"Gabriel Jackson Daniels. I swear if there is a girl up in your room that you are not telling me about young man..." It was stated in the tone that every young child learns to fear from birth, so it was no real surprise that the color rapidly drained from the scrawny young boy's face as he looked at the rather pretty girl who was sitting next to him, looking equally as nervous as he was. The young boy bit his lip a little as he went up and lightly pressed his back to the door, pausing for a moment too long, not really having learned yet that the key to a convincing lie was to act natural. Looking around his room he frantically searched for somewhere to deposit his guest, to hide her away for both of their sakes.
His closet, however, was more than jammed full of X-men and Superman comic books, as well as various gadgets and things to build, everything as simple as lego creations he had made to little experiments that he had done that he'd wanted to keep like a potato clock he'd made for a science festival along with magazines and various parts from the electronic things that he had diassembled and promised he'd put back together only to have forgotten about them and not ever put them back together again.
Underneath his bed was a similar story, and he winced as he saw the girl helplessly looking under it at the clutter only to give him a panicked angry look as sounds began to errupt from the house. Slowly a steady 'thud thud thud' began to come from the downstairs, like a great monster rising from the depths of the sea to come find him. He could feel his mouth getting dry as he tried to think of what to do. Taking in a breath then he did his best to calm the nervousness in his voice as he called out loud "Uhm, it's just me up here... mom..." Jack said, sounding about as natural as a kid with his hands in the cookie jar. He could tell that he wasn't convincing anyone as well, wincing a little as he heard the thumping get a bit louder and felt as the doorknob was jiggled and the door attempted to be opened.
"I'm not decent mom!" he stuttered out at the last minute, and then heard the one thing he had feared the most the sound of his father coming up the stairs after his mother, his noticeably heavier footsteps coming as he paused outside of the door with his wife. Jack winced knowing what almost assuredly would come next, and he grimaced as he slowly stepped away from the door, looking at it with the pleading that for some reason the two of them might just go away. He could easily sneak the girl out the window with the rope bridge he'd made to the sturdy bridge across the way.
"I think this is guy time then, sweetie. I'll be right back..." the boy's father said as he winced, and then slipped in the door, closing it behind him before his mother could see anything. Noticing the girl, he blinked a little, looking at the boy, and then did the one thing that he had not expected the older man to do. He smiled softly at him, and gave him a wink. "Don't worry sweetie, he's just changing, I'm sure he'll be down in a minute." The boy's father waited a moment until he heard footsteps down the stairs before he shook his head and came up and ruffled the boy's already mussed haircut.
"She's quite a looker, Gabriel. Are you going to introduce me now that I've covered for you?"
"Uhm... yeah... Dad, this is Jennifer... and this is my dad..." Gabriel said, scratching the back of his head as he looked down at his shoes, feeling embarassed.
Jennifer smiled beautifully though, in the way that she always did, extending her hand out towards Gabriel's father. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir. We weren't doing anything up here, just talking."
It was the truth. Gabriel didn't have the first clue what to do with a girl, anyway. Jennifer had offered to come over here so that he could help her study their math homework, given that he had already gotten this month's assignments done. It wasn't exactly an unusual request except for the fact that she'd not wanted to do it at school but in his room. After they'd gotten done though she'd started to talk with him about comic books, which seemd so weird for a girl to like, but also about sciency things as well. She'd told him that she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up, so that she could help people...
And now, of course, this. Gabriel stared into his father's eyes as he pleaded for understanding, but his father just ruffled his hair a little bit. "I'm not worried, I know that Gabriel is a perfect gentleman like I raised him to be. Next time, Gabriel, don't sneak her in, but have her come meet your mother and I first. And no closed doors from now on, okay?"
"Yes Mr. Daniels, we understand!" Jennifer said with a cheery smile as Gabriel numbly nodded.
"And make sure your mother doesn't catch you sneaking her out..." Gabriel's father said with a hidden smile as he turned. Gabriel caught it though and was confused by it. If anything his father seemed... proud of him. He blinked a little as he caught his father muttering under his breath: "It's about time..."
Gabriel often caught little things like that which he didn't tell anyone about.
As soon as he was gone, Jennifer hopped off of the bed. "I should go before we get in trouble. Thanks for inviting me over..." she said, and Gabriel tried not to wince, knowing the magic of the moment was over. But before he could open his mouth to speak, the girl leaned over quickly and planted a kiss on his lips. It was awkward and weird, and Gabriel blinked, not knowing how to respond to it. Jennifer though seemed to smile a little though as she pulled away, her cheeks coloring.
"Can I come over tomorrow?" she asked, as Gabriel's jaw dropped a little.
