It was a dream that had Raina wanting to leave campus for the night.

Lately, most of her dreams had been dark and she woke aching, both physically and emotionally. Her mind was tired from screaming and she felt like she was spinning out of control. Last night she'd found herself in the middle of the woods. Her heart had been racing as her eyes dated around through the mass of trees that surrounded her. She could hear leaves cracking underfoot as something took a spin around the shadows. She turned to try and catch a glimpse but she just barely saw the back end of whatever it was as it disappeared once more. "Who's there?" She called out, though she didn't expect an answer.

Turning, her feet kicked up dirt as she started to run through the woods. Her body bumped into the thick tree trunks and she could feel the bruises appearing on her body. But she couldn't stop. Heart thumping, she continued to run as the creature, or whatever it was, got closer and closer to her. She head towards a clearing when the creature on her tail snagged her foot. Raina fell to the ground, feeling the dirt staining her face. Flipping herself on her back, she prepared for an attack but nothing was there. Out of breath, her eyes darted around the circle of the clearing. As she did, the trees around her started to grow crookedly, wickedly. The branches bent like fingers reaching for her menacingly.

She screamed and backed up until she could get to her feet. No sooner had she taken a step away from the reaching fingers then they had gripped her. They wrapped around her, pinning her arms at her sides as they roped around her waist. The other ones started to claw at her violently, like an animal tearing her flesh into ribbons. Blood dripped from her body until she woke up violently. Drenched in sweat, sheets tangled around her body, it took almost fifteen minutes to pull herself together and realize she'd been only dreaming. And they had been getting worse every night.

This last one had felt so real that when her eyes laid on the clock and she'd realized that she had slept all day, she decided there was really only one thing that she could do to calm the thoughts of blood and destruction.

And that was alcohol.

With a bottle of jack daniels shoved in her bag, she threw on a skirt (in the chance that she wanted to get in the water) and a tank top, followed by a pair of slip on flats. Then Raina was out the door. She didn't want to be there right now. All she wanted to feel was numb. She had been hoping that, much like what most people told her, the ache would lessen with time. She had been all but hoping that one day she would wake up and it would hurt less, even just a tiny bit, but she'd had no luck with that. Every morning hurt just as badly. What if she never recovered? She didn't want to be reckless, but she didn't want to be in pain. So she didn't waste any time getting down to the pond. Stopping beside the water, Raina sat down and pulled out the bottle of whiskey. It started with a few shots. The burning in her throat as she swallowed each shot helped, but she wanted more, needed more.

She wasn't sure how much time passed by a quarter of the bottle down, Raina was laying back on the ground, staring at the sky. She hummed to herself as she twisted the bottle open again and held it against her lips to take another sip. Her cheeks were flushed with the taste, eyes watery from the buzz.

This was definitely helping.

Jack raised an eyebrow at Raina as she tried to stare at him defiantly, his hand moving up her skirt. This was a challenge, and if there was one thing that you didn't really want to do it was to challenge him. So rather than to simply tease her slightly with it, he pressed his hand all the way to touch her, caress her through her panties until he got some sort of reaction from her, a gasp, a moan, perhaps even a bit of squirming, but Jack wasn't one to be deterred from it in the slightest. He would push the envelope as far as he really needed to in order to get a reaction from her. Perhaps it was something out of pride, or perhaps it was just to break all of the rules, but he would do it, he would go as far as he needed to in order to make life.... interesting.

But then, he decided to push the rules in a different way by helping her up. He felt her collide with him and his hand went around her waist as he felt her straigten slightly, his knee between hers, hiking that skirt up a little higher as he lingered there, looking at her. There was one thing for certain, Jack did have a sexy edge to him. He was the sexy bad boy to defy all of what the quiet Desmond stood for, and it was clear in the look that his near black eyes gave her that if she decided that she wanted to try something with him she'd bettered be ready for a handful indeed. A slow smile spread across his features though, as he knew that he was going to be dropping a bomb on her.

"I'm not patronizing you, Pinky. I'm dead fucking serious." Jack said, grabbing her arm, and turning her around to look him in the eye. "You want to be like me, then it's time that you start losing people you care about." He said, stepping towards her again. "Fuck, I'll kill him for you if you're too scared to do it yourself. But if you don't want to feel anything the way that I do, then he needs to die. Take it or leave it." He said, letting her go. She would refuse, of course, she didn't have any intention of killing this guy that she was after. Fuck, if anything he expected that she was probably going to wind up pounding on his door one of these days, calling him on his bullshit. But she didn't fucking know that, of course, and that meant that tonight she was open to whatever it was he wanted to do. On an off night he probably would have taken her up on it...

