of practice made the shift easy enough. Then, instead of a normal sized boy jumping at her, he became a sharp toothed wolf that tackled the pink headed girl just a step away from the teacher.

He growled when she gripped his fur as they hit the ground. She struggled against him as people in the class rose and backed up towards the other side of the room. He paid them no mind. What he couldn't stop thinking about was the blood lust he saw printed clearly in her eyes. She'd meant to hurt their teacher and that made her a danger, and dangerous creatures needed to be handled.

His jaw full of teeth sunk into her shoulder like a knife into hot butter. Blood instantly flowed from the wound and she let out a howl that told him he was hurting an actual person, not just a creature. Back pedaling, he loosened his hold on her shoulder and instead watched her carefully. It wasn't until she went for a second lunge that he snapped wildly at her arm, biting down until he could hear a snap. He pulled and tossed her out of the class room, standing tall in the doorway with bloody fur around his mouth, glaring at her, ready for another fight.

It was the snap that shocked her out of it. Rivulets of white hot pain shot up her arm and she could feel the slight throbbing in the back of her head from hitting one of the lockers outside of the classroom. Raina stared at the wolf, completely out of breath, and (taken by a sudden fear), stumbled to her feet and ran and quickly as she could. She passed students in the hall, ran up a staircase and didn't stop until she reached her dorm room (that she luckily didn't share with anyone else).

Slamming the door shut, Raina fell to the ground with hot tears stinging her eyes. The scent of blood took her over and she looked at the wounds that were trying to close but still bled pretty vigorously. Was her arm broken? She didn't care. Instead, she used her unharmed hand to help raise her arm (ignored the sharp pain) and brought the bloodied appendage to her mouth. But it was only adding fuel to the fire. She needed blood, but not this blood. This wasn't help enough. The tiny bit that it sated was not nearly enough and it had her pushing herself back against the corner with blood on her lips. She let out a scream, kicked the desk that was closest to her and closed her eyes, begging for something to relieve her.
