WHO: Peter Petrelli and Darcy Lewis
WHERE: The Lobby of the Castle
WHAT: Randomly meeting and talking
WHEN: Saturday evening
WARNINGS: Low/none (will update if necessary)

Peter was sprawled out in one of the chairs in the lobby, staring at the high ceiling, his face blank and expressionless. He'd awakened to find that Lucy had been sent home by whatever powers ran this horrible place. It figured, he supposed. It always seemed that when he let himself get close to someone, something horrible would happen to rip them away. It was the way his life seemed to work. But anymore, when something shitty happened, he just felt...dead. It didn't hurt like it used to, and that scared him. Was he becoming immune to it? Had he suffered so much that it no longer surprised him? Or had he simply given in to the fact that nothing was ever going to work out; that somehow no matter how he tried to do good, it would somehow backfire in his face?

He sighed, putting his hands behind his head. Why couldn't it have sent him home? He didn't want to be in this place that kept doing strange things to people, and where nightmares seemed more real than waking, half the time. He wanted to be back in New York where he could blend in and disappear and enjoy the anonymity of living among twenty million people.

No...he wanted different than that. He wanted to fall asleep, wake up, and have it be two years ago, back in the Deveaux's loft, before the world had gone crazy, before he'd lost his faith in humanity, in the world, in God himself. He wanted that outlook back. He wanted to be the person he'd been, the person who'd seen hope in everything. The person who believed in the goodness of people, against all odds.

He wanted to forget Sylar and Nathan and Simone's death, and losing Caitlin, and Adam Monroe, and the fact his father was alive - or not - he wanted to forget killing his own father, or losing his abilities; the only thing that had ever made him feel special. He wanted to forget being rounded up like dogs and running for his life. He wanted to forget everything and just start over.

But the world didn't work that way.

So for the moment, he just lay on the chair, lethargic, lacking any sort of energy or motivation. If the world was going to keep throwing curve balls at him, let it. He'd just lay here and take it, until it broke him. If it hadn't already.

"My boss actually hit a guy with her car twice back home. I tased him once. I wouldn't advise it though. I think it hurt." Darcy remarked back entirely serious, despite the fact it had been a dark joke on the random guy's part. "But he deserved the tasing. Kind of."

"And oh. That sucks. Do you want to talk about it, or do you want to be left alone? I know there's the 'sulk' phase and there's the 'Ben & Jerry's' sort of phase and talking during the 'sulk' phase of things doesn't appeal as much." Darcy admitted with a shrug, though she knew that not everyone was a Ben & Jerry's fan. Still, she thought that it was a good coping method.

"Wow, so you've got...practice," Peter said darkly, but couldn't help but roll his eyes a little. "I think I'll pass for now. On the tasing, too."

He shrugged a bit at her question of whether he wanted to talk. "I guess it doesn't really matter, does it? I mean, talking isn't going to bring her back. Nothing is, except sheer luck. I've talked a lot in my life, tried to make things better. None of it really works in the long run."

He looked at her for a long moment.

"I'm Peter."

"Probably good, since I don't have access to a car here anyhow." Darcy answered back with a small smile, not worried or deterred by the eye roll. She had a high tolerance level with such things.

"Talking won't make her come back, but it might make you feel better. Would she want you to feel like this?" Darcy asked honestly, her tone blunt as she asked the question. "It may sound like the biggest cliche ever, but that doesn't make it any less true."

She held her hand out to shake. "I'm Darcy."

Peter hesitated before taking her hand, just the briefest of moments. It wasn't out of rudeness - it was more because he didn't particularly want to lose his present power, and if she had one and he touched her - well. But it seemed in this place his powers weren't really working anyway, so with an internal shrug he took her hand and shook it firmly.

"Honestly, it's not all her. It's just...her leaving is just another big smack after what was going on back home. It's just another thing, you know? And I don't know if I'm upset, or angry, or just damned tired. Maybe all three."

Lucky for Peter, Darcy's only powers were sarcasm and being awesome. She tucked her hands into her jacket pocket after shaking his hand. After listening for a moment, she nodded.

"Damn tired sounds likely if it's been really bad? I know if there's too much, the brain can just go - numb. Sensory overload and all that?" Darcy let herself go with the flow and most things rolled off her back. Some things did bother her, but she was fairly thick skinned. "It sounds like you need to do something mind numbing to relax. Maybe a TV or a movie marathon?"