But fucked if he wasn't feeling too nice tonight. "Suit yourself, party girl." he said with a shrug. "But let's get one thing straight... you can't be me, no matter how much you want to. Unless you're there to see them die... you have no idea what real pain is." he said simply, shaking his head a little. "Fuck, your story about McEmoPants is rubbing off on me." he muttered a little, shaking his head. Of course, out of the blue suddenly she ripped out and let out a nice swear that belted across the lake... causing him to smirk a little as he went to sit on a high enough rock that he had to hop up a little to do it.

"Good work. See how easy that was? Not bad, for an amatuer there, pinky. The real question is are you going to follow it up with what you want to do? It felt good because you cut through the goddamned bullshit and did what it was that you wanted to do instead of listening to someone else for a change. So think about what you want to do and just do it, instead of giving a shit about what the world thinks. You didn't want to break up with him, but you let him call the shots... so go find him push him down and fuck his brains out.... make him realize exactly what he's missing and then leave him in the morning and tell him he was a lousy lay in the sack..." Jack said with a chuckle.

"Or fuck his best friend... pull out the other girl's hair. Fuck, I don't know what it is that you want, Pinky. But you've been bottling this horse shit up inside of you too long, and it's going to make you explode. So stop thinking about all the shit that you want to do, suck it up, and just fucking do it, instead of giving a shit about what people might think..."

What have you been through, Jack Daniels? Raina questioned, but didn't utter out loud. The way he spoke about real pain and the people she loved dying jumped out like a rattlesnake that sunk it's teeth into her skin, slowly spreading venom through her body. The pieces were easily put together as she remembered one of the reasons why he said guys get drunk. One of them had involved a dead ex-girlfriend. She was curious if that had been what happened to him. He spoke of being there and watching someone die. The pain of that had to be unbearable, and what she was going through was nothing compared to that kind of ache.

He said the real question was whether she was going to follow it up with what she wanted to do. For Raina, the real question was how hadn't she gone after it before now. She had tried and tried to tell Desmond that she knew what she wanted and that he was it, but she never really went after it. She told him, sure, but that wasn't the same. She thought about her options as she listened to Jack speak. Every word he said made more sense then the one before.

If she wanted to be like him and just do what she wanted to do, then that's where she had to start. She needed to just do it. In the end, it may not be the entire future she saw for herself but it would make her stronger. And isn't that really what Jack represented to her? The ability to be strong and to be fearless about getting what it is you desire. That's definitely where she needed to start. "You know, you're pretty good at this counseling thing, Mr. Daniels." Raina walked over to the rock he sat on and put her hands on his knees. She was well aware of the position she was in and what it would be good for considering the angle he was at and her short stature.

Using his knees, Raina lifted herself a little and leaned in to give him a kiss on his cheek. "I want to do that first. And say thank you." She had needed the things he had said much more than she could have thought. "This little alcohol therapy cursing session was just what the doctor ordered." Stepping back, Raina leaned to pick up her shoes and held them in her hands. She didn't have a moment to waste with stopping to put them on. However, as she started to walk off, she looked back at Jack. She considered what he said about taking Desmond and then saying he was a lousy lay and turned it a little. Smirking, she said, "Oh and that little feeling up session we had? Worst one of my life." It was a tease and her smile said as much.

It wasn't just the alcohol talking when she said she hoped that they could meet up again. Jack was something unique and she appreciated that about him.

As she thought about him though, a movement in the shadows by the tree line caught her attention. Tell me it wasn't this easy, Raina thought as she stopped walking and turned. It felt like her heart stopped and Raina could only assume that he meant to be seen. Surely if he hadn't she wouldn't have laid eyes on him. "I shouldn't be surprised," she said, voice only slightly holding that edge of slurring from the alcohol. Jack's words were in her head.

..you let him call the shots.

..instead of listening to someone else for a change..

..think about what you want to do and just do it.

Just do it. Dropping her shoes, Raina walked over to him and refused to let any inhibitions get in her way. She was angry that he got to dictate what happened and was going to make up for it now. She closed the short distance between the two of them, leaned up on her tippy toes when she was close enough and fell against his chest. Her fingers curled into the long duster that she knew he'd be wearing, tightening into fists to hold him close. She pressed her mouth against his with an aggression she wasn't exactly known for. But it felt incredible. No matter what happened. Everything in this moment felt unbelievable.
