Helena Wells-Quinzel is H.G. Wells ([info]indelibleink) wrote in [info]makebelievelog,
It was no doubt a fact that Helena was taking this ring shopping far too seriously. She knew Myka wouldn't answer based on the ring, but Helena had a picture in her mind of how the ring should look and how the proposal would go, and she would not abide for anything less than what she pictured. Though on the flip side of that, Helena was entirely nervous about the entire situation. So really, the teasing was welcome as it helped to pull her away from her inner monologue over things as they went.

"It is much like a riddle, is it not? Shiny but not shiny," she teased back with a smile at Claudia before leading the way to the next stop. "I know she won't answer based on the ring. Unless I purchase an incredibly expensive ring, then she probably would say no. But I am not going to that extreme." The rings she was looking at were typically running in the neighborhood of $3,000, which was perfectly reasonable. Brushing a hand through her hair, she drew in a breath and let it out slowly.

"You know, I never envisioned myself as the marrying type. Though I suppose things change when you meet the right person." She glanced at Claudia. "Though it most certainly helps that Myka is female. Had I fallen for a man, I would not even consider marriage." She had very specific reasons for that given to her, marriage to a man meant the man held all the power and control in the relationship, and Helena refused to be controlled by anyone in such a way. She was not going to subservient to anyone and expected to be so.
